A vanguard actually charges in when he is at his lowest. Not only is it in synch with his high risk, high reward gameplay, it also recharges his shields. Your best defence is offence, especially with a shotgun!

This guy doesn't know why he's doing. You do NOT use shotguns on Shields. You use rapid fire weapons aka shuriken, locust, etc. that depletes the shield more quickly. For armor, your best options are fire based attacks aka incendiary ammo or incinerate.

interesting video, but theres still stuff they need to fix up. the biggest problem i have is the movement in general. the characters look unbelievably stiff while they're walking, they might as well be floating across the ground. the other problem is shield recharge times. although some may say this is a good thing, it seems like the shield recharges way too quickly, making me wonder, why not just spam roll when low on shield?
