No it's not overpriced. You don't buy a GTR just becaue it can run 11.6 down the 1/4 mile. You buy it because it has incredible ability around a track and is able to beat cars more than 3 times its price e.g koenigsegg CCX, Porsche turbo and GT2, 430 scuderia, Lambo LP640 and Pagani Zonda F just to name a few. Now that's good value. Believe me, a Nissan GTR uses more expensive parts than a Typhoon.

So what if the Z06 is marginally quicker down the 1/4(it does weigh over 300kg less and holds a hp advantage over the GTR).
In the racing world the GTR with superior braking,cornering ability and unrivalled stability would exit any corner faster and therfore have the Z06 playing catch up around almost any circuit.
The Z06 does seem at home at the strip with its 7L v8,although what im trying to say is that drag racing is not the GTR's purpose and that it is a better balanced all round supercar!
It's very possible for that GTR to run a mid 11 at this track. Look at the video closely and you can see approximately before the 1/8 you can see the track starts a downgrade.
search ranger z06.. stock z06 running 11.2. better than gtr with perfect launch.. its been proven by motortrend that pre factory GTRS tested all many of the videos were not stock and were actually running "520hp"...they dynoed a gtr having 520 hp...use the same dyno for a z06 and got 466 hp at the wheels.
Remember motortrend was totally speculating on the drivetrain losses and from that stating that GTR maybe producing 500+ horses or more depending on the percentage of drivetrain loss from engine-transmission and finally drive shafts eventually to the wheels.
Nowhere did motortrend said that they actually took the engine out and checked brake horsepower meaning their test lacks specificity and thus results questionable since they're speculating drive train losses. They're NOT engineers
...and look up the Z06, factory spec time 11.7 at 125 mph. Are you saying its impossible to run faster than the manufacturer spec time? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the ZR1 will be turning times faster than 11.2 once it hits public strips. Granted, a majority of owners (just like the Z06) will never come near the factory spec time, but there will be a few that will get substantially bellow it. You can begin your search for such times over at Corvette forum...in the fast list.

think about what a turbo does it will only give power in certain parts of the rev range yet will still get the gtr to 60mph in 3.4secs compared to the zo6's 4secs and i know someone will say he zr1 will do it in rthe same but they keep have to modify it to do that and a gtr will be better on the road and better build quality
Do you even know what a Turbo does? Have you checked how the GTR is geared. Extremely short, that's why it falls on its face past 100(that and its 3800lb curb weight). I'll grant you, up to 100, its a race, but past 100 mph the Z06 will walk on a GTR...all day long. As far as the GTR being better on the road than the ZR1. Doubt it, MRS is a hell of a technology...so much so Ferrari uses it in their 599.

Seriously stop using a turbo system from the 80s, the spool and response on any modern turbo (espeicaly when talking about the system employed by the gtr) is nil unless youre waiting for huge psi numbers to build (which with the gtr, youre not).

More power wins. Thats all. The Vette is a good base to start with, its not obscenely heavy, and the new ones have great power out the box. The new ZR1 coming out is just making it a lot better. I would favor the new GTR but I hate the paddle shift crap! So due to this, I'm on the ZR1's side. Its sad too because I own an '06 Spec-V but I'm on Chevy's side on this one... Go figure.

well u know the new ZR1 ring time is 7.24. 2nd the 7.29 gtr time was a stock GTR. the stock GTR time is 7.38. 3rd nissans engineers said and i quote "we are hoping and its our goal to have the vpec lap the Nurburgring in under 7.30"
If Z06 CANNOT beat R8 on 4 different tracks, forget even coming close to the GTR. So it makes sense when GTR ran on WET TRACK and still got a 7 min 38 sec time which is ALREADY 4 secs faster than Z06 time.

