  • I clicked "play" before knowing this was from 1985. Mind blown a little. Also, cool stuff. Also, RIP Lou Dog.

  • I heard Lou Dog went to the moon as well. ;)

  • THIS IS GREAT! DO MORE LIKE THIS!

  • Camper van Xanax

  • this rules!

  • this reminds of my dog blackie back in the days

  • is this REM???

  • @chillout333222111 No it's Camper Van Beethoven. The group that did Take the Skinheads Bowling. Part of the group is now Cracker.

  • @jessesgirl10 David Lowery was the only CVB member in Cracker. CVB is back together now and even recording new material. Cracker is also touring (Cracker & CVB actually tour together) but are not writing new material.

  • @altroval ah, thank you for that information. I'll be looking forward to new CVB material.

  • From the days when alternative was actually alternative.

  • @maxathorn lol... agree "alternative" is just another genre like "pop" or "rock"

  • The Day Harold Camping went to the Moon (May 22, 2011)

  • Does the official release have yelling mixed in at the end? It doesn't sound too pleasant.... first time I noticed something like that in a camper song. P.S. the deffinition of camping is having a sleeping bag at the beach.

  • Fantastic!!

  • I love how we all have access to so much brilliant music. This being another example.

  • Lassie rocks. Watched a movie about here and know I adore her.

  • ah, the greatest american band of the 80s ... nice work, thanks!

  • @maddymud Thank you

  • @maddymud How many #1 hits did they have?

  • @HomleandSecurity You are funny! I'm sorry, let me stop my life right now to make sure you get your question of five hours ago answered.

Apparently, "No. 1 Hits" is your criteria for what makes a band, good or great. Well, instead of calling you a "fuck face," I'm going to say -- sure, that's a valid measuring stick. I think that particular path would qualify "Hall and Oates" as the greatest American band of the 80s ...

  • @HomleandSecurity .... and to continue, there are other ways to judge too -- critical acceptance, number of bands that claim they as an influence, numbers of times there songs are covered, put in movies, etc. Or -- this could just be my opinion as a fan. I believe the phrase "art is subjective" might apply too. OK, keep on fighting the good fight on Youtube comments section and hopefully you can change the world ...

  • @maddymud You wrote all that without answering my question. How many #1 hits did they have?

  • @HomleandSecurity -- actually, I think I did answer your question, giving you the benefit of being able to take a statement like "sure -- that's a valid measuring stick. I think that particular path would qualify "Hall and Oates" as the greatest American band of the 80s." I think that statement pretty much guarantees that I no Camper Van Beethoven did not do so well in the "No. 1 hit department." Would make you all tingly if I answered it exactly -- as in they were not a pop band ...

  • @HomleandSecurity ... but an "alt" band before Alt bands sold any records (Nirvana breaking the dam). Therefore they most assuredly did not have any No. 1 hits. Do you feel full and sated now?

  • @maddymud No, I was thinking they had 1 or 2 number 1 hits. Are you saying they had none?

  • @HomleandSecurity I am saying with absolute certainity they NEVER had a No. 1 hit. "Take the Skinheads Bowling" was not even a No. 1 College Radio hit. Top Ten Village Voice poll -- yes.

  • @maddymud So, you're saying this band is irrelevant. Zero #1 hits means zero talent.

  • @HomleandSecurity Oooooo -- you've reached your conclusion! You manuevered me into saying they had zero hits and then -- BOOM! Your sweeping generalization. Again, referring to my earlier statement -- they are many measures as to a band's success. You, have now decided to narrow the definition of success down to talent. So, under your definition -- The Velvet Underground has zero talent. The Pixies have zero talent. Only popular acceptance defines talent. Uh, okay ...

  • @maddymud All I did was ask an innocent question.

Your insecure, defensive reaction says a lot about you.

  • @HomleandSecurity no, all you did was say a band that I, and many others on this page like very much has "zero talent." Based on a criteria determined solely by you. I was actually nice and cordial most of the through the process. But you make a statement like that, and then call someone "defensive" when they react. Please. Zzzzzzz.

  • @maddymud You seem pretty obsessed with me, constantly replying and trying to tell me about the music you're into. Have you fallen in love with me that quickly? It's understandable, just a bit surprising. I tend to not rush into romantic relationships on the Internet, and you should be careful about that too.

  • @maddymud Fuckface, answer my question

  • Okay, so I was just informed the beer was called RED STRIPE beer not RED LABEL...whoops

  • I finally saw them live here in Seattle and though they didn't play this song it was awesome. While I was loving Camper and trying to finish that huge bottle of Red Label beer I think most people were there to see Cracker...LOL (Who the heck is Cracker, I had to ask)

  • @jessesgirl10 camper is so much better than cracker in a thousand ways...

