The "beaten" clock cartoon at the end of the opening was a colorized version of the cartoon opening of the ABC version in the latter years of Bud Collyer's original "Beat the Clock." Incidentrally, the Ritz Theater, where both the original "Beat the Clock" and "The Price is Right" breathed their last on ABC, very much alive as Broadway's Walter Kerr Theater. THe Hudson Theater, birthplace of "Price" and "The Tonight Show" is now part of the Millenium Hotel in Times Square.
Taped September 4, 1979. Not that much different from what aired, really, except for a supposed "format hole" that was patched prior to taping #2 and #3 the following day.
Could anybody explain what the supposed "hole" was?
I remember watching an episode of the "All-Stars" version a few months ago on GSN. The celebs included Ellen Travolta (John's sister) and Louis Nye. I also remember seeing the audience divided into 3 color groups. My friend and I couldn't figure out how the prize money was going to be divvied up: ie, a $1000 for each member or $1000 for the whole group?
How's this for irony? Jack Narz was the original Mayor (host) of Heatter-Quigley's "Video Village" in New York City. When he left the show to move back to Los Angeles, Monty Hall became the new Mayor. (Even more ironic was that two weeks after Mayor Hall was "elected", Heatter-Quigley packed their bags for Hollywood, taking "Video Village", town crier Kenny Williams and Mayor Hall with them. They set up shop at CBS Television City, where this version of "Beat the Clock" was produced.)
I loved the animated part at end of the opening. It came from the last years of the ABC daytime run of the original "Beat the Clock" with Bud Collyer. Deja vu: Jack Narz hosted the 2nd BTC run; he was the original "mayor" of "Video Village" on CBS and was succeeded by none other than Monty Hall.

Jack Narz did a great rhyme:
Blow it, tow it.
Swing it, fling it.
Grab it, nab it.
Snap it, tap it.
Hop it, pop it.
Smash it, mash it.

I thought it was good that Narz MC'ed this show. But I never did like that big 'clunk' of a clock. I prefered the Narz/Wood clocks the best.

Violence against clocks! :(

Thankfully GSN is now airing civilian episodes.

Man, that brunette is cute!

Of all the versions, this is the best version ever. Too bad the show was gone once the format was switched to all-stars with a "Tattletales" twist.
Rlotpir1972 3 years ago
The best? I think its horrible, with only 5 stunts per show.

It was 1000 divided between each member of the audiance.
secondchance1977 3 years ago
So $1000 for the ENTIRE audience and *not* for each member in the 3 color groups?
fivebearrugs 3 years ago
It was two color groups on Beat The Clock, red and green. You're thinking of Tattletales with the blue, yellow (banana), and red.
PsYcHoFaB 2 years ago
Ah, thanks :) Wow...$1000 for two color groups...
fivebearrugs 2 years ago
Well, whatever the red section had, the red section would divide that, and whatever the green section had, the green section would divide that.

and from what i herd, only one of the jack nars version exists today & only a handfull of monty hall episodes also exists.
robcas123 3 years ago
Actully, its vice versa. All of Hall versions exist, while few Narz Exist.
secondchance1977 3 years ago
Really? I thought all the Narz/Wood episodes exist; why else would GSN air 'em?
Hondo20132 3 years ago
I think noveltooner and robcas were referring to Video Village when they said only a handful of eps exist.

We used to watch and play this game at my babysitters when I was little. I always remember the theme song.

The microphone Monty Hall used is similar to the one he used on "Let's Make a Deal" before he hosted "Beat the Clock".

That music before the intro is the theme music to one of my local news stations: News Channel 3 in Memphis!
Cool intro!

I recall the version with Jack Narz, this must be the third remake, which has Jack Narz as emcee.
prausch65 4 years ago
Jack Narz was the associate producer of the All-New Beat the Clock, and also its announcer.
