  • The voice acting for Jeeves is killing me...lol. Subscribed. XD

  • I too love Roberta Williams (she looks lovely naked)

  • Back to this one, trying to get ideas on how to dub the characters :P Anyway, it seems that 3 people were not invited to a weekend in Mysty Acres :P

  • so many ways to die in this game. O_O

  • -OMG.....fuckn awesome. these laura bow sierra games bring me back... i luv this. THX

  • Thanks for putting this LP. It was on my list of games to play one day but never got around it. I also dislike text parsers, just don't have the patience to search try commands.

  • I LOVED this game as a kid! My fave sierra game ever (with Gold Rush being a close second).

  • I first saw that butler, I thought, "Oh yeah...he's evil..." You're voice for him kind of pushes that fact in my mind XD

  • aah I remember this game so much ..I was something like 11 years old. I want to play this again ! ..a lot of memories

  • Hey I just wanted to say THANK YOU for uploading this! Very much appreciated, it took me back to when I was 8 years old. :) Happy times playing this game!

  • This was a blast watching you play this game. Your narration is very entertaining, too. I used to love this game and always remember that line "the room looks comfortable but tired". I guess it's from replaying it so often. Loved these little mystery games. Miss Bow, we miss you!

  • I fucking love this game, and I fucking love your voice! A+

  • lol, 2:35 reminds me of Rocky Horror picture show, with the guy in the wheel chair kicking his leg while in drag at the end of the movie... :D (sorry all you RHPS buffs, I don't remember his name, just have a visual memory of him that coincides with this old guy in the wheel chair :)

  • Every time I try to play this game it crashes after about a minute so it is nice to have these videos available to watch. Thanks!

  • i really enjoyed your voice acting :P .... plus the old bastard just started a deathmatch for his millions

  • This chick sounds hot. Especially because she's playing an old Sierra game. Send me an e-mail, doll, I've got some floppy disks I'd like to load into your hard drive.

  • This is quite amazing. When I played this I decided to do it without a walkthrough like most people would. Your commentary and voices are great. I, of course, got the bad ending, but I enjoyed it all the way through! Thank you for this.

  • It is SO appropriate a woman is LP;ing this!!!

  • @HardWarUK Why? Because Laura's a woman?

  • @hercrabbiness Yes, of course, and because it was developed by a woman. Hope I didn't offend you Laura!

  • @HardWarUK Nah, I was just wondering if maybe you meant something else and I didn't pick up on it. :)

  • I remember playing this game with my grandpa. This came out in 89 I think, the year I was born. I've been playing it with him since I was able to understand what the hell it was, lol. It used to scare the crap out of me when I was little! This game is a classic and it brings back great memories. Thanks for uploading it :) I've shared it with a lot of my friends and family. My grandpa thought this was just wonderful, lol. Great job with the voices and perfected gameplay :)

  • I love how you point out the stereotypes of this game

  • It was lagging? When? o_O

  • Oh man! I remember playing this as a little kid on my 386 in the early 90s. It came on like 20 5.25 floppies. I wasn't able to beat it so I gave up on it. Then around 1997 I got the internet and found a walkthrough, and was able to beat it (cheating).

I also remember Police Quest and King's Quest 4. But I didn't have a soundblaster like you do, just the PC speaker. Good times, wish I still had that 386.

  • I played this game with a friend when I was a kid. This brought back a lot of memories. Thanks!

  • @TehEPICD00D The problem was with audio level settings, not my voice. The volume never gets this quiet in the remainder of my videos.

  • Is it me, or does Laura's dad give the impression of having been a spy, a stalker, a thief, or a detective?

  • Ah... I remember playing this at night with my brother and two sisters (I was 8 back then in 1990). We were actually quite terrified when the dead bodies started showing up all over the mansion... Those were the good old days... *sigh*

So you put up a LP video when you got bored, eh? You should get bored often, then, lol

  • @jeffshaught This is a Let's Play, not a walkthrough. If you don't like people talking over games, then don't watch Let's Plays.

  • 4 years old and already operating DOS because my bro hogged the NES.

    I loved these old games

  • another adventure game series i never played myself, so glad to see you have these up :)

  • You ever notice that you don't see a lot of guys named Jeeves working outside of the butlery field?

It's as if his fate is sealed as soon as his parents name him.

Just once I'd like to hear about an astronaut or a cage fighter or a Jedi named Jeeves

  • @SuperNinja147 I will now name my firstborn son, Jeeves.

    HE WILL BE SO SUCCESSFUL.

  • Feels like Mystery House, which was also a neet game they did.

  • As a matter of fact, this game is BASED on Mystery House, with more depth. Kind of like how that other game eventually formed into the King's Quest series...

