  • Incredible song by the great Ofra! Peace from Morocco :)

  • It's שחרחורת ,not 'תרוחרחש'.. there is no such word in Hebrew.

  • @THECHOSEN1948 hey es obvio que le salió al revés, sé que a veces los computadores no se acostumbran a escribir como es, de derecha a Izquierda...

  • unique :)

They will remain in our minds, our hearts, our souls.

Esther Ofarim and her sweet voice is an exemple of what I'm talking about.

I love her and I always will.

  • @ArabJinn

    Sorry Sir,

But Ofrah Haza is not Arab,

    She is an Israeli Jewess,

    Born in Israel

And her Jewish parents came to Israel from Yemen

  • @Realyisraeli on the back of her album fifty gates of wisdom (forget title) she said that she was part of the "Operation Magic Carpet" which was done in 1958 . Israel went into Yemen and other Arab countries and rescued the Jewish people to bring them to Israel

  • @sabrinacle

    Sorry Ms.

But Ofrah Hazah’s parents had already immigrated to Israel from Yemen in 1944, before Ofrah was even born. Ofrah Hazah was born in Israel, on November 19, 1957.

    You can try

    Haza(dot)co(dot)il

    if you still disagree,

Hope I have been of some assistance!

  • @Realyisraeli Yes I see. I got a bit of another bio. She was amazing.

  • she is jiewish not arab and an israeli she sings in hebrew

  • @ArabJinn She is Jewish but her JEWISH family came to Israel from Yemen. This is her own words

  • POSITIVELY WONDERFUL!!! Her voice is just....... wow!

  • Ofra, quanta falta você faz!

  • Such beauty and neshamah !

  • Sua voz é tão límpida e a articulação das palavras são tão claras! Para aqueles que, assim como eu , estamos aprendendo Hebraico é fascinante.

  • What a shame her family forced her into a marriage that was ultimately going to kill her. Beautiful face, amazing voicee. Thank you for this post.

  • Listening to this sends chills down my spine... saw her perform live in 1976... such a shame, so talented, such a beautiful voice, gone from us much too soon!

  • Her voice is unbelievable! It is haunting and beautiful, like a moonlit desert night, beneath the shadows of the pyramids.

  • @MrTsotsi01 u watching too many movies dude:)

  • I miss Ofra Haza so much!

She would have stood against the Israeli government's war crimes in Gaza and sang those politicians into sense...

    PEACE

  • @Koeker No, she would have sang Gilad Shalit free from hammas and maybe some sense to the world why it is Hammas committing the crimes, against Israel and against Gazans

    PEACE

  • Totally awesome, what a voice. The arrangement is first class. I think she is just as good as Esther Ofarim singing this song. Utterly haunting.

  • Her best work. Lovely. Song of Solomon.

  • שכחתי איזה זמרת מעולה היא היתה

    איזה קול ממה מיה

  • simply brilliant!

  • I never got people who have crushes on iconic figures. now I do.

Im seriously in love with her.

  • I luv, the video, would have loved to have seen her perform in the 1970s.............................beautiful music, singing etc.

  • Veramente eya era la morenika la morena mas ermoza ke repoze en ganeden

  • R.I.P

  • A great and wonderful Ivrit/Hebrew/Israeli song and melody! It's to fall in love with ...

I know both versions, Esther Ofarim's and Ofra Haza's; I know both singers very well (acustically ;:-).

Though that's no competition here, I put all the both to my Favorites & Play list ...

I slightly prefer Esther Ofarim's version; but I can't really say why. I own, up from a longplay record, a clean and fine longer version which I want to upload here for you soon.

    Good-bye, and enjoy! (Dhibannour)

  • Ofra is the best!

  • עת הזמיר הגיע, וקולה של עופרה נשמע בארצנו...

    יהי זכרה ברוך.

  • A voice of an angle!

    WOW!

  • No time to hate!!!

  • Sure I ask about version of this song as Ofra sang.

  • Dear Active Fans of Ofra Haza,

I'm sorry to trouble you with my request but if possible, send me an above song in MP3 or other playable by PC format of audio-file.

I like this song very much, and I failed to find it in Internet.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • @TheAmorgen:

How can I send you files ... without knowing your eMail address? ... If you communicate it here on Youtube, I will send you two MP3-files (this song), 1 by Ofra Haza, 1 by Esther Ofarim. It is legal, because I bought them, and for you it is a gift. Alright? Ciao!

  • @Dhibannour Hi,

I am looking online to purchase this song Ofra's version but I cannot find it. Do you know which of her albums included this song?

  • @falconer79 just ask someone to copt it on a cd

  • Beautiful

  • This is one of my favorite songs by Ofra Haza. It's originally a Judeo-Spanish song called "Morenika". I like Ofra's version best.

  • This song is so beautiful :)

Ofra was one of the greatest singers of all times

  • מת על השיר הזה.

  • Why should you despise a whole group of people? *Noone* can help what they are born as ... do you not consider the individual? Anyways, I am wondering where I can buy this song as I can't find it on iTunes.

