This is more than just a transgender issue. It's a basic human rights issue. Even if you disagree with transgenderism, you do NOT have a right to use that to promote anti-trans violence. All of us, trans or otherwise, have a right to live our lives in peace. All those beautiful trans souls who are no longer with us -- just thinking about it is heartbreaking. God bless them all.
The indifference to these deaths by mainstream society is what truly sickens me. These are PEOPLE being murdered. Not characters in a fictional story. If the status quo wants to see them as people who "dress funny," that's fine. BUT they are still HUMAN BEINGS! So if the message is that we can go around killing anyone randomly 'cause they're different, then most of us better watch our backs. Everyone is "different." So who's next? People who wear glasses? How about those who are indifferent?
@unmeasuredinstances ...anything i can do to help end the brutality and indifference toward transpeople worldwide i'm going to do it or at least try my best...
true its sickening how someone can kill someone who is just being theirsevles i don't understand that they might not understand us but how can u kill people and feel good about urself its sick why is there so much hate in this world people who died like that i and many others will always think about them no matter what we have hearts not hate amen
@SuperChris2727 Thank you for your comments,,,,,I wish I could say this video, over a year old, was long outdated and had no relevance - but sadly it continues to reflect the reality of our world. The names on the list change yearly, testament - sadly - to the unchanging nature of hate.
@SuperChris2727 ...that's right, EVERYONE needs to get involved in stopping these heinous crimes against humanity, speak out LOUDER about the injustice, MAKE politicians take these acts of criminal malice more seriously, talk about it among ALL COMMUNITIES...the only way we make a significant impact and get the word out is TOGETHER!
...the Trans Community worldwide needs to step up and keep these issues alive and band TOGETHER to stop all of the ignorant portrayals regarding Transpeople! NOW!
This may or may not be true (most likely it isn't despite my experience). BUT I (because of one thing that occurred when I was a child) I live in fear of leaving my house/neighborhood everyday of my life because of the city I live in (where it is possible to just walk down the street and get stabbed), That and I've had a knife held to my neck before. Keep in mind this happened before I came out... WHICH I haven't really not to absolutely everyone I know at least...
and yet I've decided I'm still going to go through with it with or without their consent. Which I'm thinking may not be good, though when you live in a family with a bunch of people who have at least spent SOME time in prison (Father included) it's kind of hard to want to accept their consent even if they're the only people who can protect you from the truly bad things in the world. My issues with outside people are going to double when I get the hormone therapy (I know that for a fact).
Also I don't know if it comes naturally with my situation but I just know as seen as I get the hormone therapy. It's possible that I may go totally agoraphobic because people will not like what they see (however I think that my fear'll go away once my appearance changes). Anyway I'm very sorry if wasted anyone's time it's just I don't live in a safe city and I'm really paranoid.
@MSM3NT4LL I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply, but just wanted to send you my care and hope that things go well. Our paths are never easy but hopefully, in the end, despite the hardships, we find the strength and the support we need to make it through. All my love sweetheart....Sarah
That is bethany26tg....definitely NOT a victim, in the sense of being killed, but she was assaulted and beaten up badly, so in many ways is part of those victims of violence we remember in general. You can find her on her channel if you care to follow up in some way.
Great video. People don't understand that transgenders are regular people who have families. Rest in peace to all the victims who were taken from us too soon. The murders just don't affect the whole family of the victim but thier friends and the LGBT community.
thank you for your beautiful video... i hope people through out the world stop and think before harming any one else.. Rest in peace to all those who have died through a hate crime...
I'm not arguing that you are who you are... this is obvious. However, I don't see why we have to dedicate days for the sake of promoting a cause. If I were hit by a car I think it would be retarded if people starte celebrating a white man's remembrance day.
Nope. Also, I didn't open my mouth, I typed this. If I happened to died I would roll in my grace knowing that others were exploiting my death for the sake of their own causes for their own personal agenda. Police do this shit all the time when fellow officers are killed..
i apoligise for my mistake.. could uplaease show a little most compasion before typing..

