@ngladstoned This song was written by Mike Starr. Sang by Layne. Layne didn't sing it how Mike Starr wanted it sang, so it was never released on the album. So...... yes Mike STARR was still in the band at this time. Lol.
I'm a HUGE fan of death metal, death core, industrial metal, and so on. But I listen to Alice in Chains more than I listen to anything else. I jam Alice while I'm rippin' it up on CoD:MW2, and they just help make it better. Alice is my muse.

@patmac573 I have to agree nothing to brag about but being a recovering h addict you can get a completely different connection and perception to how brilliant chains was in the 90s

@blackcrow6667 right on dude. as much as I'd like to think they've 'met' in an afterlife, it's just wishful thinking. unfortunately they've ceased to exist.
@rockerduff1231 I'm pretty optimistic, despite my ignorant comment. Not that I think they're playing music together, death brings about a great change, but I do think consciousness and existence are eternal. They may not be the people we knew them to be, we change from moment to moment even while we're alive, but I'm confident they've become something new again in nature, as this game of life carries indefinitely. As Alan Watts once said, the mystic knows you can only get something from nothing.

@ZzDe0 I agree.Ilove every song they ever sang...The only other singers I can say that about is chris cornell with every band he sang for and shinedown.
@Ekyvvsaq Listen to Mad Season's album Alone, then for contrast Dirt by Alice in Chains. Layne was a tremendously versatile singer. He had tremendous talent. Its easy to listen to one song and generalize prematurely.
@HairyGoatSniffer 1. Thanks for answering maturely. Few people do that nowadays.
2. I was thinking about Mad Season, live at the moore, there he sounds good, but I've been listening to live versions of songs from "Dirt" and compared it to the album, and it doesnt sound the same, and to me, and artist that is only good in studio, and not live, is not talented. But Jerry is great, besides he wrote almost everything.
@Ekyvvsaq Alice in Chains did rely heavily on overdubbing, but thats not neccessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it takes a little more thought to come up with several intricate riffs that fit the tone of the song. Layne wasn't always great live, but thats probably cause he was tripping on drugs and booze. I think he was pretty awesome on their Unplugged set (a little nasally, but I still listen to it). It just depends on the song when its live. I like all of it, but I prefer their EPs.
Diverse in so many ways...acid/psychedelic rock, blues, and even folk rock. Each album of theirs is different from the last. But vocals not so much. In fact the band at first even questioned Morrison being the lead singer. Page and Plant were " To me" the old version of Staley and Cantrell. But all played GREAT MUSIC. Vocals are a whole different thing. Staley, and Cornell win Vedder is pretty good (Pearl Jam unplugged). The best have all three Vocals, Lyrics, and Music composition. Thanks!
A lot to think about when the words the BEST are used when talking about bands. My personal favorite band of all times is Alice in Chains, in a very close tie with Tool. Bands like the Doors, Zeppline, even Pink Floyed where kick ass too. The Doors had one of the best writers in Morrison, and they did concept albums. The drummers back ground was in a drumline. The guitar player was a flamingo style guitarist using a slide, and the organ player played the rhythm and bass at the sametime.
iam 16 years old and get really fucking tired of listen to shitty music bullshit like fuck techno shit and hip hop i wish grunge or something would get mainstream and put there foot up justin beiber ass or something
@misfitugly Aha. Grunge was fantastic, I agree, but there was/is lots of great hip hop, for example. The hip hop-groups of 90's were huge and pretty fantastic. Even Nirvana's Kurt Cobain loved hip hop, Public Enemy's album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back was one of his top albums of all time, after all.
@wrotethebookonpain As for Plant, I have to disagree with you that Layne outperformed him. He was the pinnacle of vocalists, and still is even now. But then again these are two different genres of music where different aspects of it are meant to overshadow others. Zeppelin was a whole different story because they had pretty much the best of the best at every section. For grunge I think it is more about the darkness and struggles which are expressed by the guitar and the words, not so much voice
grunge is about voice too, yes its also about the sludgy sounds of the guitar. but staley, cobain, cornell, vedder, weiland and the dude from the smashing pumpkins man. it was about their voices as well. cobains voice was the voice of the generation, a 90s lennon. but i think layne had the most talent of all. damn sad the man isnt still here id love to see that talented bastard in concert in his prime. like the hollywood 92 concert is layne at his best
@wrotethebookonpain Morrison was not much of a vocalist per se. there was a concert (recorded on an album I think because my uncle actually played it for me) where Morrison actually passed out on stage and the piano player filled in the vocals, and he sounded almost exactly like him. Morrison was more of a writer and a frontman, like a leader type almost. he was the face of the band. Most people do not know anybody elses name in The Doors.
after years of being an AIC diehard fan i'd listen to a lot of bands and styles and now, looking in perpesctive, what layne did.....i mean what layne did with jerry, did you ever hear any other musicians who fits so well as those 2?their legacy will allways prevail and now i can only think of AIC as the greatest band ever

