  • My kinda VALENTINE. No roses or chocolate needed. GIVE ME T.REX !

  • I love this song this song! I play it so loud that the awnings on the outside of my house literally start rattling!!!!

  • awesome

  • sonzeira

  • Aaah, Music Laden. Bin Laden must have been a young boy at the time

  • fuckin deep sound of that gibson , awesome, my god, how can man create such a big thing?

  • so these people died such a long time ago!

  • The best thing(s) about this is that it is live and very different from the LP cut, and if you like T-Rex / Bolan, you are hearing sounds you have never heard on this familiar tune off the LP. He is not everyone's cup of tea. In the US he did not have massive coverage on the ariwaves, but a few of us got it (at the time).

  • So glad Gloria is no where near the band on this or we would not have this core "Bolan Rock"

  • man...still miss this man and his music

  • Oooh Marc - man, I loved you to bits but your soloing stinks ...

  • remember, he always did several guitar parts on hie RECORDS, so to reproduce that sound was not possible.

  • who's the bassist ? looks like jaco

  • @rondaine1

Steve Currie who also died in a car accident in 1981

  • @dutchbolanfan thx man...saw unknown jaco back in florida later T Rex back in 74

  • @dutchbolanfan thx man :D...saw unknown jaco back in florida later T Rex back in 74 resemblances

  • This is awesome, it totally rocks!

  • This would have to be THE best capture of T.Rex live on film anytime, anywhere. Brilliant! Bolan rocks like no other artist........

  • Marc's guitar sound is just huge...... He always had great tone but this is just so massive. He's a very under-rated guitar player and could kick ass with the best of them.

  • What can you say?...T Rex was one of the toughest bands ever...full stop.

  • un fuckink real,I MUST PLAY IT AGAIN!

  • un fuckink real

  • Awesome. Bolan's live sets on TV in Europe and the US are far more superior than anything done in the UK.

  • love this song...and this version is so raw! - really cool

  • Oh my god!...this KILLS! I don't know where you found this, but thanks so much for sharing. Like every song Guns N Roses ever covered, the original is infinitely better. Love it.

  • Holy shit. I am blown away. This has always been my favorite T. Rex song, but I've never heard it this heavy. It's fucking amazing! And as a drummer/percussionist those bongos and that drumming literally has me shaking w/ adrenaline. This is so amazing.

  • Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeam! at 2.55 <3

  • Bolan is God

  • never tire of Marc xoxoxoxoxox

  • Out of this world

  • Marc最高w・・・^^

    シビレルw・・・^^

  • i always wonder why he could not produce this sound live for example on Born to Boogie, the guitar sounds so thin there....

  • the bangoes are being played as if it was a monkey on speed and Bolan is slaying a Giant green dragon trying to invade the noble village!

  • @sonicsteev

Wow ......do you get out much??

  • its got some heavy drive, never heard it like this.... freaking great

  • True musicianship isn't about virtuosity (although you must be technically good to a certain extent), it's about having your own unique style and being creative and original. Marc pretty much had all those qualities and then some. That's why he's one of my favorite musicians ever, because there absolutely no one like him. Great guitarist, songwriter, singer and performer. He deserved way more props as a rock n' roll icon.

  • gosh he is so fab and timeless I miss him very much

  • I saw Bolan live in 1975 and boy could he play the guitar. he played from his soul unlike most others who payed from their hearts. He was a real ROCK and ROLLER

  • This was just something special - I never heard a live perfonmance like this! Truly powerfull - electric guitar just as it should be! Live on!

  • There may be better guitar players (not too many, though!), but absolutely no one had the moves or the attitude like Bolan. There's nothing like it.

  • @mtopper66 so true......good comment.

The guy really rocked, something that's missing in the polished,

    processed world of rock today.

    You are truly missed Boley

  • sick, sick, sick, sick tone! what the hell head does he have sitting on that Orange cab?

@dutchbolanfan who the hell said Marc couldn't play guitar?!?! bitchslap them once for me will ya? ;)

  • @Plasticsoul His amp is an HH IC100 - made in England, it was a 100W transistor amp, which Marc used from 1971 until (i think) 1977.

