I have a deaf cat. He has green eyes and he is white with caramel colored tabby markings. He leans so much on my hearing cats that it's actually angering one now. He will not leave one of my hearing ones alone. The hearing one acts as his ears to the world, but the hearing one doesn't realize this. He is super sweet. He is so loving. He is a great pet.

@judithkent111 Any white animal, and especially if they have blue eyes, may be deaf. Yes, it is a genetic thing. I was told a horse with a white head or say just ears and blue eyes, may be deaf - this by a horse person, but I don't know about all that freakiness! I have 2 white cats in my clutter of now a Lucky Seven - 1 with golden eyes and the other has blue - but neither is deaf.

@onekinkstar Same with dogs. If they have spots on the head then they are usually not deaf. If a white cat is born with a gray spot on the head, they will usually not be deaf and the spot often disappears as they get older. A white cat w one blue eye can be deaf in that ear but not the other.