  • Yeah, there preludes to those games.

  • Geez, you'd think for an old game it would lay off the list of suspects...but nope, there are plently of them. lol.

Still, it is better then being boring with only two or three suspects.

  • If this play does not include a horrible accident that isn't intended, I'll demand my money back!

  • Sorry to comment again, hope you don't mind, but I'm gonna look for the evil hat guy in all of these! When someone dies or in your Ways to Die video a shadow hat guy shows up. It is really creepy like the bad dude running behind the good guys when they aren't looking. Anyway thanks for the videos, I like how you read their speeches :)

  • Well, I don't have this game (it looks fun but I can bet you that I'd be incredibly jumpy throughout it if I did play it), but thanks for making these walkthrough videos. :) And especially the King's Quest ones. They're helpful (even if I can't play the games anymore) and fun to watch.

  • How come the HQ button doesn't work anymore?

  • I remember playing this game as a kid. Loved it ;)

  • This was good, and LB2 was good but I really, really, hated some of the King's Quest games. Too smug and twee, a lot of them were.

Apart from KQ6 - "Alexander feels a strange pulling sensation!"

It's all about Leisure Suit Larry and Quest for Glory :P

  • I liked most of the Kings Quest games. Mostly the ones revolving around Rosella. I liked her, lol.

  • Hard to believe that this game is from 1989!

  • I know, right? Isn't that awesome? It was such a great game back then, and it still rocks now!

  • "What would daddy do in a situation like this?"

    Daddy: DO A BARREL ROLL!

  • I can't believe I'm watching all over again but I adore this Let's Play !

  • You know, HC, I've watched this video before and I guess I never read the description before and didn't realize you used two computers, hehe. Did you use two computers to LP the entire Colonel's Bequest? That's some dedication :-)

  • Yep, I did! :P

  • This is excellent. I found this because of your work with Lateblt on Quest for Glory 4. You have a great voice for storytelling :)

Never played this game, but looking forward to being guided through it by you.

  • Just a little trivia--all the characters names are inspired by people who were famous in the '20's. Laura Bow, of course, is after Clara Bow. Gloria is after Gloria Swanson. Lillian is presumably after Lillian Gish. Rudy is possibly after Rudolph Valentino, etc.

I think the servants are just generic servant names, though.

  • Sierra must have loved New Orleans considering all the games taking place near there, there, or with characters from there.

  • Ha! Nice "modded" version of the game... hence why your 'Piracy Protection' is "always Celie." Not quite, actually.

When the protection is disabled, the question isn't removed... they just allow any answer. :)

    Hence... "Celie" always works.

  • Actually, every time I answer any other person, it won't let me play the game... it's strange.

  • I never beat this game. Of course, that's primarily because I didn't get into a lot of text adventures. I look forward to these. :D

  • Maybe because I'm not a guy..?

  • I got this game for my 11th birthday in 1990, I believe. Which makes me older than you, and LateBlt for that matter. I loved the hell out of it! I even tried to force my Mom to play it, because she loves murder mysteries... didn't take of course. Never does!

  • Hah, actually the first time I saw the Laura Bow games was when I was watching my mom play them... scared the crap out of me! XD

  • I'm diggin' the BGM

  • So, I subscribed to you a year ago because I was watching Zwobotjones do an LP of Laura Bow 2 and liked your comments... and now here I am enjoying a great LP of the original (which I've never played) by YOU! Good stuff. Plus, I Love Graphic Adventures!

  • Thank you for doing this. I remember playing this game when it came out. I miss classic Sierra Adventure games.

  • Its funny this is a game thats kind of like Clue and they have a Colonel Dijon..You know like Dijon Mustard..And clue has a Colonel Mustard...Maybe i read into it too much

  • The butler did it!

  • man when i was 5 this game scared me so bad

  • It still scares me now :9

  • Thank you,Ma'am! Ever since ZwobotJones left I've wanted to see another Laura Bow LP!

  • Excellent, thanks a bunch for this! One of the best adventure games ever made, no doubt, though perhaps too difficult (I never beat it until getting at least FIVE hints).

Fantastic runthrough, for a young whippersnapper. I remember when these things were coming out: Sierra was God.

  • You would be a great voice actress.

  • You are adorable, and a very good LPer.

Your comfort and talky nature is very well suited. You seem to feel comfy speaking and seem to enjoy when you are doing, making the whole experiance very pleasent *pats your head* i'mma shut up now as i'm analysing you and i hate people who do that.

  • Thanks for the memories! This was really fun to watch. I was 13 when this came out and I remember playing this and loving it.

  • Integrated male and female college in the 20's?

Good work on this Let's Play.

