  • Busy road, someone flashed her out so she went probably didn't even see you. Yes, this is not great driving, but at the same time this is just one of those unavoidable human errors that happen to all of us once in a while, you just have to expect that the driver "might" pull out, that way when they do pull out it won't be such a shock and you'll already be prepared to avoid the accident. Anticipate anything, first rule of driving (and cycling).

  • Looks like she thought you stopped for her lol!!

  • biggest cry baby out.. i bet in high school you use to snitch on the other student for swearing.

  • Im a biker, and i would not put myself in this position. Its silly to undertake, oh and illegal if my mind serves me right.

  • I don't think you should be exposing the number plates on your videos

  • This is why I cycle on the pavement these days. EVERY time Ive been out on my bike in the last 20 odd years, the roads have been a place to die!

Too many cars on the roads, and too many illegal drivers due to the lax laws on immigrants driving licenses - I'm not racist, just stating a fact. Pakistani taxi drivers i.e 90% of taxis have drivers that have had about 3 driving lessons at most before getting a license

  • Why the fuck are all those people parked on the pavement when there is no driveway up there? Cant this country afford slopes on the sides of their roads, can they only afford gutters?

  • Being blunt, the MINI driver was in the wrong, crossing a pavement with no dropped kerb is an offence, I know this.... A swift, well aimed boot into the door mirror might have alerted them to your presence.

  • It was your fault in some small part, the driver in the ford ka was giving way to the BMW mini. If you had noticed that then you would have given way too.

As a cyclist I am constantly aware of other drivers intentions, and what one car driver does, I do too.

  • Why are people confused here? Bicycle was filtering legally (it's the normal riding position), in clear view of a car who did not have right of way.

Cyclist probably should have preempted better since his life was on the line, but the driver made a serious error, end of story.

  • "If the is an idiot here its the person thats undertaking here while being oblivious to what is going on on the road."

Wrong - the mini driver is joining the carriageway without checking whether it is safe to do so.

  • @growingvegetable undertaking? for a cyclist to avoid undertaking the cars must first stop overtaking- or should the cyclists stop alongside the cars as they slow even though theres space to keep going forward?

  • What a prat, no acknowledgment of your presence what so ever.

  • Of course you can undertake on a bike, now don't get me wrong, in most circumstances I'd see nothing wrong with what the cyclist is doing here, IF he/she bothered to read the road.

Obviously we cannot see if there was a flashing of lights or a waving of hands here and as you point out, this practise is not the prescribed in the highwaycode, however, in this instance it is plainly obvious what is going on on the road ahead.

  • wanker you cant fuking put peoples number plates on screen ok dickhead

  • There is two points you seem oblivious to here, first she wasn't parked on the pavement, she was parked on the private parking areas outside the shops on this part of Roundhay Road.

Second, the Ford Ka was letting the Mini out. If the is an idiot here its the person thats undertaking here while being oblivious to what is going on on the road.

Not a care in the world indeed.

  • I agree about your first point, but the second one is wrong. There is plenty of scope in the Highway Code for cyclists filtering (you cant undertake on a bicycle) on the left and drivers are still required to check it is safe to pull out. Driver gave the responsibility to the Ka owner.

  • i dnt no how u can keep yur cool with assholes like these

  • In my opinion (please, no militant bikers need reply), bikers need to be aware of when a car is giving way to another, in cases such as this. Read the road.

  • So how can you tell? ...the headlights flashing trick doesnt work from this angle and it was unclear until the cyclist drew level with the Ka.

Infact it says in the Highway Code NOT to flash others out.

  • your not meant to show or print peoples number plates you tosser .

  • @matty1234cantcount

    Nonsense.

Show me the proof (data protection act doesnt count btw as that is designated to companies and individuals collecting private data - the plates are in the public domain)

  • As a biker, I recommend a flashing white light on the front to get their attention. Cagers not seeing bikes (motorbikes or pedal bikes) is an epidemic.

  • the black ford Ka was obviously letting the mini out

  • No, you're wrong I'm afraid. There is provision in the Highway Code for "undertaking", more specifically called "filtering", for cyclists. There is also provision that drivers should a) not flash out other road users and b) those that do decide to make a move for this reason have an obligation to check for oncoming traffic (even filtering cyclists) and failure to do so could amount to with out due care and attention.

  • typical BMW driver

  • If she pulled out on me, I would have cycled right into the side of her.

  • LOL, did you know that Harehills (as on the video) is on the top 5 most dangerous places to drive in the UK? I didn't think that Roundhay Road was bad, Harehills Lane is an absolute nightmare!!

  • @fnslr308

1 not true - provision is made in the Highway Code with guidence for both cyclists and drivers

2 not true, he was obviously riding to the conditions as he was able to stop

3 this charge does not exist for cyclists, just motorists

    4 a moot point

5 nothing pious, I think you mean "spuriously" ;-)

4 and 5 could be tackled under this video being used for a) education, b) vlogging and c) making entertainment out of someone's easily avoided mistake - all of which is fair game imo

  • I'm a cyclist

    and a motorist

    and a pedestrian

Get the Oxford English and look up pious, no not wikipedia boy

  • Pious decends from "piety" as in religeous devotion. And I took it from the online version of the Oxford not Wiki.

Being a cyclist, motorist and pedestrian has no relevence when you're mistaken.

  • What has her sex life got to do with this??? Fuckwit!!