@wrotethebookonpain ok, I know im gonna be SOOO hated for this, but.... A scratchy voice with tons of delay isn't talent!
Ekyvvsaq 11 months ago
@Ekyvvsaq Listen to Mad Season's album Alone, then for contrast Dirt by Alice in Chains. Layne was a tremendously versatile singer. He had tremendous talent. Its easy to listen to one song and generalize prematurely.
HairyGoatSniffer 11 months ago
@HairyGoatSniffer 1. Thanks for answering maturely. Few people do that nowadays.
2. I was thinking about Mad Season, live at the moore, there he sounds good, but I've been listening to live versions of songs from "Dirt" and compared it to the album, and it doesnt sound the same, and to me, and artist that is only good in studio, and not live, is not talented. But Jerry is great, besides he wrote almost everything.
Ekyvvsaq 11 months ago

The guitar player was a flamingo style guitarist using a slide, and the organ player played the rhythm and bass at the sametime.

iam 16 years old and get really fucking tired of listen to shitty music bullshit like fuck techno shit and hip hop i wish grunge or something would get mainstream and put there foot up justin beiber ass or something
misfitugly 11 months ago
@misfitugly Aha. Grunge was fantastic, I agree, but there was/is lots of great hip hop, for example. The hip hop-groups of 90's were huge and pretty fantastic. Even Nirvana's Kurt Cobain loved hip hop, Public Enemy's album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back was one of his top albums of all time, after all.

@wrotethebookonpain Don't get me wrong I love AIC and Layne as well, but i disagree with you in the sense that he is a better vocalist than Plant.
mountaineer21842 11 months ago
@wrotethebookonpain As for Plant, I have to disagree with you that Layne outperformed him. He was the pinnacle of vocalists, and still is even now. But then again these are two different genres of music where different aspects of it are meant to overshadow others. Zeppelin was a whole different story because they had pretty much the best of the best at every section. For grunge I think it is more about the darkness and struggles which are expressed by the guitar and the words, not so much voice
mountaineer21842 11 months ago
grunge is about voice too, yes its also about the sludgy sounds of the guitar. but staley, cobain, cornell, vedder, weiland and the dude from the smashing pumpkins man. it was about their voices as well. cobains voice was the voice of the generation, a 90s lennon. but i think layne had the most talent of all. damn sad the man isnt still here id love to see that talented bastard in concert in his prime. like the hollywood 92 concert is layne at his best
dimebag19891 11 months ago
@wrotethebookonpain Morrison was not much of a vocalist per se. there was a concert (recorded on an album I think because my uncle actually played it for me) where Morrison actually passed out on stage and the piano player filled in the vocals, and he sounded almost exactly like him. Morrison was more of a writer and a frontman, like a leader type almost. he was the face of the band. Most people do not know anybody elses name in The Doors.