I don't understand the idea of a day of rememberance. I believe a day of rememberance should be reserved for those who do something extrodinary like storm the beaches of Normandy to their deaths. These are people who just happen to be killed and wear the wrong kind of underwear. Or if we do have a day of rememberance it should be for everyone who's ever died.
These people died, usually in violently and vicious ways, because someone hated them enough for simply being themselves in this world...not for some mighty cause, or even petty robbery, but purely out of hatred for being a certain way.
These people were members of 'our' family.... and like any family we take some time out to visit a grave, to say a prayer, to remember. I hope you can respect that and let us morn our own.
No matter how old I get or how much I grow and learn I won't ever understand how or why people are so cruel to other human beings. Doesnt matter what we are or our sex because we are all human beings. WE share that! What is unbelievable to me is that some human beings are abused or even killed because of who they are, there is NOTHING more sad than that. A lifetime of pain for those left behind to carry with them always. God Bless their families and loved ones.
It's simple, humans are put on this earth to destroy. Doesn't matter how its done or who its done to. The creation/evolution of human beings just lead to a disturbance in the balance of nature. While many humans applaud their own intellect, and see themselves as superior to all other forms of nature; it's easy to forget that the very nature that's destroyed is what they rely on *even for intellect* (^_^). Despite having a big brain, humans still do very stupid things, with very little logic (^-^
To continue humans then use certain illogical excuses.. such as "Gods will" as a reason to enact these illogical thoughts. Simply put, people do stupid things for stupid reasons. Either for law, for money, or just to get away from what they are afraid of/uncertain about. It doesn't matter the case; cause as civilized any human being wants to try to insinuate they are, there is still savagery that taints their necrotic mind. Being driven by love and hate isn't a really healthy lifestyle~ (>_>
I think you are right about people doing things to other people out of fear or the unknown. Thats really a very sad comentary on ther human being but a very true one for sure. I believe over the years humans have become more humane but its just not moving along fast enough. Thankyou for your reply! Gail
I love that line as well....and there were so many amazing teachers that gave their time and voices to this project. I felt honored to work with them.
Making the compilation was easy...the true thanks goes to those that lent their voices and their faces to this day. But I know what you mean - so thank you as well.
I don't understand the human condition that allows someone to kill another human being because of who that person is! Though this is a GREAT video, it saddens me that this is done each year. May the list get shorter and may people's minds become more open. And please, please, please....STOP THE HATE!
It saddens me as well....there was no joy in making this video, for truly, how can one ever enjoy needing to honor those who have died so senselessly at the hands of hate. Thank you for sharing your heart and passion and voice.
Thank you Danae....the videos that were submitted were so incredible by themselves, which made it all the easier to bring them together into this one piece. And as I said elsewhere, your own video - made separately from this project - was amazing and powerful.
I have no words. You have (all) created such a moving piece and I am grateful for the love that you put into this video. This should be shown in schools, work place, etc. Love to you Jenn
Thank you Jenn...truly. And while it might not get shown as widely as we hope, it did amazingly well and for that I am grateful and hope it played whatever small part in honoring those that died.
I have to say, Sarah, that I have been stunned and amazed by how many of the blogs I read over the past two days have included your video in their TDOR post. Not a small part, by any means.
Great video Ashley,Sarah and everyone who added their thoughts.A sad day for all.One thing to remember is the more light that shines on us,the more people see we are just like them....human.
I'm a young black man so i can ALMOST feel your oain...i've never been beaten or stabbed(because I was black)but the prejudice the hate and the fear...I know well...what can we do to stop it..?
I wish I knew what we could do....but I do know, as your words show, that we all can share and know to some degree the pain of hatred and prejudice, and it is recognizing that commonality, that shared experience of the heart, that can bring us together with all our differences and make us one community.
Bethany, thank YOU so much for lending your voice and your story to this effort, and for the the love you always show. You have a special space in my heart.
So many this year, when will it stop? Why do they treat us like vermin, our lives to be snuffed out whenever they please because they can not handle their own insecurities?
Thank you Ashley and Sarah and everybody who contributed, it was beautifully done.
Amazaning and wonderfull clip we shall never forget those who hacve died just because they where true to themselves. Also good chooice of videos must have been hard choocing what videos to have because of the 10 minutes limit
All love from Jasmine and good job Ashley and Sarah
Jasmine - Thank you. And my apologies for not being able to also include your poem. As you point out, it was hard to compress and choose from all the submissions and stay under 10 minutes. In the end I tried getting in as many as I could...so I hope you understand. Our love in return, always.
The actions taken against our victims is far beyond any rationality.
I'm at a loss for words. I can only hope that things get better and that people learn to treat their fellow humans with dignity and respect, no matter what their differences.
Great video, some really touching stuff there. My only issue is that seems like mainly white people talking about a list of mostly people of color who we lost this year. Where's the diversity?
You are 100% spot on right....and all I can say is that the lack of diversity was accidental. We put out a general call for submissions and I worked with what was sent, but I immediately noticed the same discrepancy. All I can pledge is to start earlier and try harder next year to reach out to those parts of our community who's voices are too rarely heard. More needs to be done in that area, and even this video - for all its good intentions - fell far short in that regard. Thank you.
Charlotte, thank YOU so much for taking the time to make the video you did and lending your voice to our project. Editing can never substitute for content, so in the end it was your words - and those of the others - that allowed me to put this together. I am grateful to you all.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this project. It is truly moving. I mourn for my sisters and brothers who have been murdered because of who they are. I pledge to never cease in fighting the hate and bigotry that fuels these crimes.
It's so hard to believe that people are killed for who i am as well. And you and you.I choose to remember and i choose hope for a change. This video brings so much pain but for me it brings appreciation for who i am too.
Ashely and Sarah good job! This is an amazing video on that i plan to show to my students, it gets the message across but is still "user friendly" thank you.
I hope the presentation to your students went well - that this was somehow useful in getting the message across. Its a hard topic to approach with any sense of doing justice to it.
My students (high school special ed math) got it and were disgusted especially since i knew Patricia from Albuquerque. The students at this school however know what it's like to be the underdog.
I hope it does....although the magnitude of honoring those lives that were lost makes almost any gesture seem small in comparison. But we do what we can and pray somehow it helps.
You have all of my love and respect, and I wish I could offer that protection. But I can pledge my attention, and my acceptance. Perhaps I can even offer my preference. After all, a transgendered person may be the only type of person who knows how to look at both sides of a lifestyle with absolute love and respect. You are the true pioneers of equality, and you have my gratitude.
people are people and everyone is special and unique in their own way and i wish that one day this world would realise that. it's one of my greatest hopes that one day soon this hate will stop.
(((TheTransgenderCommunity&Family&Friends))) you're all so courageous. thanks for sharing this important video of all your voices, stories and experiences.

