How can it when the kernal is smaller and better built also services start when you need them. Saying Vista is Windows seven is BULL! Its been completely riped out and cleaned as well as fine tuned. It ain't Vista SP2 Like so many people claim!
I wish they had a "power user" button so it would switch the interface back to what XP looks like. I'm not a fan of no text in the taskbar or having to click through 4 sub windows to configure an ethernet adapter.
Im pretty sure they have a mode in Windows 7 thats called "xp mode", which switches the looks back to the old operating system. Im not entirely sure what it does though
You are on the right track. It just doesn't change the look. It IS windows xp. The windows XP mode is free windows xp you can use in a vertual machine built into Win 7. So in essence, you are getting 2 os. You need Win 7 professional though.
Why would it be a "power user" button? Power users would dive right into the new UI. You can have all the text on the taskbar you want. All buttons can display all text just the same as XP. It's all customizable. The UI is so ridiculously more well thought out than previous incarnations of windows it is, in my opinion, completely ignorant to stay with XP any further beyond the release of 7 other than running it on a single core PC to play 32 bit games that don't like to play with multicore
yup its like microsoft saw this vid and just made it a reality however no wmp? that is stupid to me its simple easy and poweful with its audio enchancements itunes = garbage and winamp please
UAC is much less annoying in 7, and the new window functions are nice(like dragging the window to the left or right causes them to take up exactly half the screen) and its a bit faster navigating windows and folders. unfortunately, frostwire and windows movie maker(the vista one) don't work. windows movie maker for 7 is useless, my god its annoying, BRING BACK THE VISTA ONE! it wasn't the best either, but at least it was usable. i have version 7077 x64.
I just want windows to use less resources. They should have a streamlined one for people who just want an os to run their programms on that is simple and functional to use because most of uss just want to run our work or run our games and have the os using a little of the resources rather than the bulk. I have 2gb ram which is adequate. xp runs ok, so why does vista need 500mb and 7 1gb?
Windows should release a small, open-source Linux alternative ....for free. Something that will run Linux and Windows apps natively would kill many linux distros and have a lot of people using it.
Free software with payed support and optional insurance would make them money, a ton of money. Advertising revenue would probably cover the initial costs, and all post-release income would be profit.
It would get them 'in' with the geek crowds again, I'll assume.
That is a non argument. The OS does not run 1gb all the time. Windows can and does get out of the way for any program that needs the resources. The requirement is simply for using the OS at decent performance with its preloading features.
That's why they made Black editions, which have many stuff build-in (pre-installed). From themes to programs to wallpapers. I had XP Black. It got a lot of drivers, programs (Antispyware, firefox...)
I love windows 7, I am blown away by the efficiency, cool features and the fact that it uses 50% less RAM than vista. When windows 7 is released for real, I can see computers coming down in price due to the lower requirement for hardware. FYI I got the beta version from microsoft legally and for free, you can do the same right now, in fact I advise anybody to do so because it's so refined at the moment, plus you would be really helping the production of windows 7. And hey, it's free.
hey just about every thing he said microsoft fixed(except the stupid things he said) the start menu has a cool aero look and when you like go to all programs or whatever it has a nice fade in fade out affect, paint is awesome now
windows 7 takes about 300 - 768 RAM but on idle it is 300 - 350 and mine went to like 700 the highest and i was crashing because back then i had a pre - beta even though it kinda uses little to much RAM it is faster tan xp and i have 768MB of RAM
He wants all the programs you need all included in the OS :)) He wants to buy Windows and not to buy something else... Dudes..put Nero 9, TuneUp 2009, Office 2007 in the OS, and he'll be happy :)):))
If 7 is really and improvement it will use a less powerful CPU and less RAM to achieve performance like windows vista does with more resources, if not windows 7 is like involution. EVOLUTION. so, is windows 7 going to run better in a computer which was design for vista? if not, there's no really improvement, like car engines are more efficient every year, consuming less gas with more power output, but Microsoft OS are taking more and more resources.
i got UAC turned off,the sidebar, don't really like the start menu, its crap, too small when you got lots of stuff, the search is good enough, but vista has memory leaks, huge dump files, this is what sucks for me =_= i have to find em again and make room =_= 35gb partition for vista and a few programs and its almost full, should have made it 50 cause it just sucks to keep maintaining windows, but when you do it works very well, and windows7 is said to beat xp its said that its faster than both
What I would really like implemented in windows 7 is better support for multiple screens. I want to span microsoft flight simulator x across miltiple screens. You can't do that in windows vista but you can in windows xp. Go figure.
you don't HAVE to buy songs, but when you do, you can only play them on the iPod, and not any other device...which means, for me, i have to burn my purchased music to a CD, then rip it with WMP as an MP3 just so I can play the music on my mp3 player. NOT cool. Just go to walmart and download music...you can play it on iTunes or WMP and put the music on ANY device. Simple.
I am running the new beta of it, send them the 30 thigs wish list, but they have done 12 of the 30 things on that wish list, but i have to say windows 7 sucks it is still to much like vista besides the new start bar...
noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. i love wmp, i use it all the time and have no problem with it. and itunes sucks. live search can be improved apon but it is very good for me the way it is, and multiple desktops on vista shouldnt be like on osx, it should be like compiz fusion. i like live messenger the way it is thank you very much, built in rar extraction would be a very nice feature because winrar isnt that good in my oppinion. it would be nicer if it were more like the built in zip exractor.
dude windows 7 going be the same as vista it only going to last 1 yr or 6 mounts and there just going to make another one just like back at the windows 2000 and me days and we all no that xp took over those shit os this wat i mean... thats piss me off about microsoft why cant they just make an os that works with out having to bring out like 20 os before they say that's it here the next gen windows omg microsoft fuking just make one os and be done with it.......
