The term demon is derived from the Greek word daimōn, which means a “supernatural being” or “spirit.” Though it has commonly been associated with an evil or malevolent spirit, the term originally meant a spiritual being that influenced a person’s character. An agathos daimōn (“good spirit”), for example, was benevolent in its relationship to men. The Greek philosopher Socrates, for example, spoke of his daimōn as a spirit that inspired him to seek and speak the truth. The term gradually was
asura, (Sanskrit: “divine”) Iranian ahura, in Hindu mythology, class of beings defined by their opposition to the devas or suras (gods). The term asura appears first in the Vedas, a collection of poems and hymns composed 1500–1200 bce, and refers to a human or divine leader. Its plural form gradually predominated and came to designate a class of beings opposed to the Vedic god
Later the asuras came to be understood as demons. This pattern was reversed in Iran, where ahura came to mean the supreme god and the daevas became demons. In Hindu mythology, the asuras and the devas together sought to obtain amrita (elixir of immortality) by churning the milky ocean. Although they had agreed to share the amrita, strife broke out over its possession, which led to a never-ending conflict.

Some nice videos here mentioning interesting stuff. Reminds me of the Assyrian born British archaeologist Hormuzd Rassam who discovered a lot of interesting ancient Assyrian/ Sumerian (most notable tablets of Epic Of Gilgamesh) stuff during mid 19th century, and lived in my home area of Brighton. Keep up the good work!

This is my version about Ashur. suroyo/suraya= athuroyo/athuraya= ashuroyo/ashuraya=ashuri= ashur= anshur/anshar. Anshar was son of Lahamu and lahmu son of Tiamat and Apsu. Anshar was the father of Anu. Anu was the father of Ea and Enlil. During the reign of Sargon II Assyrians started to identify Anshar with their Assur in order to let him star in their version of Enuma Elish. The god ashur gav his name to the city ashur after for whole assyria
Yes! You track the name since the Sumerian time. But let us see another Assyrian branch:
Ashur = Ahura. The Persian transcription of Ashur is Ahura. The Persian God Ahura Mazda (God Ashur) created 16 good lands. The sixt land is "Haroyo". The Assyrian transcription of this land is "Saroyo" or SUROYO.
"Can you tell where the land of "saroyo" is? please " It is difficult to answer. According some translations Land and River Haroi(o) are somewhere in west Pakistan. But this is nonsense I do not believe that it is the place - because Haroyo is about prehistorical times of the Creation. And contemporary lands of the Iranian people are not their oldest native land. The basic Persian ideas and older Assyrian are the same ....
In the post Vedic Sanskrit Asur means an evil God. Assur resemble the Hindu evil. Perhaps the kurdish author wants in this way to make Assyria and God Ashur becoming entirely evil . Or may be not - and your remark is right.
But in RIGVEDA - the oldest and most sacred Hindu scripture ASUR is not an evil.
Hindu Asura and Persian Ahura Mazda are rooted in Assiria. Bit it is another question.
Indeed there is. I suspect that guy is an assyrian/turk who wants to make the kurdish name filthy. The kurds have theur own history, and the assyrians their own. The kurds don't want others history, that's a thing made up by turks and assyrians for a reason to hate the kurds.
And, BTW, if kurds are gupsies, then what are assyrians, when they have no government?
