Pro5nipe I would start out with a longer board at first cuz usin a short board to start out with is really difficult and will take a much longer time to learn..if I were u I would get a funboard which is between short and longboard and there pretty easy to use and are fun... It's not cheating, it's innovation. Waves in the 60-100ft range would never have been able to be ridden if it wasn't for Laird's tow-in innovation and straps.

I dont think he's the best.....There is no best when it comes to riding these monsters. Mike Parsons, Jeff Clark, Darryl Virtsko, KEn Collins, Gary Linden Dave Kalama, Ross Clarke Jones, Greg Noll Chuck Patterson , Twiggy, Peter Davi , Gmac and on and on and on all ride insane barrles and all have different styles. LAird is the man for sure but even he knows there is no "best" in that leage of heavy hitters.

@mkimmayer what i am saying is that asp surfers have way more skill. Just because Laird Hamilton can ride huge waves doesnt mean hes such a great surfer. Id like to see him try to paddle into pipe or teahupoo when its not to big to paddle. look at surfers like John John Florence and Alex Gray. They can surf huge waves and rip with shortboard tricks.

Sorry but Laird Hamilton is over-rated. He's great at riding big waves and thats it. He wouldn't stand a chance in an ASP World Tour contest for these reasons: 1. He's probably extremely rusty at paddling and popping up from so much towing in. 2. He can't do huge turns and airs like kelly slater, jordy smith, dane reynolds etc. I know this will get a lot of negative reviews but Im just saying the truth.