Why torture yourself with Windows Xp/Vista, let alone Windows 7 which is not even in beta stadium. I can only imagine all the annoying errors you will get and have to deal with.
I stick to Mac OS X and if that starts to stink like Windows does, I will move to my trusted Solaris.
Well i like WMP but i could not possibly adapt to the vista OS. I bought a laptop that came with vista and I changed it to xp, because vista was just to incompatible to many programs that I use. If windows 7 comes out with the same purpose has vista (make people buy better hardware) then im moving to linux because xp will be outdated. I never used linux but I can learn.
I did not insult you, you piece of shit. I used vista 1 year ago when I bought my laptop, and sometimes vista used to go blue screen because of nod32, that happened with me and lots of other people that I know. Vista sucks and you suck. bye bye
Explain something to me, I've only had blue screen of death once, and that's only because I was overclocking and lowered my vcore voltage to a point where the cpu can't handle windows anymore.
Am I just lucky? Or are you just stupid?
And by the way, nod32 works flawlessly for me, so once again, are you unlucky? Or just plain stupid?
MS is not a software company, they are a company that sells software. We may as well be sitting here waiting for Black and Decker to come out with their next os. Apple cares about making money and making exciting technology, whereas Microsoft only cares about making money.
Microsoft should limit what computers can actually use Windows 7, which would increase the overall performance.
When people compare Mac OSX to Windows Vista, they compare a new iMac to a four year old fossil of a PC that was bought for $500. That's just not a fair comparison.
maybe control Intel, AMD ATi, nVidia, to a limited number of product models. Since the release of quad core processors, remakes of every single one has been created, and so have several dual core processors, often at the same price but faster, have been introduced.
It gets out of control very quickly.
However, microsoft doesn't have this control and im unsure how they could convince hardware developers of this.
I think they should start all over again, get rid off all the crap no one uses, and get back to the basic UI features. And they should cut off the compadebility between the old versions of windows, so there will be no more viruses and stuff, so if a virus is made for windows 7, microsoft can release an update and stop it, so there will be no need for third party anti-spyware junk.
That he compares with OS/X, is because he's using OS/X...doh! Anyone who switches from application A to B will also whine about features and also the other way around. As for his list; it's dumb! He wants a smaller OS, but at the same time he wants existing applications to be expanded and new ones added. Also his list is very egocentric, I would rather like to see someone make a list that benefits most of us.
You need to do a reality check, there are no software companies that add more features and decreases the size, that's just wishful thinking. And to think that Microsoft doesn't optimize their code is pure nonsense, Vista is a good example, lots of code has been rewritten (TCPIP stack and parts of the kernel for example) fueled by the urge to have more security.
Optimizing code to make software smaller is foolish and wasting time and energy and to gain what? 500MB less user memory and 5GB less hard drive space? Developing an OS takes several years and during those years you see on the PC increased computer power, hard drive space and increased memory without paying a dime extra. Why should MS spend millions on reducing the memory use of the OS, when 16GB memory and 3TB hard drives are common 3 or 4 years from now? That's just foolish!
Microsoft is right by choosing a new direction (starting with Server 2008) by having a small kernel. This project called MinWin is able to run in less than 40MB memory. This in the long run will also lead to less independencies, which is the core problem of any OS. You're going to see the same with applications like Photoshop that have become more bloated with every version. Trust me, Microsoft is not the only one following this direction.
While it's true that Vista 64 can run 32 bit sofwtare, it's not true for all software and it also requieres 64 bit drivers. A lot of companies use older hardware, either in the office, warehouses or factory, that often doesn't have 32 bits drivers available. You can't shove 64 bit up people's ass, without ignoring the problems some users or companies might be facing. There is also not a huge need for 64 bit, mostly the graphic and video professionals will see the most benefit from 64 bit.
I would like to see Windows 7 64 bit edition have the old 16 and 32 bit Windows Application Support. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit and it's really annoying how I cant run the old Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 applications.
What?! Windows Media Player should be dropped?! That's one of Microsoft's Best applications! Along with Microsoft Office (even though it costs a guh-gillion dollars, even more than Vista itself, lol) and Windows Live Messenger. Microsoft actually makes good applications, it's just their Operating Systems that suck because they have to incorporate all that old Legacy Code from like Win95 and sometimes even older to ensure program compatibility. They don't have to do that with their apps though.
i dont want to be in thier shoes! Look at ur requirements. they are insane!
first at all,; you guys want a pc to be fast and nice ( i mean the design they started to work on in XP) plus virus free! BUT face it guys!design and virus free+fast dosent belong together and u CANT make a PC that looks nice and is fast plus virus free the main case is that DESIGN=VIRUS believe me, hackers LOVE vista! look at all thoose nice shapes on the desktop, lets put a trojan in there!
I never really got used to it... the thing that brought me into it was Compiz Fusion. I never really used it for anything except web browsing, listening to music, and other little tasks.
I never really got the full Linux experience, I guess. =/
1. build-in .iso burner 2. Sidebar go in and out on desktop 3. x64 only 4. Spaces 5. WMP 12 with MP4 6. duo boot so Mac os x 7. Less memory problem 8. build-in office 2009 9. Xbox 360 driver which you can play on the PC 10. GFW Market 11. WINDOWS 7: GAMER ED!!!
Actually haloatlantis, Microsoft said that windows seven would be the last version to ship in 32bit versions, so number 3 on your list could become reality sometime soon. I think the x64 movement is going along nicely, anyone notice how many computers with 64bit versions of Windows have been advertised lately? They're finally selling computers with like 6GB of RAM for less than $1,000. Of course, the monitor isn't included. >.>
And there's no way they'd include a Xbox 360 driver, sadly. =[

