It would be good to clarify that Irish Travellers are not Romany Gypsies. They are people who lost their land and homes during the years of oppression in Ireland by the English. They are Irish people.

I love horses but this horse took my breath away. I am in awe. My Granny was Irish and I lived like a gypsy so much of my life in one form or another. I often imagine living in the wooden caravan, snug and happy about it, with my jack russell.. To have such a horse making it all possible would make all the poetry of it come alive. I'm thrilled to see such a massive and muscular beast be so expressive and athletic. Whew!

I just wanted to say that i live in ireland and these beauties are everywhere. They were also bred by our Irish gypsies who now prefer to be called Travelers. They still have and breed these horses. If you want to get a real Irish breed gypsy horse from a gysy just come to Ireland. They are very cheep and very beautiful. The best dispositions, very gentle.

These are the most beautiful horses!! I cried tears because I always wanted a horse from the time I was old enough to know what a horse was. I was never allowed to have one in this life. I should have been born in another time and place. Perhaps in another life. It's so unfair that some people get to have beautiful animals like this. I'm sure they take them for granted. I would give anything to have one. I'm sad now.

I can see Sundance! :) Actually Gypsy Vanners, Gypsy Horses, Irish Cobs, Tinkers, Gypsy Ponies and coloured cobs are all different things :)

Vanners are purebreeds from England/Ireland, Horses are the American version of those horses and can get to 16.3hh+, Irish Cobs are unpure/unknown breeding, Cobs are the same, ponies are under 14hh and finer than cobs, Tinkers are full romany bred and alot stockier than the showy vanners.They all come from the same place but different breeding has gone on

I was reading about gypsy vanners the other day and it said that gypsy vanners with curly mane are not real gypsy vanners anyways they are beautiful horses my friend has one and she lets me ride them they are such a smooth ride

Characteristics Gypsy Vanner foundation stock included Clydesdales, Dale and Fell ponies and Shires. They display their Clydesdale and Shire influence with heavy feathering around their feet. Their manes and tails flow long and luxurious, with waves or even curls. Frequently spotted, Vanners' most common colors are the black and white piebald and brown and white or tri-colored skewbald, though they can have solid coats as well. The horses have gentle, willing personalities.
