LOVE the smile at 0:37, as if to say... Here we goooo... Man you're awesome, I bet you're jamming along with Brian Jones, Ronnie J. Dio, Jeff Buckley and all those cool people up there. Rest in peace
For those who are complimenting or asking questions of Zodiakironfist, the man passed away earlier this year. Luckily, we still have these badass videos to pay tribute to his skill, but sadly the man himself is no longer w/ us.
insane playing, i love coroner, i agree that no one of that era could match their accuracy, but as for speed, i say that Dark Angel was a faster thrash band. but speed isn't everything, i like coroner way better
Eargasm! That was excellent playing. I love Coroner, especially the stuff from the mental vortex album. They really were ahead of their time, really progressive stuff. You obviously had some fun doing this.
Don't play /pick/strike too hard when you want to be fast and accurate. I wish someone had told me earlier, I still often make this mistake (after 15 years!), especially when I have to sing.
Dude Five stars! I love how no matter what u play u always come up with ur own ideas for it and sometimes ur own way of playing it! which in my opinion even better then the originals!
Absolutely amazing! Love your approach man, sounds like semi-guitar bass playing. Have you ever tried to play Slauter Xstroyes material? I think you'll find it rather interesting! Cheers!
I've seen so many of your vids, I finally decided to go through them all in your originally posted order.I'd never heard of this group, but whoa... what a hot fuggin' song!! And you are up to your usual badass standards as you rip it up, thanks for posting these vids, I can't get enough of 'em.
I recently bought "No More Color" (having only ever listened to PfD) and was blown away by the opening track. Straight away I got on YouTube to see if there was a live performance of this song by Coroner (there was) and I also found this. Amazing. You've inspired a mid30s guy to pick up his old Jackson bass (with 10+ years of accumulated dust) and try his best recollection at playing Prowler.
OH MAN, you are awesomeeee. If only i could slow down the video to see the notes you are playing. I would love to learn this song, are you sure you don't have any tabs?
Amazing my friend. Would you try Absorbed and Masked Jackal my 2 favourite fast Coroner songs please. I would love to play Absorbed myself but trying to work out the notes by ear seemed impossible.
I can try, that is all I can say. I think I remember MAsked Jackal, but it has been a long time and I am not sure I had it right the first time. I also plan on Mistress of Deception as soon as I can clean up that scale from hell. Thanks for dropping by. \m/
No. I can barely read tabs and rarely-if-ever use them. I am a 100% ear player, which has its advantages (no need for tabs, etc.) and disadvantages (some notes might be...uh....not quite right).
Good job dude. I've seen your other video, Read My Scars, and also a good job. Ron Royce was really good, my fave bass player. It's good to see that today are people who remember CORONER as what they really were: the best thrash band!
do u listen to DEATH? theres alot of cool stuff on sound of persavearance but Ive only got bass tabs 4 the 1st 3 songs: Scavenger of human sorrow, bite the pain and Spirit Crusher!( And I cant play the whole of scavenger of human sorrow... yet!) If you have tabs for a moment of clarity or to forgive is to suffer that would be great.
You bet I listen to Death...ever since Scream Bloody Gore...Chuck is a poineer! I even have a guitar vid of me playing "Within the Mind", but like I said before....no tabs....just my ears and a lot of noodling. Still...you have great taste if you like these two bands...not as well-known, but well-known to the old school. Rock on!
By the way, a youtube buddy of mine from France (Marclecomte) plays Coroner and Death on guitar. Most can be transcribed to bass well...you should check out his vids.
yeah, check out the live version thats on here, you can clearly hear ron replicating the guitar riff. you still did a kick ass job tho, do you know where i can get this tab and your read my scars tab as well? Please! I would really appreciate it, and any other coroner bass tabs you might have.
I unfortunately do not use tabs...I am an ear transcriber. Sorry that Id on;t have any. The live version huh? I do not have the live version of this song....I still have my original CD from 1988 or so and it is all studio.
Hoooly shit man. I thought I did it okay by myself with my shitty ear but you've really nailed it here. Between the Ric, the tone and great ear I'm completely impressed! I'd like to see someone figure out "Arrogance in Uniform." Fucking tech as ever.
Wow...I appreciate the vote of confidence. And don't worry about a wrong note here and there...they come and go so quick in Coroner tunes, nobody notices.
You might want to check out marclecomte's videos (he plays guitar, though). He posted a comment on this video so you can click on his name there. He has the best Coroner ear of all and a butt-load of Coroner videos. Steal his licks (I am!)
"Even though their vocals left something to be desired"...ahhhh, you're just not into the deathy stuff, punk ;)
Nice for someone to finally pick up the BASS end of their stuff and post it on here, though! Very cool, especially since you couldn't hear a lot of bass on that cd!
I am quite into the deathy stuff, but Coroner's vocals were thin, under-mixed, and poorly-executed in comparison to their contemporaries (Death, Carcass, etc), especially on their second and third albums. When the music of Coroner is that great, the vocals look pretty crappy.
how could three people not like this, haha nailed it dude, well done

LOL...well, depends on what genre or technique. Your choice is excellet, of course (and he plays a Schecter from what I hear)
All-around bass player: Stanley Clarke
Slap player: Les Claypool
Thrash/metal: Stephan Fimmers (Necrophagist) for newer metal, Ron Royce for older metal
Pick Player: Dave Ellefson, Chris Squire
Rock bassist: Geddy Lee

Geezer played with a pick. Watch the old "Iron Man" video and Geez switches to a pick for the last segment. Just a fun fact.
As far as the pick/finger issue, that is a type of purism in which I have never engaged. Whatever gets the job done, and done well.
