i always wondered what was up with her and her uneven bar dismounts. she must have had a bad experience with flyaway "back" dismounts and afraid of them. i've only seen her do front dismounts or those free hip counter dismounts.
I love that dismount!! It's called the Okino- a layed out version of Nadia's dismount. It's a HUGE improvement from that ridiculous fly-away dismount she did at 1991 Worlds. I would love to see Nastia try this dismount with her long lines over that atrocity she's been competing lately.
It is hardly a layout, though. It starts off that way but pikes and tucks at the end. I wonder if a double front would have been a better choice for her - she had lovely swing and a high Jaeger.
Betty Okino did not originally qualify to the Semi-Finals in UB because her teammates Kim Zmeskal and Kerri Strug placed higher than her. When Zmeskal opted out of UB Semi-Finals (most likely to save her wrists from futher injury), Okino took her place.
Hmm, I thought Strug was the one who took Kims place, because her routine wasnt as good, Betty had really nice form and great handstands on this event,she deserved silver

Not for me-I love the "Okino". I think it's a unique dismount. It was then and it still is imo.

@TuesdayPillow She actually did a double front for a very brief period of time, but then the injury train came along and she never got off.

I didn't know she made it to the semi finals!

Well, apparently she made it to finals cause she placed 2nd and won the silver lol!
Great routine. A little funky on the dismount, but at least she stuck it!

@Athlete065
If she hadn't made it to the semi-finals, how would she have ended up with the silver medal?
