@fabio5a2 There is no lyrics. He's singing in "Hopelandic" which is a language the band made up, which is just as far as I know just singing that fits with the music, no lyrics. Thats why the albums untitled. You interpret the lyrics how you want, and the meaning of the songs how you want. I heard that even the album comes with a booklet full of blank pages for you to write what you want. Hope that helped.
this song is similar to the mona lisa in the sense that you can't decide whether its sad or happy ,you can't tell its just so breathtaking and unique.
I can picture myself on my last moments of life, listening to this tune while all the happy times of youth and meaningful experiences lived flash before my eyes.
This music captures the mood I would have if I was terribly sorry for something I have done to someone I loved. Forgive me Jennifer for all the fucked up SHAMAN walks I have brought u thru only to selfishly glean a deeper SPIRITUAL TRUTH.
This was the first music I heard from Sigur Rós. That was 3 years ago. This music was the begining of my discovery of Sigur Rós! By far the best band in the world.
This is the best song ever made. No one had or will be able to create such a perfect representation of emotion it self buried in the deepest corner of human capacity to make art, to give life through music, to take us all away from the ground for just an instant to get lost in beauty.
I'm so fucking sick of reading that this song is in vanilla sky. I try not to think that it was even in that flick. same goes with "everything in its right place".
i can finally listen to this song again :) my bf showed it to me and ever since, its was our song. We broke up a year ago and we dated for 4 years. but everytime i listen to this, it makes me want to be in love <3
Does Thom Yorke do vocals for this song, or is that someone else? I apologize in advance for my lack of Sigur Ròs knowledge. Just found them........ or have they found me... Either way, I'm very much liking what I'm hearing.
@metallicacdc hey that's unfair, thom yorke is good, just in a different way. i'm sure radiohead had a large influence on sigur ros when they started out
@domtoug Radiohead is the most overrated piece of shit in the past 20 years. I really don't understand why people would want to listen to that shit. If Radiohead has influenced Sigur Ros, awesome. Thankfully, I can't hear said influence in their music. Call it unfair, but I tried 6 or 7 albums by them and still can't see what makes them so "great." Sigur Ros is infinitely times better than Radiohead.
@metallicacdc you may not like radiohead's music but there's no arguing against the fact that they're the most influential band this century. Kid A and Amnesiac basically reinvented electronic sounds in music and led the way for many other bands who also shifted in an electronic direction, which i would say sigur ros partly did in ( ). i would add that Radiohead take a while to get into. I certainly didn't see what everyone was on about when i first listened to them, but they grew on me a lot.
@domtoug I've given pretty much their entire discography a listen, some albums multiple times (especially Kid A), and I still don't like them. They just have no appeal to me and it sounds like shit. And I don't exactly listen to bands influenced by Radiohead (excluding Sigur Ros, according to you), so I really couldn't care less if they're the most influential. They've got no impact on my genres of choice.
@domtoug See, but if it doesn't appeal to me, then to me, it's a shit band. As I said, I don't understand why people like them so much, which is obviously due to them not appealing to me. However, there are some bands that I don't like, but I can clearly see why people like them. But that's besides the point I suppose.
@metallicacdc It's half beside the point. What I'm really getting at is that you said "Radiohead is the most overrated piece of shit in the past 20 years". That's a definitive statement, not really an opinion, or at least that wasn't clear. To be honest though, I don't hold it against you at all. Each to his own right?
@domtoug They are the most overrated piece of shit in the past 20 years, in my opinion. I've given them a try, and I see nothing unique--so I'm giving an informed opinion. But, of course, to each his own.
@Mixarenan Hey, it wasn't my account to begin with. My brother made it, but I use it. Regardless, I'll give you a decent answer. @Mixarenan Oh, GYBE=Godspeed You Black Emperor, if you aren't familiar with them. Also, I don't think there's a way to view the playlist that this song is part of without finding the playlist first--but then again, I don't know all there is to know about Youtube.
@TheBoysdontcry96 I'm sorry that you are mesmerized by the shithole that is Radiohead. Don't bother replying, as I'm not going to explain myself again. G'day, sir.
@metallicacdc The fact that Radiohead is my all-time favorite band has nothing to do with me calling you an idiot. You have just said some things on here that could qualify you as being shortbus material.
@TheBoysdontcry96 Ah, so it has nothing to do with what I've said about Radiohead. I'd say that warrants a reply because it seems like you might have something intelligent to say, though I highly doubt that. Let's hear it, good sir.
@metallicacdc ''See, but if it doesn't appeal to me, then to me, it's a shit band. As I said, I don't understand why people like them so much, which is obviously due to them not appealing to me. I Just Listened To This For The First Time & Cryed Repeatedly... I Feel Like Something Has Burned A Hole Into My Sole, Heart, & Mind. Flittering Feeling It Gave Me, A Brief Experience Which Will Remain With Me, For All Time.
@IBILacIKx : I have been listening to Njosnavelin every night for years. It was then joined by Glosoli and now Hljómalind.
Njosnavelin feels to me like one of the sadest songs ever. Very deep and emotional, much to do with loss or desire for something un-reachable or unexplainable.
Hljómalind is just build up madness, which goes great with the nuclear test videos that is on youtube.
Glosoli has superceeded Njosnavelin for me. It brings a tear to my eye everytime I listen to it (daily+)
@StevenRW ah, Glósóli, I can't go one day without listening it... Sigur Rós is not just a music band, the are one of those few if not the only ones that are able to get deep down to your emotions and really make you reflect on things you've done or will come to do. If you are able to do that with music, then you are a true musician.
I was listening to this song for the first time when I found out that a friend of mine died, he drowned... which kind of suits the music. Needless to say it will always hold a special place in my heart.
This is sort of weird, but I always think of my first crush and our time alone together when I listen to this song. But that was when I was like, 12, lol.
been listening to this band for ages.. since they were on the culture show.. the song and the band itself really does highlight Iceland as possibly the most peaceful country on earth..
I looked at the time on this vid. I had been watching for 4 minutes. When I looked again, it was 4:18. It felt like hours had passed. I was surprised that only 18 seconds had passed. I would love to be able to discribe this song, but no words in my vocabulary cover it. The closest I can get is 'haunting'.
Is it because you heard this song in Vanilla Sky, as to why your in tears, or just hearing it by itself? I feel a sadness listening to this, mixed with a weird sense of happiness, but sadness is the dominant feeling.
Its a remake of Abre Los Ojos (Open your eyes), a spanish movie by Amenabar. This one has Tom Cruise as the lead roll, and Penelope Cruz (who plays the EXACT same roll in Abre Los Ojos!). It's just a fantastic soundtrack to a fantastic movie. Good job to Amenabar for Abre Los Ojos, to Cameron Crowe for Vanilla Sky, and to Sigur Ros for this amazing song: Njosnavelin.
yeah... a guy trying to remember murders that he committed. its riddled with, well, riddles, and hints and clues. the whole movie is sort of a test, and the viewer has to decide "How much of this was a dream?"
Man, this is a heavy comment. And...totally! This music has burned into my mind and into my heart. I am marked by a distant, brief experience which remains in me, for all time...and that person that could be standing beside me right now but never will - as you put it so perfectly - sent me this song. For now my heart streches across oceans and miles and time.
~What a strange feeling, so fitting to this music...
@WhyYouJelly thank you! I have to say, of all the crap I've said on youtube...it kinda means a lot that this one is one that people understood....cheers!
@zeppage4 i always think about dear paople i ve lost forever when listening to their music, but the language they sing in is called hopelandic, so in the end there is always a smile on my face
This song makes me want to drive to the Hollywood hills, park my car, and stare at the city at 3am alone or with a significant other... :\...soo emotional.
i think sigur ros was completely right in leaving this album untitled... theres no possible way to describe the music and properly do it justice(at least thats the way i think about it)...in fact maybe all of their songs should be that way, because i've yet to hear a sigur ros song that i havent immediately fallen in love with
"Sol" (Our star - the sun) is 93 million miles away. "Proxima Centauri" our nearest star to our solar system is 25 million million miles away. "Sirius" our brightest star in the night sky is 53 miilion million miles away. "Andromeda" our nearest spiral galaxy to our own the milky way is 11 million million million miles away. The point I'm trying to make is, is when we gaze up at these objects they look so poignant from Earth, just like this song. It just show how small we really are.