  • if you overtook cars like everybody else that wouldnt have happened

  • here here

  • That is absolutely disgusting.

  • Embarrassing too especially if you get a good mugshot lol

  • I like the idea of putting the offenders registration no. in your title then there's a good chance it will eventually be seen when they google the number. Just make sure you leave a gap! Very nice.

  • somthing to consider .. filter down the outside... although not a miles better by any stretch but you are far likely to be unseen and probably more so, ignored..i as a driver am far more likely to see you in the off side mirror, and would much rather all cyclist did this than choosing at will.. it was obvious from the start of this vid that there was a chance that the car would pull out so why not swap to the outside, and carry on passing trouble free...

  • Agree about filtering on the outside, which is always safer. On this road, for the previous 3/4 mile, I filter down the middle of the very slow moving traffic. About 200 yards after this spot I need to turn left, hence moving to the inside.

  • @leedscyclist filtering is not the issue, the cyclist was forming another lane plain and simple. Road users are advised to give cyclists 6 feet of space when overtaking.. That same distance should be given to other road users by cyclists. Give as you expect to recieve or pay the price.

  • No it's not illegal to filter through traffic on the left, you're a typical ignorant fucker thats not fit to be on the road.

  • your not the only one to have done that

  • I like your other videos though :D

  • Cheers!

  • If i was driving the Mini, and I got flashed out by a car to get on to a busy road you don't have a hope of getting on to without being let out, and I saw you bearing down on me, i'd let you go past, but i'd think you were a dick.

She was in the wrong, no doubt - but would it have killed you to let her out?

  • I let many cars pull out - this wasn't an example of should I let her go or not - she wasn't even looking. She was coming out whether I was going two miles an hour or twenty.

  • I think thats just the mentality of some people. There are numpties everywhere.

I regularly let buses out but question why when the rarely let me out or don't even acknowledge you let them out. Bad Apples in every bunch, you cannot just blame one group of people when there are good and bad bus drivers !

  • nice one

  • I c regularly cyclists who feel red lights do not apply to them&also squeeze through narrow gaps on the left as u did Do you know how offputting this is to a driver? While the driver you shame should have noticed you, every1 u passed on your way to that point will have had concerns they might catch u with their wing mirror or u might scratch our cars. lets face it youve no reg marks for us to claim against you if ya did.

If I had a camera attached to my dashboard I'd film how bad cyclists r

  • @cafecremelad : Drivers worries are supperficial though. Cyclists are generaly vunerable. I was knocked off my motorbike by a driver on his mobile, he left the scene before I could come around to getting any of his number plate. And there was a story of a cyclist in my area who was pushed off her bike by a passenger in a passing car. Car drivers don't have these sorts of physical worries, except maybe from over cars or larger vehicles. Though granted no cyclist has the right to ignore the law.

  • What has red lights got to do with this? Its irrelevant. Secondly if you're put off by filtering cyclists then thats not their fault, they are legally allowed to do so and should one actually collide then yes they are obliged to give you details incase you want to claim (and it seems everyone has a story related to this)

Lastly registration= red herring. Didnt help a guy I knew who was hit last year after he drove off.

As for cams, go for it! Some of us have a head start ;-)

  • I agree with this. Its very rare for cyclists to show curtesey to other road users. I've only twice had cyclists give way to let me pull out for bus stops. I've had cases where cars have stopped and flashed me out, only to have some ponce on a bike come haring round and pass me as I'm moving. What's wrong with cyclists easing off to help out others on the road

  • Comment removed

  • Read what I wrote again very carefully, nowhere does it say anything about all cyclists are ponces what it says is: "only to have some ponce" which does not in anway what so ever suggest that All cyclists are ponces, just some arrogant pig headed ones who don't read the road ahead of them! So in future please read things properly before you put your fingers to the keyboard!

  • I've waved people out many times, sometimes I see it better than me passing just for them to pass me again, but I can only do this if they are looking at me... the problem is half the time you don't ever get eye contact with the person pulling out... ie they don't see you.

Also I very often stop at Zebra crossings, only to be overtaken by cars on it, whilst someone is waiting to cross, there is many examples of this on youtube also.

I am more courteous to drivers who give me eye contact...

  • @mrgirder You have to show disapproval of such illegal driving or the perpetrator will repeat the same behaviour without thinking about it.

  • No denying that you have to anticipate people flashing dangerously other traffic to proceed, but that's a typical driver assumption, the cars aren't moving so nobody else can?

I think she saw the cyclist but went anyway in the assumption that he would yield - lucky she didn't get a cleat, or a wheel, into her paintwork!

I always end up passing people like this within a couple of hundred yards anyway - sigh.

  • Cleats + Paintwork = Justice

  • My bet is that the black Ford Ka flashed her out. Once she'd been 'given permission' to come out, she stopped looking for more hazards, and got on with the business of moving forward.

This is just one of the reasons why it's dangerous to go down the inside of a line of stationary traffic, and is usually better to go down the outside. If she'd hit you, I'd have to say that the blame would probably have gone 50:50.

    Take care out there!

  • I agree that it's safer to go down the outside, which I do for the previous 3/4 mile as the traffic is generally slow. However, just after this bit, I need to turn left so I tuck in to the left.

  • Oh for super padded gloves going through her rear window and her then explaining to the police why she pulled out without looking. ;-)

  • Brilliant :D

  • She did seem to be in her own little dream world.
