Burn the gospel of lunacy, my ritual has begun. Bathe in the darkness, it is Satan's creation. For life eternal in the demon's lodge. Burn the book of lies with flames. Choose the darkened spiraling path. Unholy world of doom and gloom awaits. Breath of demons soon flow. Darkness in your soul for all time. A gathering storm in a shadowy realm. Black clouds boiling in the sky. Signed in the shrine of blood 'n fear. The diabolical temple of hell. Satan's feet mark the ground.
All things work together for good for those who love God. I thank Jesus for dying for our sins...and now are resurrected with Him. Praise God for showing me His glory. At 3:33 a.m. I looked out my window into the night sky a nd saw shooting star...awesome!!!
thank you for this, it is no mistake that i came across this video posting, Christ makes no mistake in the situations he guides us into! thank you and that the almighty creator Christ lord God almighty!
This entire series is ridiculous. I'm so grateful for my intellect because if I was uneducated, I would be so vulnerable to being manipulated by the fear and guilt of religion. I'm so happy I'm an agnostic, and if it were up to me, there would be no religion. It is a cancer to mankind, which takes solid, fundamental morals and twists them. Even the devil can use the bible to his advantage, and there really is no more point to read the bible than there is to read a fictional novel on a rainy day.
Yes. Organized religion promotes a lack of tolerance for people of different walks of life. In this day and age, with so much diversity, religion really shouldn't play as big of a role in society as it used to when people were uneducated and had no other explanation other than "some all-powerful being in the sky did everything".
Wait: So, let me get this straight. You're saying that - hypothetically - if Christianity is true, it should be ignored and treated as if it isn't; that even if God exists, he's unimportant and should be left out of the big picture?
The thing is, Christianity can't possibly be true because there are many contradictions and if one of the Gospels were true, then the others would be false. Theoretically, if one part of a religion disproves another part of that same religion, then that religion can't be true.
Also, Christianity is based off a bunch of parables that Jesus used. It's more of a philosophy based on metaphors. Mixing faith and truth is mixing apples and oranges. The whole sin/salvation aspect is a mere fear tactic.
Yes, there are a few contradictions. Most of them are based upon misunderstandings. The vast majority of contradictions have been answered by real apologists (Ray here wouldn't fit in that category) and theologians.
So, you're trying to say that the central message of Christianity is based upon fear, when the very love spoken of by Christianity - on more than a dozen occasions - speaks vehemently against fear?
Or, are you saying this is some fear tactic is used to lure in the faithless?
The childhood indoctrination, nearly half of the commandments, the threats of hell, God's wrath in the Bible (which takes up quite a lot of it, mind you)...quite a lot is based on fear. It says plain and simple in the bible that you should fear God about 20 times or so. Hell, fear of the lord is described as one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.
This isn't based on misunderstanding in the slightest.
So, given that the word used for "fear" in Scripture - in the original Greek and Hebrew languages - means "Reverent" means more along the lines of "Revere."
The vast majority of Christianity in this world doesn't study the hebrew version. You can't just tap dance between versions until you find the meaning that supports what you're saying at the time.
Given the wealth of information available, ignorance on such a topic shouldn't really be an issue. Knowing that "Fear" speaks of Reverence within scripture is something that is well attested to within Christianity.
Point in fact: You've based your idea that Christianity is based on fear (by the way, the number of times the Bible says "do not fear" numbers over 300 compared to the 20-so "fear God" references) on a misunderstanding.
And, your misunderstandings are your basis for rejection.
Being constantly told to love and not fear a God while being told to also fear him is one of the reasons the bible is so laughably inconsistent.
I never said that Christianity is based completely on fear. Just that fear is a center-point of it, one of many.
Misunderstanding is certainly not the basis of which I reject Christianity. Moreso the falsehood of its divine claims, the contradictions, the biblical errors, and its very questionable morals, all on top of how obviously man-made it is.
Right, right - I'm sorry. I forgot that we should ignore the original languages when it comes to studying Scripture.
This "Fear" thing is a dead end. There are multiple words translated as "fear" - the vast majority of the ones saying, "Fear God" are more aptly translated as "revere."
The others are the fear you think is a central point.
So, I'm forced to wonder how many of these other contradictions and inconsistencies of yours are as easily dealt with as the fear-claims.
Easily dealt with by you - it's easy to claim that it's all misunderstanding and then using liberal interpretations to work around what is blatantly said in the text. You could do the same thing with Mein Kampf and make it seem innocent; just claim all the evil bits are misunderstood and use liberal translations to stress why.
It's also easy to hold to a misunderstanding and deny any explanation for something for a variety of reasons no matter how valid an explanation may be.
The 95-99% of the original Hebrew we have is readily available and accessible to anyone who wants to look into it.
But, hey - If we wanted to point to things done wrong by people as an excuse, let's not assume atheism is a golden ray of hope: Well, we can do that if you like being selective, I suppose.
