I like all your videos dude. . .i have a sump similar to yours but waht about if instead of use a 5 gal container i I decided to put some sand, micro algae and some kind of light in the middle section of the sump and use it as a refugium. . .is correct to du that and what kind of light should I use for my refugium? please answer''
do you need a powerhead for a 10 gallon reef? i am setting one up myself. how do you keep your water good? because i see a lot of coraline algae, i believe.
hey mate just wondering, do clowns or corals need any kind of heating? if so what would that temperature be and is it okay to put the heater in my sump?
oh if it's just fish it's no big deal. And coraline doesn't need a lot of light. Coraline groes best under 50/50 with a calcium level of 400 ppm'ish. It will grow under plane floresent and lower calcium, but slower. Also helps to put a piece of rock with coraline directly in the flow of a pump or filter so it'll spread or seed the tank. It'll come in it's own time without fail, then you may wish you never got it to begin with :)
I get evaporation on a daily basis. How much evaporates depends on the dryness of the air in the house that day. I replace evaporation with FRESH RO/DI water so that I don't mess with the salinity of the overall water. That's because evaporations only evaporates water, and not salt.
If it's an odd amount of water gone do a good check for leaks, spills, etc.
I just want to say I have been quietly watching for a while and I am amazed at what you have done. I have a 12 gallon Nano Cube right now that has not done nearly as well as your 10 gallon. I am in the process of setting up a 45 gallon bow front corner tank and I hope to be able to use some of the ideas you have given me. First of all is the making of my own rock.
thanks :) me also. I just moved the 90 inside....that was a chore. This weekend I'm going to level, plumb, put the rocks in, run freshwater for a week or so to test the flow and ph. Cycle will hopefully start at the end of the month.
That being said if my rocks aren't ready by the end of Oct I'm just going to buy some dead base rock to get it going and switch it slowly later.
the clowns are about 2 inches for the small one, 2.25 for the big. Clowns are good cause they kind of grow slow or not at all depending on the tank size. They'd be perfect for a 9 gal, but I'd only keep clowns, they can be very agressive in a small area....very territorial.
wow dude nice video i can wait for your 90gal video update....lol i have you locked into my phone becouse you inspire all of us DIY people to make things happen love the vids and i cant wait to see more ....so please keep them comming thank you and you have done a great job
if it's anything like my shroom it took a while for it to reach a comfort and happy state. Once it got used to the tank it started spliting like crazy. Only thing I can suggest is to have it in a lower light, low flow area of the tank, that's kind of calm. Plus good water quality and it should start to split in its own good time. The better the water the happier the creatures. Good water + food (with corals it's mainly light) the more growth you'll get.
Thanks I will start moving him till he is happier cause right now he isn't to thrilled haha. And same for the star polyps any tips for them cause they arent happy.
That's weird cause that's almost exactly how I have mine and they hate it. But I also got thatcnew light do you think the watt diffrence has anything to do with it

@clanimmune ya I had a power head in this tank. A korellia nano is the best choice imp....or if you have tons of cash to blow a Vortech MP10 :D
I changed 20% water each week to keep the water good.

may need better water flow for that lil guy, like a small power head inside the tank

I may do a nano one this weekend. There's been a lot of changes to the nano in anticipation to the 90 being ready to go.

dudepros 2 years ago
best temp for corals and clowns is 77-81F. Yes that's another reason to have a sump....to keep all the unsightly equipment out of the display tank.
I keep my tank around 78

Thanks wwarick. I hope the 45 goes well for you. All my reading points to bigger tanks are easier and more forgiving than smaller ones.
Let me know if you get pics or vid's of your aquariums. It's always great to see others setups to learn from and enjoy.
Heh when I go get something from the buy and sell for my aquarium, I'm more excited to see the sellers tank than the item I'm getting usually.

You could use your 10g as a qt tank until you are fully stocked.
Isawayne 2 years ago
ya I was thinking that also. Think I'll setup the frag tank as able to be qt or frag.
1mkwiet 2 years ago
good thought. thanks for reminding me..I had forgotten about a qt.

Really Great Update i personally like this rockwork better then the old one! Are u gonna transfer everything into ur 90?
animalmastermtd 2 years ago
ya eventually it will all go to the 90. then my 2 10 gals will turn into 1 refugiuem, and a frag/water change tank.

"Get freaky with your mushroom"--I love it. The tank looks amazing. I can't wait to see everything in the 90.

might be, those are some pretty beefy lights. Might want to move them see how they respond in a different section of the tank.
1mkwiet 2 years ago
yea i will try that. they used to be so full they were like a carpet lol i really want them to get like that again so they can spread