  • Miriam, the phrase "Arsim" refers to a cultural / mentality of someone, rather than to his ethnicity, and as LucyPerveieff mentioned, ARS can be also someone from russia (Although most are from the group of the arab-jews)

  • the phrase "Arse" refers to Ass (buttocks)

  • Wrong. The origin of the word is a "pimp" in arabic, although i love the comparison.

  • For the well hearers - the bassist has an error exactly on 2:33, late entry.

  • ♥♥ Beautiful Song ♥♥

  • ambassador indeed. I have found Ofra Haza.

  • hey i heard she is from yemen is that true

  • Born in Israel, parents are from Yemen.

  • zohar was the king, ofra the queen ... pity we lost such wonderful talents at such a young age ...

  • Zohar was a junky, how can a junky be a king?

I think it conflicts with the constitution ...

  • By your criteria alone, we'd lose the Beatles, Elvis and most of the great musicians of our time ...

That Zohar made terrible decisions in his personal life, no one can deny. But that shouldn't take away from the beautiful music he created.

  • No, they were cool junkies (And the Beatles were not junkies although they used a lot).

Zohar was the ARS-kind of junky, like all of those i have beneath my home, very non-cool.

  • 'ars kind'? I find that kind of talk really sad ... it sounds like Ben Gurion and his hatred for the 'arsim' that came from the Mizrach ...

Zohar was a misken ... Got involved with the wrong people. He was a great singer and broke down the barriers for Mizrachi music ... We may not have had Ofra and others without him.

  • Just to make things clear - I don't hate arsim, i despise them! like most of the people i know and i`m not a shame of it, i despise everything they represent without any relation to their ethnicity.

Regarding Zohar - no doubt the man deserves his respect (Although he is more a performer than creator like you wrote), and compared to the shitty Mizrachit music you hear today this guy is gold.

Yet, he is not a "king" for me, there are many Israeli gifted creators that come b4 him, in my opinion.

  • Arsim are a creation of the issues between Ashkenazim & Sfradim in the 1950s. It's very similar to African Americans in the US.

Zohar was the first 'proper' Mizrachi star. Galgalatz barely played any stuff until he came onto the scene. He made this 'stream' of music the most popular in Israel almost overnight. His music should be judged for his music, just like we don't judge Ofra for her horrible decision to marry that narkoman.

  • I used to think as Rony, but that was before I met the russim in Tel Aviv... arsim are like british gentlemen compared to them. Most of the russians I met are scum

"there are many Israeli gifted creators" Musicians? I don't agree.

  • LucyPerveieff, boy, if someone thought i am a racist (I'm not) you just took my crown.

    Gifted creators -

Idan Raichel - One of the most talented israeli creators ever.

    Mati Caspi - Genious.

Amir Benayoun - Great and unique music.

Ehud Banay, and many many more...

Zohar Argov - Great performer. NOT a creator.

  • No racism intended. Just pointing some known facts. The good russians probably stayed in Russia (and, as you can see, perveieff is not an Arab name... =]

"genius/great/unique". Not even close to that. And some of them are just awful.

  • Are you russian?

Who do you consider a gifted creator?

  • No, russian origin

You mean an israeli gifted creator? I really can't think of anyone.

  • Not israeli, anyone...

  • זמרת נדירה... איך היא הלכה לנו, יא אללה

  • can't stop listening to it. her voice is addicting

  • great OFRA !!!

  • מ-ד-ה-י-מ-ה!

  • I love this song so much. I tried to buy it on iTunes but it wasn't available. Sad--it is simply BEAUTIFUL!

  • Well, this is what Ofra publishing company should read, because it is a shame that her songs are hard to get, only some few minutes since she passed; (considering this sort of time; memorizing a super star of the Planet Earth)

  • How wonderful to hear these pleasent sounds of those chosen to guard Hashem's Torah.

  • i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee this song !!!!! beautifullllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • Is this available online anywhere?

I couldn't find Greatest Hits Vol 2 at itunes, but I did find a male version of this song, sung by Mike Mainieri on the album "An American Diary: The Dreamings" The 30 second sample sounded nothing like this, except for the words. :(

    I love this song!

  • i have the spanish version of this song. sing by Marlène Samoun (morenika).

  • can you send me ? please ?

  • глубокий голос. тронут.

  • OMG This song is amazing! I wish that Boaz Mauda sung some Ofra classics :)

  • The voice of Ofra Haza, and this song in particular, do vibrate the soul. Thanks for upload.

  • The lyrics of this song seem fairly similar to Song of Solomon.

  • Yes I noticed that to. I wonder if Song of Solomon was the inspiration to some of the lyrics.

  • I heard Ofra Haza sing this song on that tour of US Jewish communities. A Jewish friend had brought me to the concert. I didn't understand a word but the beauty of the song and the singer stayed with me all these years. When I looked up Ofra Haza online last year, I found she had become a star -- and then had died. I grieve for your loss. Her many recordings are a consolation, but "Shecharchoret" I could not find -- until now. Thank you for posting this lovely, lovely song.

