is this the Gm performance parts 454ho that you can get from summit rated at 425hp and 500TQ? sounds great,, good motor if it is cause its all forged, and it makes that power with only a 8:75.1 comp ratio,, which means it can handle boost, nos,
@IRONSEAN7 Yes this is a Gm performance parts 454ho and yes it does have 425hp and 500tq and yes its 8.75:1 Compression, good for Boost, But i wouldnt put Nos on it, valves wouldnt hold up because they arent Stainless steel, And with this engine i'm putting out alittle more then the 425hp then Gm performance is saying,
You are right about the ss El caminos, BBC, My El camino is a rare Black Knight option ss.And not for sale, just jokeing around. scotts el camino 028 mpg.
@JCL404 if it has the v8 in it engine mounts you can run it! if your doing the 383 just drop it in you dont have to Mod anything unless your putting in a Big block chevy like i did, you have to get a differnt oil pan, and you have to knotch out the mount on the driver side on the engine so the header can pass it
@JCL404 no problem , and yes it will Close with a small air cleaner, if you get to big of one it will not close you will need to put a Cowl hood on it so it will clear
How much suspention work and chassie modifcation did you have to do to support a BB? I was considering dropping a 454 or 507 in my 85 el camino at one point in time.
I was undecided when i was considering the project, i didnt know if i was going stick a roots blower on or not so never got around to picking a transmission that could handle the torque and hp, that and decideing on a rear axle and drive i consider a 78-87 buick rear axle for that aspect (if i could find one in decent condition).
The Front end is stock suspenion, The rear isnt stock what so ever!
in the Rear i'm running 4 link, 9 inch ford with 35 spline axles,4 Piston cal. WishBone and coil over shocks!
I did it this way because i didnt wanta have any wheel hop! With small tire i would have really bad wheel hop and i would be stuck in the hole and the other person be gone and me left behind, I only seen a few el camino's my body stly that has been tubed but they dont sit as low as mine does
oh well yours seemed to have a bit more of a lope in the exhaust tone of your engine than mine did. i recently installed a edelbrock torquer plus cam and i have yet to hear it what it sounds like. this cam is pushing my vales to a 0.572 intake and 0.553 for the exhaust.
118cc chamber rectangular ports. 8.75:1 compression. the only thing keeping me from running the engine is a fan issue that im having. i only have a inch and a half between the radiator and long water pump. i ordered a half inch fan spacer and a low profile fan, so im keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it fits.
well you have the same thing as me as in heads and compression, But why didnt you just go with a Elec. Fan and dont put that Clutch fan back on, i'm running a Elec. Fan 2,070cfm of air and its a Puller. And are you running open headers?
i am running open headers right now, i have dual exhaust system on it but i have to fabricate some pipe to complete it. the thinnest electric fan i could find was 2 1/2 inches and the space between my water pump pulley and radiator is only 1 1/2 inches. i could go with a short water pump and gain a few more inches but then i would have to change all my brackets and stuff.
I dropped an old dodge flathead 6 into a 34 ford a while back and had the water pump shaft turn down for a flex fan and shimed it out. The blades sat about a 1/32of the belts I didnt have much room either.
Hey you can get one of them 454 Ho for around 5,400 just need to get some Ignition and a Carb, i got mine back in 2006 and i only payed 4,800 for it 5,100 with carb and Ignition
mmmm you got any pictures of this 65 Chevelle because they have big engine Bays, Because i bet my engine bay is smaller then that and i have about 2 to 3 inches of space between my Electric fan and my long water pump
yeah i have plenty of room on the sides but i have a short thick old school griffen and a long water pump. ill post a vid of it when its started and ill do a walk around.
you need a thiner Electric fan that moves alot of air mine be luck if its under a 1 inch and it pulls air tho the Gril 2,070cfm and it blows so hard i can be standing next to the drivers down and it blows my hair around
What tranny do you have behind it?

Stock Suspenion only thing you have to do is get headers for the bbc and Mod the driver side motor monte thats on the engine
and get a Differnt oil pan and it fits like a Glove!

Duration of the camshaft is a .211/.230 Hydraulic Roller, And if you had a 454 Ho in your 65 Chevelle you would know what Camshaft it have in it
