Can you tell me where you got the talking defect detector? I'd really like to have one of those for my N scale model railroad project. Thank you in advance.
Beautiful set up and filming! I run a paper modelsing group at yahoo. Called Paper_Models. The link is on my channel.
This isnt an ad but an invitation to the group. We have all scale train models FREE. If you dont want to build it in paper you could always use them as a pattern for building in wood etc.
Great video!!! Can you tell me more about the defect detector? Where can I find one at? will it actually count the axles on the train and sense things wrong?
I love your video!!! Where did you get the BN tiger strip engine??? I have a BNSF Geep which is really nothing to your engines though. Also how did you get all the sound effects?? that makes your video so like a real train. 100 out of 10 you rock.
Thanks for making me smile. The "tiger stripe" is from Proto 2000 before they were owned by Walthers. I have spent hours searching the internet for real train sounds and I just add them in when putting my movies together. :))
What does FRED mean. I know what it does but Im more familiar with the term EOT. And since when do modern diesel locomotives lack ditchlights? I have seen Oakways all the time and they have ditchlights. Why not the models??
As for the ditch lights, they were not standard until the 1990s. These locos represent units prior to that period when rotary beacons were common (I have those installed). The video is called "BN" Doublestack, not "BNSF". I have plenty of modern locos with ditch lights, just not these.
I personally like the Bachmann nickel silver track. It' easy to ballast and works well. The Kato track is nice too but a little pricy. It just depends on how much realism you looking for. The more you time you spend on it (ballasting, corks roadbed or plastic roadbed, etc.) the better it will look.
im rebuilding my train layout and want new train to go with my bachmann 0-6-0 HO and i want it to be diesel (my train layout has 1950's - 1970's feel.)
The sound bite I used was recorded in Canada. Who knows from what. I used it because it fit the scene. I don't know what exact part # EMD put on those Oakway SD60s. I DO KNOW that they are excellent pullers, and kick you in the butt when going thru transition. They are my favorite diesel and I have ridden on more than one.
I also liked the flashing FRED. For me, proper lighting is really an important part of modeling modern railroading. Sorry to hear the kit is no longer available, because it looks really good on your train!
hi, im currenty makin an intermodal freight train, planning on having a 40 unit train. can you tell me how many locos i will need to pull a 40 unit train?
I will offer you my best guess. I have 2 locos on the 37 car train in the video. That should be enough to pull 40 cars if they all roll well. If you are climbing hills, you might need 1 or 2 more, depending on how steep.
Thank you and I can. The detector is a sound bite I found on the web. If you don't know about them, here is a little info. Railroads use devices placed across the tracks to sense dragging equipment, hot axles & wheels, and the newest technology even senses odd vibrations and high pitched "squealing" that may indicate metal fatigue not seen by the naked eye with routine inspection.
After a train passes, a computer generated voice, is radioed out and gives an account of the reading taken. Part of the info given is: milepost location (used to determine which train the detector is talking to); a count of all axles (so if a defect is discovered it tells you which axle it's near); and which track the train is traveling on if multiple track mainline is involved. Sometimes train speed and temperature are called out too.
This is usually in hotter climate areas where temps over 90' can cause "sun kinks" in the continuous welded rail and slower speeds are required. I hope this helps and I was not too long winded. Apparently, the comment gallery thinks I was.
very nice, what is the layout size?

Simply... gorgeous! Do you weather locos and rolling stock?
DepletedU 2 years ago
Thanks, I don't really do too much weathering yet. Mostly wheels and trucks although I have done some heavier stuff on a few cars.

D - device

My friend Ross (rdw283) likes the coal trains too. He has several.

All i can think of when this video started is Mid-90's Savanna Illinois. EMD Units pulling random boxes!

Thought you would like to know, the club member who constructed the scene in the opening shot models the Chicago & North Western.
wesolint 4 years ago
Just the same as CNW EMDs pulling random boxes through Clinton IA.

Hey, I;m trying to get my HO set working, but the trains keep "freezing" on the tracks everytime, and I have to constatly clean them, what do you do?
BuckFush2222 4 years ago
use dcc no more dirty track
litespan46 4 years ago
Also, Varnish works quite well to clean up a track. I do it on my own set. Make sure you wipe it, then Dry it off quickly.

i love the sound is it the train or is it copied onto the vid?

It's dubbed (copied) onto the vid.

where do you get those blinking red lights on the back of the train from?

They were from Accurate Lighting (now out of business). Ring Engineering makes a nice one too - I don't own one yet though.
