That's Burke-Gilman. I longboard there pretty often. I think I've seen you heading back North. Not as good a pumper as you. Are some of your other vids shot at the Mountlake Park and ride?
@jexterrapanan - hopefully we'll connect on the burke. Haven't been to the ML park n ride, if you're thinking about parking lot video that's probably the Elks lodge in Lake City. i pump around there until they kick me out.
@723STONER - i LIKE the combination of flex and good responsive bushings, working together to snap you out of each turn. not saggy flex, its gotta have snap like a guitar string. flex fell out of favor in slalom half a decade ago, as the top racers moved to stiff park like decks, focusing more on the concave and kicktail, but in long distance skating some flex is not only good for popping energy out of pumps, but also cushy over tons of miles-- your body will thank you later!
Anyone know some good boards for LDP? I have a Gravity Hypercarve (which it awesome), but its very stiff, so I can't really pump as well as I can on my friend's, which is a Sector 9 of some sort (don't want a sector 9 though)
Nice vid, I have to cycle to school everyday, 14 kilometres to get there, 14 kilometres back. 28 kilometres a day. How long does it take for you to to longboard those 20 kilometres? Maybe i'll by one :D.
man i dont know what anyone else thinks but i used to ride a standard skateboard and i used to do this but lifting up the front wheels each carve (tick-tacking someone told me) this seems less effective... im about to get my first longboard, anyone got any views on if this carving can gain more speed, or is more efficient??
@gobacktorussia tick tacking is a good way to get up to pumping speed.its a higher gear then tic tacs .pumping is better then pushing when you get a good section of pavement.wear a helmet always when pumping animals can and will attack.
if you slip out even a tiny bit while commited to a pump you will probably be highsided and thrown landed hard enough with helmet on from one of these i had a minor concussion
i jsut ask because i get bennet in the front and a mission 1 (gullwing) in the back and im not sure if i shall buy the RTS if it's not important i wont spend 30€
It looks like a nice commute! I remember you showing some 'rough' spots that broke a king-pin once upon a time. Did they smooth that out or did you find an alternate route?
am i doing something wrong??i just got an apex 37 and when I'm going on a down a hill...i try and pump and i feel it getting faster but when i try pumping on flatland i just find myself slowing down quicker and i end up like turning the board in place please help :)
@xXSoiledTrousersXx get a bennett 5.0 wedged in front, and any stable truck dewedged in the back..mess around with your bushing setups and you should be able to pump in no time..if not then you suck at skating.
check out the pavedwave forum or "gear" page for lots of set up ideas. typically run a really loose (but snappy) front, and a much more snug back truck.
@Lidzz77 for me it is much easier and efficient to pump with more of your weight towards the front of the board... the more weight you can apply to the front truck, the more leverage, the more leverage the easier it is to turn
That rear Original has a lot of turn. If you could stiffen up the rear (harder spring?) and plant your foot farther back over that truck, you won't get the slides as much. Also the older non-Retro thane Gumballs slide a bit more, but it's a nice controlled slide, they're perfectly good wheels. You might "optimize" for pumping with BigZigs or Avilas. My setup is: L 39" WB 28.5"
I've tried moving my foot further back but then i feel my stance is too wide and the front too light. I think i'll order the medium spring and take it from there. In terms of wheels i was thinking about some o'tangs.
Any dry day. Pumping on wet surface is possible, but it sucks more energy and always risk sliding out. In the winter I hit the bike more, but rather be boarding!

i really can't get the hang of pumping.
i got the (cheapass) mindless hunter, with bushings adjusted to my weight (only 60kg)
and the mindless shifta wheels..
Been doing great on it, except for pumping..
got any tips?

why does he keep his back foot more towards the front of the board,, is it because its a long board or is it a personal preference?
Lidzz77 2 years ago
yep
lazerjet555 2 years ago
With longboards you can use the whole wheelbase, but some disciplines favour the front for good reasons.
The 'pumping' action of Long distance pumping is all about working the front truck, hence his forward stance.
Also, downhill skaters put a lot more weight on the front truck for stability at speed.
permaculturee 2 years ago
@Lidzz77 Uhh, because for pumping, it helps to have a closer stance like that (like shoulder width apart) But uh yeah, its also kinda preference.
OMGWTFITSTOMMY 1 year ago

what lenght is your deck and what wheels are you running?
I have a 45" Lush Makonga with Original s10 trucks and gumballs, whenever i do a hard pump the back end slides out.

In this vid, are you on a straight-away or are you going down hill?
op3rator531 2 years ago
first uphill, middle downhill, last part flat. it's gradual but totally noticeable on the board. bikers call the whole trail "flat" ;-)

how do you pump and carve..?? im a beginner...

when i do it i seem to lose speed? i got a sector nine waimea 39.5 complete. is that and alrite board?
Adam123112 2 years ago
Those tend to be bad at pumping. :( I recommend an Original Torpedo 40 :))
OneOnlyJCam 2 years ago
your not turning sharp enough, or your not doing it fast enough/hard enough
Try loosen up your trucks...get softer bushings...good conductive wheels are good too... like O-tangs, Zig's etc...

heya just wondering, how long does it take you to pump 13 miles? and yeh i totally agree with ya, pumping on a wet surface totally blows!