It's just a fantastic soundtrack to a fantastic movie. Good job to Amenabar for Abre Los Ojos, to Cameron Crowe for Vanilla Sky, and to Sigur Ros for this amazing song: Njosnavelin.

its a crazy movie. watch it and you'll understand why thats the best i can give lol
JRDunassigned 2 years ago
Oh. Does it have a plot?
thecrusadingdebator 2 years ago
yeah... a guy trying to remember murders that he committed. its riddled with, well, riddles, and hints and clues. the whole movie is sort of a test, and the viewer has to decide "How much of this was a dream?"
JRDunassigned 2 years ago
Whoa. That actually sounds sounds like a good movie.

If I'm angry, I just listen to this song. It sooths my soul instantly.
Riot police should play this through loudspeakers to subdue rioters.

sigur90 3 years ago 3
i think sigur ros was completely right in leaving this album untitled... theres no possible way to describe the music and properly do it justice(at least thats the way i think about it)...in fact maybe all of their songs should be that way, because i've yet to hear a sigur ros song that i havent immediately fallen in love with
^_^

"Sol" (Our star - the sun) is 93 million miles away. "Proxima Centauri" our nearest star to our solar system is 25 million million miles away. "Sirius" our brightest star in the night sky is 53 miilion million miles away. "Andromeda" our nearest spiral galaxy to our own the milky way is 11 million million million miles away. The point I'm trying to make is, is when we gaze up at these objects they look so poignant from Earth, just like this song. It just show how small we really are.