Drop WMP and just incorporate Zune software into the OS.
demosnipe1589 3 years ago
noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. i love wmp, i use it all the time and have no problem with it. and itunes sucks. live search can be improved apon but it is very good for me the way it is, and multiple desktops on vista shouldnt be like on osx, it should be like compiz fusion. i like live messenger the way it is thank you very much, built in rar extraction would be a very nice feature because winrar isnt that good in my oppinion. it would be nicer if it were more like the built in zip exractor.

dude windows 7 going be the same as vista it only going to last 1 yr or 6 mounts and there just going to make another one just like back at the windows 2000 and me days and we all no that xp took over those shit os this wat i mean... thats piss me off about microsoft why cant they just make an os that works with out having to bring out like 20 os before they say that's it here the next gen windows omg microsoft fuking just make one os and be done with it.......

um... nod32 works perfectly for me on Vista, both the 32bit AND the 64 bit version.
Thus one step towards proving that Vista's fault is with its users, not itself.

Well, some of the functions that he said is in the Windows 7 (I am sitting on a Windows 7 OS now)

Why torture yourself with Windows Xp/Vista, let alone Windows 7 which is not even in beta stadium. I can only imagine all the annoying errors you will get and have to deal with.
I stick to Mac OS X and if that starts to stink like Windows does, I will move to my trusted Solaris.

amen brother...this guy is just one of those people that like to kiss steve job's ass...i have no problem with wmp or vista for that matter
liljon619 3 years ago 2
Well i like WMP but i could not possibly adapt to the vista OS. I bought a laptop that came with vista and I changed it to xp, because vista was just to incompatible to many programs that I use. If windows 7 comes out with the same purpose has vista (make people buy better hardware) then im moving to linux because xp will be outdated. I never used linux but I can learn.
RestauranteChines 3 years ago
Name one program that supposedly is "incompatible" with Vista.
Markiash 3 years ago
Only one? Ok then, nod32
RestauranteChines 3 years ago
RestauranteChines, you are either incredibly stupid, or simply lying to badmouth a piece of software.
Which is it?
Markiash 3 years ago
I did not insult you, you piece of shit. I used vista 1 year ago when I bought my laptop, and sometimes vista used to go blue screen because of nod32, that happened with me and lots of other people that I know. Vista sucks and you suck. bye bye
RestauranteChines 3 years ago

BlueMoonPenguin 3 years ago 2
maybe control Intel, AMD ATi, nVidia, to a limited number of product models. Since the release of quad core processors, remakes of every single one has been created, and so have several dual core processors, often at the same price but faster, have been introduced.
It gets out of control very quickly.
However, microsoft doesn't have this control and im unsure how they could convince hardware developers of this.

lower system requirements? i mean, 1ghz is a little high, and 1 gig is crap when runing vista.
beter stability on the OS, like less glitches

I think they should start all over again, get rid off all the crap no one uses, and get back to the basic UI features. And they should cut off the compadebility between the old versions of windows, so there will be no more viruses and stuff, so if a virus is made for windows 7, microsoft can release an update and stop it, so there will be no need for third party anti-spyware junk.