  • Sort of a follow-up to a previous comment... "If any of you should die before I go..." yeah, famous last words--aka, an invitation to commit murder. If only Henri kept his mouth shut!

  • 3 years old, Huh? At least your honest listening to some people do LP's you'd think they made the game. The pretenders really drive me crazy. Anyway the first Sierra game I ever played was Leisure Suit Larry 2. Ever since I've always loved Al Lowe's sense of humor and Sierra games. Roberta's games are always dry the characters are semi interesting. Thanks for making Colonel's Bequest come to life. I've never played it till yesterday. Trying to make it through without a walkthrough. Little tough.

  • "3 years old, Huh? At least your honest listening to some people do LP's you'd think they made the game. The pretenders really drive me crazy."

I'm not sure if I know what you mean, because I don't think I've seen any LPers who act like that. Either I haven't been paying attention, or I've been lucky enough not to run into any of them.

Playing this game for the first few times without a walkthrough is kind of tough (not to mention frustrating), so good luck!

  • Oh, just mainly the pretence that they do their LP under. Granted some could be 30 possibly 40 yearsold and did exist to play the game during childhood. That's kinda like me making a documentary about a classic car when I know nothing about either and don't plan to. When you lack experience it shows and when you over compensate for the lack it messes up the LP. It's annoying to watch. Your LP is great because you know the game and can have fun with it.

  • This game just screams of Scooby Doo. xD. I bet if someone edited some footage of this game and replaced it with some of Scooby Doo, Where are you?'s music and sound effects, it would fit in perfectly.

Anyway, you could speak up a bit. Though I'm one to talk, as I don't talk loud enough half of the time.

Otherwise, you're doing fantastic. Keep it up. *Goes to watch the rest*

  • The reason it's so quiet is because I don't have a microphone (I have to record using the computer's speakers and manually turn up the volume after the recording is done). The rest of the videos are louder because I turned the volume up, but unfortunately there's this horrible white noise-ish sound that comes with it too. *sigh*

Anyways, thank you for the compliment, and I'm glad you're watching. :)

  • But, how you can record through the computer's speakers AND record your voice at the same time? I can't get mine to do that.

  • It's because I'm using two computers to record. I use Vista for playing the game and recording the video, while I use my mac for recording sound. I think there's a way you can record both at once with the same computer, but I don't know how that works.

  • I love everyone's ruddy, red-faced complexions. It's SEXY!

Man, this game totally looks like it's going to rock so far. XD

  • Yay, you're here! :D

It's not nearly as fun as The Dagger of Amon Ra, in my opinion, but it's a silly little classic and I couldn't resist. And yes, the pinkish hue is *very* sexy. It especially goes well with Laura's SLIGHTLY darker red hair. Makes her head look like a red walnut or a tomato or something.

  • This is one of my favourite Sierra adventures. Some things that set this apart are the abundance of optional accomplishments and few item-centered puzzles it has. I'll be interested in seeing your final stats.

  • Yes, it is quite a unique game. There are a few things I find annoying about it, but overall it's in good fun even though it's such a challenge to complete all the way through. I'll do my best!

  • well, silly me, always referring to you as a guy :D should have known better

anyway, great start, I hope there'll be more to come!

  • The "her" in hercrabbiness didn't tip you off? XD Well, that's okay. The LP community seems to be 99% males (I only know of one female so far).

    Thanks! Stay tuned.

  • oh, there's some females on something awful :P but aren't we really all the same? (lousy excuse)

  • Ah right, something awful... I never go there, so I guess I wouldn't know.

  • You know what's odd is, I think the YouTube user ADVRipper4 started playing through this game, but then he stopped before reaching the end. (?) I have no idea why. I was tempted to do this one myself, but kudos to you for starting, it's an excellent choice. I always loved this game.

The reason your copy of the game always works if you just click "Celie" is because your copy has been helpfully "modified" by someone. ;)

  • Yeah, I noticed he started doing a playthrough of the game but he stopped early on. I think he did the same with Laura Bow II as well. It didn't look like he was going to continue anytime soon, so I figured why not..

    "Someone" meaning... you? :O

  • Hah, no, I wish... The modified version of the game is widely distributed online and has been for a while. I don't know who made it but they did a service to the entire gaming community.

  • may have been someone from sierra, since the game is abandonware and thus legally available for free

  • Could've been, but it seems a little weird to me that they'd only do it for THIS game and none of their others.

  • Oh, okay. XD Sorry, I thought you were somehow insinuating that you did it yourself.

Yeah, I'm glad they did that. Although it's not TOO difficult to figure out how to identify the fingerprints (as there are only so many characters), I'm glad I don't have to do it. It's a pain.

  • good ol' copy protection ^^
