The only way to play this level. No gay chimes or anything just you and lady luck. Figuring this out on the nes game took me months. I used to skip this world all the time because my Dad and I could beat 8 no problem but this was a much greater challenge.

Very informative. Such a shame these PC emulators of the game seem to slow down the music. Every super mario bros video on youtube has that same artefact. Fortunately it runs correctly on the virtual console on Wii.

It's not hard once you realize what's going on (which doesn't take long when you see that you're going through the same place over and over). There's only 2*3*2 = 12 combinations for each half of the level, and once you clear each part it doesn't make you do it again.

This is one of my favorite levels.
