You reckon? I caught an australian redback, closely related and kept it in a jar where it proceeded to drip venom off it's fangs when threatened by a finger or stick.
Other Australian species, such as the Sydney funnel web spider, have been known to show the same behavior. It was most likely trying to scare the threat away by showing off.
Yah that's 2 females...pretty odd behavior though. The brownish one is younger but not a male, the males are WAY smaller. It must be her daughter but the black widow will even kill their daughters if they stick around too long, they are just total bitches overall so that's odd behavoir indeed.