While street races are fun to watch with all those 1000hp GTRs, but i'm usually cautious cuz my friend lost his limb in a street race. There are plenty of tracks to go racing now, especially California, Arizona, Florida, Texas. If you live in nyc you can goto Jersey now.....
i wouldn't underestimate the Z06 on the tracks either, they're a monster coming out of the turns and by the time the turbo spools in most of the cars on the track Z06 is usually way ahead of em. The only thing thats going against Z06 now is that cheap ass Nissan has decided to bring the GTR back with no 280ps (~300 hp) limitation, that has pretty much started a war of words in Japan, Europe and America about who can one up the other's nurburgring (track unknown to most till last year) time.
This test done by Steve Millen...who on Big Willow could only drive the Z06 1 second faster than a standard Z51...Millen...who was a nissan racer and founder of Stillen a huge after market supplier for nissan. Not to mention old Steve's involvement in the R35 developement. If for nothing else but extreme familiarity with the GTR, Millen's results are hardly reliable. Not to mention his inability to drive rear wheel american cars...well, at least not when getting paid by Road and Track.

Not disputing who Road and Track used for their test, just the reliability of the tester.If you would have read a little bit further, RT also says that they didn't give the drivers a lot of time to familiarize themselves with the cars. Therefore, its a no brainer that Millen is going to turn faster lap times with the GTR (a car that he's been deeply involved with) than the Z06 (a car he's admittedly uncomfortable with). I say let Jim Mero, Johnny O or Henricy turn some laps in the vette.
I doubt it. The zo6 is much quicker than the stock gtr so the extra 130hp of the zr1 should easily beat the vspec. The pre-production gtr was modified as various tests have shown. It ran 11.5 at 125 in the 1/4 mile while the production gtr runs closer to 12-12.2 at only 112. Even the vspec will not come close to the 11.3 @ 130mph the zr1 will do in the 1/4. On the track the zo6 has put up impressive numbers as well (Top Gear, Nurburgring). The zr1 should do the same if not better.
Hmmm, hard to say. The Z-r1 would be more sideways fun i think,lots of power to play with, but most people will wright them off for lack of driving ability. A little moisture on the road is great, but when your spinning it up and wanting to win, it's time for Godzilla to come out & play havoc on the roads with all the BIG BOYS and superchargers :)

yea, i think a c6 zo6 would be a lil much to handle in the rain, let alone the zr1 and thats where the GTR will dominate. but i think comparing the 2 is almost dumb, i just dont see the 2 as rivals...the ZR1 is a super low production, limited run, cheap hypercar. i see the GTR as exactly what Nissan says, the everyday supercar, easy for anyone...but i think with a good driver in both cars, with good conditions, the ZR1 would be faster. i would imagine the ZR1 would toast the gtr after 100mph
Yep...all GT-R R35's are. They have paddle shifters behind the steering wheel as well. AND it has a launch control feature, but I don't think it was used for this run. Was it?
define automatic cuz if by automatic transmission you mean a typical automatic where there is interrupted power b/w gears than NO.
If you mean DSG transmission where there is uninterrupted engine power and uninterrupted turbo boost b/w gears via use of 2 clutches than its NOT your typical automatic.

The ZR-1 is gonna be awesome but the bottom line is if you are gonna have 600 hp in a car it needs to be either all wheel drive, or the engine needs to be sitting on top of the drive wheels out back. Otherwise you're just buying tires every six weeks.
i kno production is discontinued (or merely halted til 2009) but wat could engineers do with a nsx-r with 450hp and other changes to the car(carbon fiber, wider tires, etc.)? could it be in the top 10 around nur?

I've seen the videos of most of the runs I listed. The only times which I'm unsure are those of the v-spec and lf-a. Shut your mouth if you don't know what you are talking about.
The radicals and dankes are road legal cars, and they qualify way above the GTR in this track. He also biased his list by not putting the Zonda F (which beats the GTR) and saying that the Carrera GT was 4 seconds slower than it actually is. The GTR is a fast car but its no way near the record for road legal cars on that track.
Well, I never said it wasn't road legal. But so are many other "things". A radical is closer to a GO KART than a true car. A GTR is the complete package; it has radio, AC, and can be driven to the mountains to ski.
A Zonda is more of a street legal race car, and is no way user friendly. A GTR has the whole package, with supercar-killing performance to boot. The V spec has less commodities... but you can strip even the V spec down until it is a go kart... not very appealing.
You left out the Pagani Zonda F (7:28), The Radical SR3 and SR8 and the Dankevoort.
Also, the Carrera GT has a time of 7:29 and the GT2 has a time of 7:31. The Veyron was never timed on Nurburgring, that 7:40 was speculation made by an australian magazine.
ive gone through all the posts and sick of hearing that this is a "slow" car... bear in mind people that this car was in the country for around a month or less before this was filmed at which time the car was complete STOCK... the owner has got ideas and from memory, it will be built for track. im sure we will see more this car in the future