Threats of hell? There is no "threat" - it's a warning. Childhood indoctrination is practiced by atheists just as much as theists. Of course, atheists label it as "free thinking" ironically.
You *warn* people of things that exist. You *threaten* people of things that don't exist but that you'll try and make exist depending on what the threatened does. Quite a big difference.
As far as Atheist childhood indoctrination, well, telling kids that there is no Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy is hardly indoctrination, isn't it? Most Atheist parents give their children facts and that's it - granted, including the fact that religion is quite evidently man-made.
In a naturalistic world, surely no such thing as hell exists. When you presuppose that such doesn't exist, then these become threats.
However, if they do exist, then they're warnings.
Let's be honest: God, heaven, and hell have not been disproved. You may think and believe such do not exist and you may have your reasons based upon evidences of sorts: But, the debate is far from conclusive, and thus raising children to believe there is no God is the same form of indoctrination.
There are a lot of things that haven't been disproved: Unicorns, fairies, leprechauns, et cetera, but would you say it is childhood indoctrination to tell a child that these things haven't been observed?
If you want to say that hell is a warning and not a threat, then I'm afraid you have to say the Greek underworld is also a warning, and being reincarnated as a lesser animal, et cetera - every religion fables the downfall of not acting how you're supposed to, and most are mutually exclusive.
As for the original hebrew text (or what we have left of it), it's not what the vast majority of Christians read, so when someone makes a comment about the modern body of Christianity, saying that the original form meant something different doesn't really mean a lot. It doesn't change the fact that Christianity has a long history of fear, which would be historically evident even if the bible didn't mention it at all. I mentioned threats of hell, childhood indoctrination, the crusades, etc.
Things would still be better without it because as soon as religion is taken literally, people will kill in order to disprove it. If God did exist, he needs to stay out of it. It is tyranny for people to live in fear of something that has control over them and there are some parts of the Bible that, if they were true, would condemn almost all people. I do believe there are moral truths that Jesus preached, but the divine aspect and fear in God hurts his cause when it comes to the well-educated.
Well, you've danced around the question a bit. We're speaking hypothetically right now, and it seems rather absurd to me to deny God if - Hypothetically - he exists. If Christianity is true, then it would be the most important message ever spoken.
Though, I find your comment about people trying to kill religion quite interesting. It indicates that some people simply don't want to believe in a God - even if he exists, and that they'll somehow be justified in the end.
I sat here this morning and watched the whole "The Evidence"...EXCELLENT!! Thank you so very much for posting this.
(I only wish I could get my relatives to watch....right now, I can just show them through my words & actions...and pray for them....but I really would like them to join us, I cannot imagine heaven without them!)
wait, in order to clarify the word of Jesus Christ, you are directing people to the apocrypha? that makes no sense whatsoever.
im sorry but if you can tell people to read non-canonical text them im here to say that the gospel of thomas is absolutely NOT the uncorrupted word of the Lord and it has gnostic tones.
in other words, its the last thing anyone should be trying to read.
, god is not wise to create people who become wicked. It is surprising he could create anything that would be any better than would happen by chance by evolution, since the things he created turn wicked.
As Jesus said, you tell a tree by its fruits, the fruits of gods inept handiwork are so wicked he destroys them. As you must admit either god himself is evil, or he is a stupid imbecile that could only be worshiped by similarly stupid people who believe god is not evil.
Just curious; how successful has it been using this series as a tool to share your faith?
I just watched the entire series, and frankly, I found almost every point he made laughable.
Anyone who doesn't believe the Bible will not be convinced by any of the false arguments Ray has made here, since most of it blatantly goes against facts and reason.
That's not true. The definition of "faith" is believing something without evidence. Some answers have evidence to back them up. So not every answer is a matter of faith.
yes - some answers have evidence but this is true on both sides of the discussion so ultimately it comes down to a matter of faith. It is in that arena that the ultimate decision is made. If you were to suggest that evolutionists were totally basing their opinion on evidence I'd have to discredit your statement because there is too much "evidence" missing for one to make an absolute decision.
It's not really remotely even. One is based on a theory based on the distribution of life, the fossil record, DNA information, vestigial organs, and not to mention plainly observed evolution, et cetera.
When one is based on a very obviously man-made ancient book written by ancient people who knew relatively nothing about the universe compared to what we know now.

Until resurrected, RIP 325 AD
Do not ensnarl Jesus simple words in distractions, and certainly NOT His mission with enduring man-made conventions dating to 325 AD
Give to evolutionist what is theirs, and to the people His simple teachings.
To those who believe On Earth As In Heaven, restore His uncorrupted word found in the Gospel of Thomas and you will resurrect Jesus.
Let us rescue Jesus from His hijackers of yester-age and today. Keep it simple, and in your heart.
AMEN
