just bought this, however there's a problem! When I try to record in Garageband it won't receive any signal at all, i went to recording level and when clicked it can't physically be increased, it stays at zero, anyone any advice?
Hey, so I've watched a few videos of people recording with one and they are all using a stand with some sort of attachment on the end to hold ONE. What is it? and where can I get one?
at 2:12 the video shows the drummer clearly hitting the floor tom followed by the snare, however the audio track sounds like a floor tom to the bass drum with no snare, implying that the video track is not the same as the recorded track. while this may not mean a thing, it means that it is possible that the miking may have been done differently than was in the video.
@DJWade7 Two different takes were filmed and recorded. When I did the editing that take looked better so I used it, but the audio was from the other take. If you like, you can go to our website apogeedigital and download the whole GarageBand session. In that session you will see that the drums are indeed recorded on a single track, and that track was recorded with ONE's internal microphone.
for the haters of apogee's one or the guys who'd like to buy one of one <= :D
this interface is absolutly amazing! everything works perfect. i record voice, drums, bass and vocals with it. and the good thing about is: its just a lil bit bigger than the iphone. okey about the sound in this vid.. look at the brand of the instruments (: good instruments make good sound on your track and bad instruments, make terrible sounds on it. I scream in the mic of one and there is no clipping or something
sounds great ,is there something you did to take out white noise ? when i use my one with garageband i always hear a lot of hissing. is there away to get a bright sound using one without whitenoise?
@sktbj Have you tried contacting our tech support department? They can help you go through and make sure everything is set up correctly. You can reach them at 310-584-9394 or email them from our website
@sktbj That's probably noise that's in the room already. The built-in mic is omni-directional, so it picks up everything in the room. This is quite irritating since I live right by a highway. LOL.
the drums do sound way too good to come from the mic but everyone is acting like Apogee is a small buisness that doesnt know what its doing. The one is a kick ass device quality wise and convience wise, whether you wanna record with your own mics and stuff or dont believe the quality in this video i think the one is convienent and awesome :)
I am not an experienced drummer, but after reading in the comment secton I think it would be an idea to make a video of how you actually recorded the drums. At the time being it doesn't seem like people believes believes you, so maybe you'll even sell better if you show them how you did it ..! :)
ok so I find it hard to believe you can just use this device without any compute software at least to record and mix a song.. lol... sorry I'd rather use the right mics for recording and my own ways of doing it.
@mrsammmyy a DAW is a Digital Audio Workstation. Basically it's music recording, mixing and mastering software such as Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic etc. Ignore my previous comment though, it seems that this will only work on a mac as no drivers have been developed for PC :/
Recording mono drums with a single condenser or ribbon mic is a technique that has been used for the last 80 years! Listen to the tune "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse. The entire drum kit is captured with one mic! Do the research! The reason why it sounds so good is: Great kit + Great player + Good room + Great Engineer + Good gear = a Great recording. The apogee one is only a small part of the recording equation. Apogee gear is great!
I've been playing drums a long time and I'm telling you RIGHT NOW, there is NO WAY you will get a kick to sound like that, without a loss of processing after you record a kit like that. That kick sounds like it's CLOSED MIC'd and they mic is NO WHERE close to that head... Sorry, I think there is something fishy about this.
@robdrums69 The kit was recorded with ONE's internal mic, as a mono file in GarageBand. The only "Processing" was using the compressor, EQ, and a touch of reverb in GarageBand. You can download the GarageBand file from our website to see what we did.
Drums always sound good in mono. It's about the performance more than the mic. Great guitar playing, drumming, and singing, on an average/good, convenient mic.
@playthekicks You should be able to unlock them in the file, but here are the compression settings: Threshhold -24 db Ratio:1.8:1 Attack 8.5ms Gain 3db
The kit is a Slingerland Studio King Drum Kit -16x22" Kick, 8x12" Tom,16x16" Floor Tom, 6.5x14" Ludwig Black Beauty Snare Drum. Remo Drumheads Powerstroke 3 on Kick,Clear Ambassador on Toms Coated Ambassador on Snare. Zildjian A-Custom Cymbals.
@baugusgatlin Yes it does. I have done some recordings with ONE and a 6505+. I am AMAZED at how well the mic sounds. I would recommend ONE to anyone who wants a simple recording solution.
what they did for the drums was, lay them down then use a software sound based on the pattern they made thats why it sounds so good, you guys gotta think outside the box
Practicing musicians / learners, if you could fill out my easy 4 question survey for my research project it would be much appreciated. The link is in the info of my video called practicing musicians thanks.
@apogeedigital I will admit apogee has excellent converters and it may be a nice little mic but the kick drum sound is very defined and really sounds like yall used triggers or recorded the kick separately
Two different takes were filmed and recorded. When I did the editing that take looked better so I used it, but the audio was from the other take. If you like, you can go to our website apogeedigital and download the whole GarageBand session. In there you will see that the drums are indeed recorded on a single track, and that track was recorded with ONE's internal microphone.
now i downloaded the whole song and listened to it in garageband and also logic express 8. it really sounds great. the drums were recorded in mono. could here and see it by analyzing the drum-take.
so what can i say: great mic! i am going to record drums again. i hope with the same results.
@BlasiusKarachus Yeah, I was thinking, there is NO WAY they could get that sound with only the built in mic. Also saw that he did a floor tom and snare. So the drum track in the video is bogus. Which leaves me to question the vocal and acoustic guitar track too.
@sunofnothin Also, when he starts fade out the audio track is the drummer hitting what sounds like a crash, and in the video he goes back to the hi hats. Uh....?
@sunofnothin I know it's hard to believe, and if I wouldn't have been there filming it, I may have hard time believing it too. As for the different drum hits, as I explained before, I shot two different takes of video, and Brian played it different each time. So what you are seeing is video from one take, and hearing audio from the other. If you are in the L.A. area and want to see a live demo... Let me know
Wow! Fantastic! I got my ONE and have loved it with Logic Pro, but what a fantastic demonstrations of just how great this can sound with excellent musicians and know-how. Fun demonstration, and a great tune.

Can U upload a rap demo recording by One,please & thankQ !!!!!

@kingrool0311 live rapping is different than recorded rapping
live mc's put their face practically in the mic to make the speakers go boom
if you're going to record a pre-packaged, commercial-type rap song I'm sure this would work nicely

im confused, do you plug the guitars into the jack socket from your amp or do you record it on the mic
also, what if you need it loud for feedback or heavy drums ?
you should do a video on the eq for the drums and how to make them clear

@stupidbuttheads For this song the acoustic guitars were recorded with ONE's internal mic. The Bass was plugged in direct to the 1/4" input on ONE.