  • @robinrobin1 wow really!?!?! that is one of the most badass solid state amps I have ever heard! I'm a bit of a tube (or valve for my Brit mates) snob. there are about 2 solid state amps that I have heard that sound decent. this H&H makes it 3! thanks for the info

  • is T REX in the rock and roll hall of fame? probably not, sinners......

  • Please STOP UPLOADING THIS STUFF! EVERY TIME I HEAR THESE GUYS THEY KICK MY ASS!

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!

  • played this like 5 times on repeat now....awesome!!!

  • MARC had a great sound coming out of those amplifiers,it's not always about technical ability,(which i feel Marc had also) it's about feel.raw rock and roll emotion.i love MARC for that.

  • Wow what a fantastic post!!! Don't know if I have ever heard 'Bolan' rocking so hard n heavy! Thx 4 sharing.

  • Outta sight

  • british rock super star ,yet still no brit award ,lets give the brit award to the pet shop boys instead ,F~~cking ell .

  • Raw, Powerful, Beautiful, Unexpected, T.Rex - no other band even comes close

  • @HISATdotCOM Yeah!!

  • His playing on Rabbit Fighter is excellent, he was good when he wanted to be.

  • Man - listen to that sound - an old Gibson LP goldtop, and an old Fender Precision bass - PERFECT!!

This version is excellent - thanks for posting - always one of my fav Marc Bolan tunes. What a friggin GROOVE!

  • Pretty damn awesome if I say so myself. This is often refered to as Zep Rex,and by listening to it you can understand why!!!

  • Just as we like to remember him!

  • f'kin aCe!

  • Truly awesome!!!

  • Marc Bolan was an amazing guitar player. Nobody plays like him.

  • @Alena367 "Hendrix didn't sing for one, he didn't write songs, and he wasn't that much of a showman".

Which planet have you been living on???

  • I must've seen the performance of 20th Century Boy from this Musikladen episode a million times, but didn't even realize they performed another song. On top of that, it's the only live clip of Buick McKane I'm aware of, too. And it's just 100% brilliance and a perfect example of Bolan at his absolute godly peak.

  • Unbelievably heavy -- I can't get enough of this version!!!!!!!

  • that was better guitar than Jimmy page

  • Just mind blowin and what a FANTASTIC performer!

    Delf n Kaz x

  • Holly Shit!

  • Bolan in the zone!!

  • I love the 70s, baby....

  • Bloody awesome!

    Delf n Kaz x

  • they are on fire!!!! long live t. rex and ,marc bolan!!!!

  • " With my Les Paul ... I know I'm small ... but I enjoy living anyway ! " DYNAMITE ! THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL ! Bolan had " flaming hands and bleeding fingers " thankyou for sharing this !

  • This version has a touch metal \m/

    Nice riff Marc, KILLER GROOVE

    RIP

    LONG LIVE TYRANNOSAURUS REX (T-REX) : )

  • What a performance...really mindblowing

Those were the days when you could listen to real rock'n roll bands not the wimpy crap bands of today

  • Marc can make a simple chord sound so wicked..

  • St Valentine's day, 1973. Marc Bolan, guitar/vocals. Bill Legend, drums. Steve Currie, bass. Mickey Finn, congas.

  • Pure and dirty energy, this is real rock!! Love les paul custom sound, great percussionist!! Rock on friends!

  • Hendrix didn't sing for one, he didn't write songs, and he wasn't that much of a showman. Why compare different profiles? "Marc's guitar skills weren't bad".. Who said that crap? You can't be everything in one: have perfect guitar technique, write incredible songs, sing with terrific voice and dress like no one else. But Bolan did have it all .. as for his guitar playing never heard anyone play with such a drive at least :))

  • @Alena367 yeah man, well said, marc bolan is one of the most complete artists ever...!! \m/

  • @Alena367 Hendrix did sing and write, and was a great performer as well. No need to bash him to make Marc look good, they both are great in their own ways.