Transpeople are not given the opportunity to be them selves without fear of hatred or violence and even murder..
why do i say this?
I say this because daily we (not all, some) fear the acts of such violence which comes from those who are not educated surrounding this topic.....
Daily we watch our brothers and sisters suffer hatred and violence...
WE SIMPLY WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WE ARE ALSO HUMANS NOT ANIMALS.
EVERYONE who looses a loved one or someone they new needs to know someone else care

So many this year, when will it stop? Why do they treat us like vermin, our lives to be snuffed out whenever they please because they can not handle their own insecurities?
Thank you Ashley and Sarah and everybody who contributed, it was beautifully done.

Thank you Naomi. As to why? I have no idea, of course - only the sadness that sadly knits too many of our hearts together.

Thank you. Just thank you.

Amazaning and wonderfull clip we shall never forget those who hacve died just because they where true to themselves. Also good chooice of videos must have been hard choocing what videos to have because of the 10 minutes limit

Jasmine - Thank you. And my apologies for not being able to also include your poem. As you point out, it was hard to compress and choose from all the submissions and stay under 10 minutes. In the end I tried getting in as many as I could...so I hope you understand. Our love in return, always.

No problem I understand :).
All love to you from yours truly Jasmine :)

The actions taken against our victims is far beyond any rationality.
I'm at a loss for words. I can only hope that things get better and that people learn to treat their fellow humans with dignity and respect, no matter what their differences.
Thank you for posting this.

I join you in all those hopes. Thank you for watching and for your support.

Great video, some really touching stuff there. My only issue is that seems like mainly white people talking about a list of mostly people of color who we lost this year. Where's the diversity?
paigenext 3 years ago
You are 100% spot on right....and all I can say is that the lack of diversity was accidental. We put out a general call for submissions and I worked with what was sent, but I immediately noticed the same discrepancy. All I can pledge is to start earlier and try harder next year to reach out to those parts of our community who's voices are too rarely heard. More needs to be done in that area, and even this video - for all its good intentions - fell far short in that regard. Thank you.

Wow great editing! The video made me cry.

I join you fully in that pledge.

Ashely and Sarah good job! This is an amazing video on that i plan to show to my students, it gets the message across but is still "user friendly" thank you.
OwenAB83 3 years ago
I hope the presentation to your students went well - that this was somehow useful in getting the message across. Its a hard topic to approach with any sense of doing justice to it.
unmeasuredinstances 3 years ago
My students (high school special ed math) got it and were disgusted especially since i knew Patricia from Albuquerque. The students at this school however know what it's like to be the underdog.

Truly touching, Ashley and Sarah. Thank you and God bless you so much for your efforts.

Wonderful work, wonderful tribute, Sarah. This says everything it needs to say.
khyrismusic 3 years ago
I hope it does....although the magnitude of honoring those lives that were lost makes almost any gesture seem small in comparison. But we do what we can and pray somehow it helps.

You have all of my love and respect, and I wish I could offer that protection. But I can pledge my attention, and my acceptance. Perhaps I can even offer my preference. After all, a transgendered person may be the only type of person who knows how to look at both sides of a lifestyle with absolute love and respect. You are the true pioneers of equality, and you have my gratitude.

And you have my love and gratitude as well - as a friend, an ally, and simply a beautiful soul. Thank you Sama.

people are people and everyone is special and unique in their own way and i wish that one day this world would realise that. it's one of my greatest hopes that one day soon this hate will stop.
