The abstinence programs are supposed to give details about consequences about sex in general and the benefits that come with it. Protected sex is supposed to be covered extensively by basic sex education programs already in schools. Teaching about protected sex in an abstinence program is akin to give a BMW sales pitch while talking about Fords.

Only way we can find out if an education route is working at all is to try it. If it doesn't work then it should be scrapped.

Their research pointed out that abstinence based programs do work near the end of the article. It doesn't seem like unbiased work and it was probably funded by the church itself.

Everything has bias, even the Mathematica report. I would think twice before dismissing the research institute report on that basis alone. It does point out that the M..a report does not even consider the comp sex ed programs. That is a very serious flaw as it amount to the lack of a control - ie. unscientific and unreliable. I think the abstinence programs worked too well on you. I'm sure they should do (or already have) another study on sex ed stressing condoms. They should not include it with the abstinence based programs they should be separate studies, that's not bias at all.
