We need to invest in and beat China in technologies like Superconducting bus systems for mass transit. We need expansion of light rails and an effort to re-urbanize starting with improved and federalized education. Look into osmotic, geothermal, and local small scale solar power integrated in windows and rooftops. Specifically low turbulence wind turbines or aeroelastic flutter generators that can be installed small scale, locally, and with minimal impact on weather patterns and birds.

@phinny5608 It already exists in more than one form, whether any of them are commercially available or not yet I am not sure, but numerous working prototypes exist from many different companies and private ventures. Some are integrated in the glass, some are adhesive sheets and all were designed to be more cost effective than existing photovoltaic panels.

80%? Sorry, I just don't see this happening by 2035, I'd be thoroughly impressed with 50%. Currently only 30% of electricity is generated by 'clean' energy, that is including nuclear. I wish 80% was possible, I just know it is unrealistic. Also, ethanol is a ridiculous alternative so long as it is made by corn, it is just horribly inefficient. Either switch to alga or grasses or just skip it altogether and focus on pure EVs. Also lose the petroleum based fertilizers.

One really big thing that scares me is, what if Obama fails to be re-elected, and the presidency falls into the hands of some republican?? There needs to be more regulation on this process though since it basically has no regulation and the process is growing so rapidly. President Obama needs to tour NEPA, where hydraulic fracturing is booming, and see the pollution and FLAMMABLE WATER AND SICKENED PEOPLE near hydraulic fracturing wells before making further decisions on natural gas!