Every Vette fan is talking about how the ZR1 is going to mob the floor with the GTR, but the fact is you cannot compare the two because the ZR1 has far more horsepower where the Z06 is similar to the GTR. I have not even seen both so I will just say I would die to own either one of those beauties.

search ranger z06.. stock z06 running 11.2. better than gtr with perfect launch.. its been proven by motortrend that pre factory GTRS tested all many of the videos were not stock and were actually running "520hp"...they dynoed a gtr having 520 hp...use the same dyno for a z06 and got 466 hp at the wheels.

Remember motortrend was totally speculating on the drivetrain losses and from that stating that GTR maybe producing 500+ horses or more depending on the percentage of drivetrain loss from engine-transmission and finally drive shafts eventually to the wheels.
Nowhere did motortrend said that they actually took the engine out and checked brake horsepower meaning their test lacks specificity and thus results questionable since they're speculating drive train losses. They're NOT engineers

...and look up the Z06, factory spec time 11.7 at 125 mph. Are you saying its impossible to run faster than the manufacturer spec time? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the ZR1 will be turning times faster than 11.2 once it hits public strips. Granted, a majority of owners (just like the Z06) will never come near the factory spec time, but there will be a few that will get substantially bellow it. You can begin your search for such times over at Corvette forum...in the fast list.

Yawn...look it up. Z06, with very skilled drivers, have been cutting low 11's for a while. As far as getting 550 hp from 3.8L, did someone for get to tell you that it has turbos?

think about what a turbo does it will only give power in certain parts of the rev range yet will still get the gtr to 60mph in 3.4secs compared to the zo6's 4secs and i know someone will say he zr1 will do it in rthe same but they keep have to modify it to do that and a gtr will be better on the road and better build quality

Do you even know what a Turbo does? Have you checked how the GTR is geared. Extremely short, that's why it falls on its face past 100(that and its 3800lb curb weight). I'll grant you, up to 100, its a race, but past 100 mph the Z06 will walk on a GTR...all day long. As far as the GTR being better on the road than the ZR1. Doubt it, MRS is a hell of a technology...so much so Ferrari uses it in their 599.

Seriously stop using a turbo system from the 80s, the spool and response on any modern turbo (espeicaly when talking about the system employed by the gtr) is nil unless youre waiting for huge psi numbers to build (which with the gtr, youre not).

More power wins. Thats all. The Vette is a good base to start with, its not obscenely heavy, and the new ones have great power out the box. The new ZR1 coming out is just making it a lot better. I would favor the new GTR but I hate the paddle shift crap! So due to this, I'm on the ZR1's side. Its sad too because I own an '06 Spec-V but I'm on Chevy's side on this one... Go figure.

ZR-1 is only 3 secs better than BASE GTR even after having 6.2 L supercharged engine plus extra 2 cylinders. I cannot wait till other magazines compare base GTR to a ZR-1 on the track since Z06 is history on Buttonwillow. If you wanna straight line drag race, than compare the ZR-1 to a Viper.

well u know the new ZR1 ring time is 7.24. 2nd the 7.29 gtr time was a stock GTR. the stock GTR time is 7.38. 3rd nissans engineers said and i quote "we are hoping and its our goal to have the vpec lap the Nurburgring in under 7.30"

If Z06 CANNOT beat R8 on 4 different tracks, forget even coming close to the GTR. So it makes sense when GTR ran on WET TRACK and still got a 7 min 38 sec time which is ALREADY 4 secs faster than Z06 time.

o.k. i completely agree that from a roll Z06 should pull due to weight advantage and 7.0L displacement and i agreed with u before on that point as well. However, I'm not sure about from a dig, i'll need to c more races.
While street races are fun to watch with all those 1000hp GTRs, but i'm usually cautious cuz my friend lost his limb in a street race. There are plenty of tracks to go racing now, especially California, Arizona, Florida, Texas. If you live in nyc you can goto Jersey now.....

i wouldn't underestimate the Z06 on the tracks either, they're a monster coming out of the turns and by the time the turbo spools in most of the cars on the track Z06 is usually way ahead of em. The only thing thats going against Z06 now is that cheap ass Nissan has decided to bring the GTR back with no 280ps (~300 hp) limitation, that has pretty much started a war of words in Japan, Europe and America about who can one up the other's nurburgring (track unknown to most till last year) time.

