Our highschool band is playing it. I loove the song. I always imagine a bunny with a sword hoppin' around a meadow at night looking out for gremlins and gnomes that are tryin' to get 'im.
The brass is rather flat, but the articulation is very good... the big run about 30 secs in was too soft... the solo clari is a little flat but has a beautiful tone, so does the flute... shame about the trumpet theme, it makes me cry when it is performed flawelessly...
It is overall a good performance, my only criticism is that certain sections need to be louder/softer etc
The flute section is over-powering in this piece (the solo flute, the most).
Sometimes... ok, be serious, EVERY section thinks they are the best, and the others are wanna-bees (that's part of the fun of being IN band..the silly rivalries).
The director MUST be in charge and say, "others MUST be heard! YOU, check your ego at the door and play QUIETER!"
The flutest did play very well (good tone and technique), but they didn't hold the dotted half note to the full value. Very well done though! but the balance is off when the woodwinds come in.
So how come it's the flutes playing the accompaniment in the beginning, but not the 1st clarinet and the Eb clarinet (Or you can have two Eb clarinets or two transposed Bb clarinet parts)?
This is a hard movement played very well, but the trumpet solo... what happened?? More air and volume! It's a solo in one of the greatest wind ensemble pieces ever written!
cant even here the trumpet solos.

That's what I would have done here.
But... Good Performance!

Let me preface this by saying:
1) I'm a band director.
2) This is my favorite band piece - so have heard this piece MANY times over!
3) I'm a flute player- so ALWAYS partial to flute sections.

this song is so much fun to play, especially that clarinet solo in the middle. Favourite part.

trumpet solo needs work i have to say, but its tough to get such good tone on a moving part like that...

the tenor sax was reedy on the staccato part at the 47 second. The flutest plays with awsome tone.