  • this song is actually originally an armenian song translated into ladino and from there into hebrew. my guess is that it passed from nieghbor(hood) to neighbor(hood) in old with-in-the-walls jerusalem. I heard it played in the original armenian version around seven year ago in a jerusalem street festival by a ladino music expert, i think her name was Besty Klein.

  • I think your right. This song has some very Notsri sounding lyrics. ie, "son of the king, men of the sea." It's still a nice song.

  • Arienlaguiva,

This song is very very similar melody to those of Sefardi songs, as I was kistening to a collection of These. It menas that Sefardite tradition is related to armenian?

  • I don't think Sephardic culture is related to armenian culture. Maybe Sephardic jews adopted the song when some of them lived in Armenia??

  • Where can I find the armenian or ladino versions?? :)

  • I love jewish songs and that is the best :-)

    Shalom!

  • thanks for sharing this and for including the lyrics and the english translation! beautiful song!

  • Kaddish for Ofra Haza!

  • Beautiful song!!

  • Yes!

  • One of the most amazing Jewish songs ever! Ofra's singing here is just unbeatable!!!! Yes, there was one, and she is gone.

  • That is AWESOME.

I wanna cry when i listen to her beautiful voice.

  • the song has a ladino influence and also ladino words to it. theres at least 5-6 versions of it more or less instrumental

    see הברירה הטבעית

  • What beautiful.

    Ofra haza is the best.

  • what son?

oh, the one who has found buried near Jerusalm?! with all his flattened bones in a 1X1 meter box? that one you mean?!

dude, he's allready revealed himself. nothing happened.

  • amazing words:)

  • Great,thanks alot !!!!!!

  • i would asked for words of this song on hebrew latin form if its possible.

    Toda:))

  • what a wonderful song! wonderful woman..

  • "There are stars whose radiance is visible on earth though they have long been extinct. There are people whose brilliance continues to light the world though they are no longer among the living. These lights are particularly bright when the night is dark. They light the way for mankind."

-- thank you for posting this song to touch our hearts and souls

  • How old are te lyrics to this song?

  • Ani ohev et a shir!

  • very nice song GREAT LYRICS thanks to OFRA HAZA for dedicating this song to all

  • OFRA HAZA - YOU HAVE BEAUTIFUL VOICE AND YOU DEDICATE THIS TALENTS by singing about YESHUA

  • Yeah. that would make a lot of sense. Singing about a false prophet. "messianics" are disingenuous x-ians pretending to be something they're not so that they can trick real Jews like Ofra into their cult.

Ofra was a yemenite Chazanit of the first class. You're not fit to watch her videos.

  • Ofra Haza was Jewish. Keep Jesus out of here...

  • see jesus is also a jew and he is yeshua which is known to the whole world none other than jews.

  • I know Yeshua and I have great respect to his philosophy and personality- he was definitely a great man. He never intended to found a new religion. Your attempt to attract Israeli people to believe he is the messiah amuses me. We were prosecuted for not believing this for 2000 years... Now we have a country of our own, and you can keep your christian beliefs to yourself without bothering us "sinners" anymore...

  • Yes!..he was a Jew - and he wants the Jews to stay the way they are... "Jewish"!! there is absolutely NOTHING he has to offer, which Judaism doesn't/didn't have...

  • A very young Ofra

    good song

great photo documentation, artistic as usual ;):)

  • This is a beautiful song, and being a big fan of Ofra this is the 1st time I've heard this song.....this is like getting new Ofra! Thanks for posting!

  • this song very nice, she is great singer, forever queen shabat

  • you don't died never queen shabath

  • Can anyone tell me what album this is on?

  • you can find it on her Greatest Hits Vol.2

  • The most beautiful voice in music history!

  • I agree with everyone here but most especially with you, my friend swedgoy.

  • Thank you, Andrew, for the kind words. They are appreciated.

  • you are absolutely correct, but there is a reason for this: ofra haza was no ordinary human being. Ofra Haza was, rather, an angel sent by G-d to Earth, to bring us some joy amidst all of life's many sorrows. but her soul was pained by our corrupt world, and so she returned to sing for G-d in Heaven

  • nakedBison,

I think there's a lot of truth in your conclusion. Like I've said somewhere else about Ofra: 'I think she was sent down to us mortal souls straight from HaShem, to bring us consolation.'

She was endowed with a gigantic spiritual gift which I think also derived from a good upbringing despite rather meager material circumstances. I think her family was warm and loving and I think her adherence to her religion played a part in her divinity, too.

  • there is no doubt whatsoever that what you are saying is true. The Yemenite Jews who make up the ancestry of Ofra Haza are probably THE most traditional of all Jews. But even if one did not know anything about Ofra Haza's past, one can simply listen to her music and hear how deeply spiritual she is. That is why I have long maintained that she is not really singing at all in the popular sense of the term; she is, rather, crying out to G-d in holy prayer. And now G-d sadly took her away from us

  • Really!!!

    Its True!!

  • almost like Esther Ofarim's version.

    But I prefer Esther ones.

  • the best version belong to ofra.