But then no one's programs will work.

wow... sounds like your talking about windows xp (with added applications) forget the new stuff theres a saying -- if its not broke dont fix it!
JaMangler 3 years ago
That he compares with OS/X, is because he's using OS/X...doh! Anyone who switches from application A to B will also whine about features and also the other way around. As for his list; it's dumb! He wants a smaller OS, but at the same time he wants existing applications to be expanded and new ones added. Also his list is very egocentric, I would rather like to see someone make a list that benefits most of us.

Windows has a lot of junk code, and old useless code.
So it is posibel to optimese it to take up less space, and still do the same, and in some cases do it faster.
So yes the poit in take up less space, and add more feauturs is posibel.
But MS has not in the past, and most likly wont in neer future use time and money to optimise there code.
As long as it compiles it's ok for them :-)
fisken42 3 years ago
You need to do a reality check, there are no software companies that add more features and decreases the size, that's just wishful thinking. And to think that Microsoft doesn't optimize their code is pure nonsense, Vista is a good example, lots of code has been rewritten (TCPIP stack and parts of the kernel for example) fueled by the urge to have more security.
y08y 3 years ago
Optimizing code to make software smaller is foolish and wasting time and energy and to gain what? 500MB less user memory and 5GB less hard drive space? Developing an OS takes several years and during those years you see on the PC increased computer power, hard drive space and increased memory without paying a dime extra. Why should MS spend millions on reducing the memory use of the OS, when 16GB memory and 3TB hard drives are common 3 or 4 years from now? That's just foolish!
y08y 3 years ago
Microsoft is right by choosing a new direction (starting with Server 2008) by having a small kernel. This project called MinWin is able to run in less than 40MB memory. This in the long run will also lead to less independencies, which is the core problem of any OS. You're going to see the same with applications like Photoshop that have become more bloated with every version. Trust me, Microsoft is not the only one following this direction.
y08y 3 years ago
Microsoft isn't going to use MinWin for Server 2008 OR Windows 7, Microsoft already confirmed this.
They are just going to improve on the code of Vista.
CLiDED 3 years ago
I read that windows 7 was only going to be in a 64bit version
Shrimp1997 3 years ago
Is there any compuret today that runs / can run Vista, that is not a 64bit CPU?
So why not just go pure 64bit, there is no 32bit CPU's out there that can run it anyway.
And you can run 32bit programs on a 64bit system, so not realy a problem
fisken42 3 years ago
While it's true that Vista 64 can run 32 bit sofwtare, it's not true for all software and it also requieres 64 bit drivers. A lot of companies use older hardware, either in the office, warehouses or factory, that often doesn't have 32 bits drivers available. You can't shove 64 bit up people's ass, without ignoring the problems some users or companies might be facing. There is also not a huge need for 64 bit, mostly the graphic and video professionals will see the most benefit from 64 bit.
y08y 3 years ago
You read wrong.

I would like to see Windows 7 64 bit edition have the old 16 and 32 bit Windows Application Support. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit and it's really annoying how I cant run the old Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 applications.
andymate2006 3 years ago
They don't have to do that with their apps though.

poor microsoft!
i dont want to be in thier shoes! Look at ur requirements. they are insane!
first at all,; you guys want a pc to be fast and nice ( i mean the design they started to work on in XP) plus virus free! BUT face it guys!design and virus free+fast dosent belong together and u CANT make a PC that looks nice and is fast plus virus free the main case is that DESIGN=VIRUS believe me, hackers LOVE vista! look at all thoose nice shapes on the desktop, lets put a trojan in there!

haloatlantis 3 years ago
Actually haloatlantis, Microsoft said that windows seven would be the last version to ship in 32bit versions, so number 3 on your list could become reality sometime soon. I think the x64 movement is going along nicely, anyone notice how many computers with 64bit versions of Windows have been advertised lately? They're finally selling computers with like 6GB of RAM for less than $1,000. Of course, the monitor isn't included. >.>
And there's no way they'd include a Xbox 360 driver, sadly. =[

4.Compatible with everything... like ever made
5.Able to run other operating systems off of it
6.New and PLZ better media player/center and IE and also make it more in sync with the actual OS and each other
7. ETC