  • @IAmPlaysWithSquirrel Yes, I know now that Hendrix did sing and write texts so I was a little mistaken, but still... what I meant was i don't understand how they ever can be compared. Because Marc was a poet and a messenger, and he was so different really that I just don't understand how... There are some other, closer artists, like Cat Stevens or Bowie that can bear drawing parallels, at least.

  • Marc's guitar skills weren't as bad as people said. He was still on a learning curve when he died. He really could kick some ass on the guitar.

  • @dutchbolanfan be honest - what makes you feel it more...when some flash player plays 3 millions notes per second? or when somebody like Bolan bends one perfect note over and over again for 2 bars? don't know about you but I will take the later.

  • But noone played with such a psychedelic vibration...how you don't understand that hendrix is one thing and bolan is completely another, can't be compared or mixed ;)

  • Hendrix also used alot of fx for much of his playing...not that that's a bad thing but its true.....Bolan was influenced by him and never claimed to be him. I prefer Bolan's playing anyday, Jimis often sounded messy and a splurge. Marc's playing was far more melodic.

  • A truly remarcable performance total class.

  • Of course, because Marc was a big Hendrix fan and tried to copy some of his style.

  • cool

  • zep rex gr8 you can hear some Hendrix In this as well right?

  • 32 years today Marc Bolan passed away.

    Missing you Marc every day.

I'll always keep you Marc in my heart.

  • he grooves alright

  • This one is for all those peeps who said that Marc couldn't rock and couldn't play guitar!

  • @dutchbolanfan Another reason I hate labels. "Glam rock" turns people off who shouldn't be. Maybe that was my problem.

This is one fascinating dude. His Tyrannosaurus rex period couldn't be further from this, and was just as cool in its own right. But rock? I've never heard a purer rocker than this.

  • @dutchbolanfan How did the load of rubbish get started.

  • I'm a fan of T-Rex n I have to say this song is AWESOME!!!! It totally kicks arse!!!! The guitar riffs are so cool, this sort of music is fantastic!!! This would have to be my top favourite T-Rex song!!!

  • Yeah baby! That's pure rock'n roll !

    Love it !!!!

    Thanks :)

  • The rest of the band is just as good. That's a kick-ass cool rhythm section.

  • I think this is my very favorite Bolan video ever -- the guitar tone is amazing -- remember how Marc said in a Melody Maker that "Buick Mackane" was intended to be "Zep Rex" -- astonishingly GOOD!!!

  • Simply AWESOME!! Why isn't this song better known? Few people in the US know this track--what a shame!

  • Rock On. Too Cool.

  • The best guitar Riff ever!!!

    Marc is a genius...

    or better...

    a guru of guitar!

  • OMFG!...never seen that version before....

  • Thanks for the groove Marc :-)

    Best Regards -Thomas

  • Wow!! T. Rex totally is rockin' it here! LOVE IT!!! Thanks dutchbolanfan!!!

  • it just BLOWS you away in my eyes no band could match that today, and that music is over thirty years old wow we lost so much when he died , but he gave us a lot when he was alive, he is forever my main man

  • Your right 100% ChromedToes the band sounds tight and screamin'. That lineup would have been so much fun to play the thunder stick with.

  • Marc was an excellent music, very smart and sensistive guy...I guess T. Rex deserved a better place in history rock for its music contribution. Kiss, Poison , Alice Cooper are babies if u compare music talent.

  • Marc was true talent and musical fanatic .r.i.p.

  • I don't know what happened with my video but there seems to be a loss of quality

  • Definitely sounds rockin' 1973 style! <3 it

  • Listen to that tone. It's a monster.

  • I have to agree with CT

    This is stunning.

The power in the music is stunning.

    Wonderfull upload.

    Lee

  • I'm surprised no one has commented on this contribution! Wish I had one half as good! This is particulary interesting as it is recorded (based on the date referred) a year to the month after (I can only wish.. to the day), that the two Empire concerts for the

    B2B movie were recorded.

The strength of the band is in buckets and gives a great insight as to how the band performed over that time.

Twentieth Century Boy was released the same month. The anti-Marc press in full throttle.