This test done by Steve Millen...who on Big Willow could only drive the Z06 1 second faster than a standard Z51...Millen...who was a nissan racer and founder of Stillen a huge after market supplier for nissan. Not to mention old Steve's involvement in the R35 developement. If for nothing else but extreme familiarity with the GTR, Millen's results are hardly reliable. Not to mention his inability to drive rear wheel american cars...well, at least not when getting paid by Road and Track.

Not disputing who Road and Track used for their test, just the reliability of the tester.If you would have read a little bit further, RT also says that they didn't give the drivers a lot of time to familiarize themselves with the cars. Therefore, its a no brainer that Millen is going to turn faster lap times with the GTR (a car that he's been deeply involved with) than the Z06 (a car he's admittedly uncomfortable with). I say let Jim Mero, Johnny O or Henricy turn some laps in the vette.

I doubt it. The zo6 is much quicker than the stock gtr so the extra 130hp of the zr1 should easily beat the vspec. The pre-production gtr was modified as various tests have shown. It ran 11.5 at 125 in the 1/4 mile while the production gtr runs closer to 12-12.2 at only 112. Even the vspec will not come close to the 11.3 @ 130mph the zr1 will do in the 1/4. On the track the zo6 has put up impressive numbers as well (Top Gear, Nurburgring). The zr1 should do the same if not better.

Hmmm, hard to say. The Z-r1 would be more sideways fun i think,lots of power to play with, but most people will wright them off for lack of driving ability. A little moisture on the road is great, but when your spinning it up and wanting to win, it's time for Godzilla to come out & play havoc on the roads with all the BIG BOYS and superchargers :)

yea, i think a c6 zo6 would be a lil much to handle in the rain, let alone the zr1 and thats where the GTR will dominate. but i think comparing the 2 is almost dumb, i just dont see the 2 as rivals...the ZR1 is a super low production, limited run, cheap hypercar. i see the GTR as exactly what Nissan says, the everyday supercar, easy for anyone...but i think with a good driver in both cars, with good conditions, the ZR1 would be faster. i would imagine the ZR1 would toast the gtr after 100mph

define automatic cuz if by automatic transmission you mean a typical automatic where there is interrupted power b/w gears than NO.
If you mean DSG transmission where there is uninterrupted engine power and uninterrupted turbo boost b/w gears via use of 2 clutches than its NOT your typical automatic.

The ZR-1 is gonna be awesome but the bottom line is if you are gonna have 600 hp in a car it needs to be either all wheel drive, or the engine needs to be sitting on top of the drive wheels out back. Otherwise you're just buying tires every six weeks.

The radicals and dankes are road legal cars, and they qualify way above the GTR in this track. He also biased his list by not putting the Zonda F (which beats the GTR) and saying that the Carrera GT was 4 seconds slower than it actually is. The GTR is a fast car but its no way near the record for road legal cars on that track.

Well, I never said it wasn't road legal. But so are many other "things". A radical is closer to a GO KART than a true car. A GTR is the complete package; it has radio, AC, and can be driven to the mountains to ski.
A Zonda is more of a street legal race car, and is no way user friendly. A GTR has the whole package, with supercar-killing performance to boot. The V spec has less commodities... but you can strip even the V spec down until it is a go kart... not very appealing.

Just some corrections there.
You left out the Pagani Zonda F (7:28), The Radical SR3 and SR8 and the Dankevoort.
Also, the Carrera GT has a time of 7:29 and the GT2 has a time of 7:31. The Veyron was never timed on Nurburgring, that 7:40 was speculation made by an australian magazine.

ive gone through all the posts and sick of hearing that this is a "slow" car... bear in mind people that this car was in the country for around a month or less before this was filmed at which time the car was complete STOCK... the owner has got ideas and from memory, it will be built for track. im sure we will see more this car in the future

Every Vette fan is talking about how the ZR1 is going to mob the floor with the GTR, but the fact is you cannot compare the two because the ZR1 has far more horsepower where the Z06 is similar to the GTR. I have not even seen both so I will just say I would die to own either one of those beauties.