  • @NEOMASOCHIST I agree.

  • Brilliant! I truly believe a dog can fly!

  • Brilliant! I truly believe a dog can fly!

  • I always wanted to know what happened to her, LASSIE COME HOME PLEASE.and please bring me some cheese from the man in the moon

  • this song has one of the greatest drum fills of all time

  • i like it.

  • aaaahhhhh

  • this is fucking awesome!!!

  • Really great work putting that together, nice effort!

  • I saw them i believe with Dead Kennedy's and Vomit Launch in Chico in 1983 or 84 Awesome!! Great vid!

  • Great job on the video!

  • great song...good job on the video

  • @feeeball thank you

  • JUst love them old college camper junkie. People from maryland dont understand !! You dont JIM RIGGS YOU FUCK !!!

  • lol great song.

  • i just heard this song on RRR FM in australia, so I quickly rushed to the computer to look it up... its great!

  • omg they sound like Cracker! jk jk :D

  • I love C V B. one of favourite bands of the 80"s

  • Yea, they rock.

  • thank you!I love C.V.B. Greetings from Italy

  • These guys are great, I can hear a little bit of there vibe echoed in Pavement I think.

  • Me too. When the music came on after the intro I instantly thought of Pavement.

  • oh shit, this is the one bradley covered after someone stole lou-dog, didnt know it was a cover until now this song is awesome!

  • Where is my 'Telephone Free Landslide Victory' cassette?! What box did I leave it in? Damn. One of my brothers must have it, so it must be either in Toronto or in Annapolis, Maryland. And I call myself a fan...

  • I love this song... What type of music is it and why can't I find it on Spotify?

  • What type? Fuckin' awesome!!

  • alt rock/college rock

  • HAHAHA F'n great video! Very Camper... Always loved this whole album , always will.

  • I saw the guys open for REM back in 85 or 86. 10 times better than REM.

  • i saw em open for the dead kenndys, i think it was their first sf show

  • Me too. Bought a tape at the show. And I was a POOR punk, so if I dropped a couple bucks on a tape, then they really made an impression.

  • I saw them open in '86 - - might've been the same tour.

I was still big into REM at the time. I had heard almost nothing by Camper at the time, and I was Blown Away. Within about six months I had most of CVB's albums and didn't listen to REM much after that.

  • @SickDog2008 Me too. It was my first REM show so I was a little star-struck, but I left the show and bought everything Camper had put out. I think that was the "Camper II & III" album tour. To this day I have more Camper on rotation on the iPod than REM.

  • does anyone know where i can find the tabs to this song? i know its not terribly hard but im lazy

  • One of my favorite Camper Van Beethoven songs ever. I'm glad you had the hot-air balloon shots.

"THAT WAS THE DAY THAT LASSIE WENT TO THE MOON!!!"

  • Yeah, well done! Never seen the crack-up video before.

  • Bradley from Sublime covered this when Louie Dog was stolen outside of a bar. Only it's called The Day Lou Dog went to the Moon.

  • I adore that version and I had no idea it was a Camper Van Beethoven song. Wow. That's awesome.

  • @ZoojerZ That's how I found out about Camper Van Beethoven

  • 80's psychedelia P, enjoy! :))

  • I've discovered great music from many different decades so I can't not like any decade. I grew up listening to alot of 50s, 60s and 70s music before hitting my teens.

I am having a hard time with some of the music now which seems very repetitive and non sensical like "Umbrella...ella...ella...ella...ah...ah"

  • Good work but I listening to 60's,70's too! And I don't like "Umbrella"

  • We have a new radio station that only plays 60s and 70s music. It also doesn't have commercials which is kind of strange, but I'm enjoying the music.

  • you need to listen to Gorillaz and Gnarls Barkley..let it grow on you and youll see we have amazing music nowadays...its just sad that mainstream isnt about selling good music anymore....instead it is only about selling...doesnt need to be good music just "sexy" people and the newest mobilephones in a videoclip

  • There are a lot mainstream bands right now that I think would be decent live. For me, the main thing is I can't get over how shitty and generic all CD are recorded to sound like... really cold, synthetic, and processed. When you listen to albums and songs from the 80's and early 90's, the recordings had just as much personality as the music. Personally, I think there is actually much more good music now than ever, but everything really forward thinking alienates more people than it mesmerizes.

  • Thx Jessiegirl. Great song- one of my favs.

  • That is very cool. It's a great video for that song.

  • Thank you!

  • i´ve been listening to brad´s version "lou dog went to the moon" for a long time, funny to finally listen to the original!

    thx for the upload

  • Very good video!!!! Keep em coming!!!

  • That looks my last dog. May he rest in peace June 2008.

  • That sucks, poor puppy

  • Sweet video! You are awesome at video editing!

  • Thank you.
