  • They're selling it in a plain sleeve instead?

    Must...resist...Spinal Tap...joke...

  • its a painting what a load of bullshit.

these asshole supermarkets are what leads the way to chav breeding all over britain. Though instead they are promoting hip hop - violence and prostitution and xfactor - talentless wank "artists" thats disposable rubbish, which according to the uk goverment is bad for landfill!

if anything bands like the manics should be promoted everytime!

  • Theres nothing wrong with the album cover , what about that Nirvana one, thats child pronography isnt it?

  • Games with bloodsplats everywhere. I hate those games. BAN THEM!

  • Games with bloodsplats everywhere. I hate those games. BAN THEM!

  • This discussion offends me, can we kick The Wright Stuff off the fucking telly?

  • ♥ MANIC STЯEET PЯEACHEЯS KNOW THEIЯ TЯUTH!! ♥

♥ LOVE TO THE MOST HIGH ♥

♥ ЯICHARD JAMES EDWAЯDS FOЯ ЯEAL FOЯEVEЯ ♥

  • "censorship will stop your excess thought" as they wrote in crucifix kiss... I think that's the supermarkets' game... I bought never mind the bollocks from asda and again (as a present for a friend) from tesco... neither were censored... i think they wanted to make it harder to find some of the best lyrical work richey did as it's too thought provoking

  • @kierangrunge very true my friend, its the government pulling all the strings to try and dumb down the population. they shall never be victorious. ignorance breeds fear, in my opinion. we, as manics fans are NOT ignorant, therego we have no NO FEAR. Long live REAL freedom.

  • mick looks like he could of starred in alien nation.

  • nevermind the bullocks lol

  • Ah! Richey called in. I guess he is living in Oxfordshire now.... Good on him sticking up for his boys cover art! Haha

  • I wonder if the Manics were pleased about a Tory agreeing with their stance :P.

  • What an unfortunate name, Actor Louis Emerick.

  • @NikDonaghy23 lucky he grew up to be an actor!

  • 'steriod mick' from brookie!! talking sense too. wonder what he's upto these days??

  • it's a boy!

  • this is stupid, every comment here is stupid. you are all idiots.

heavy brush strokes? birthmarks? nooo! the child's been smacked a cross the face. let's not kid ourselves or others.

it's nothing to do with money, just someone in Tesco/Asda/etc.. didn't like it so they decided to remove it. you have to tolerate this stuff.

they're not right in just the same way as you're not wrong.

  • @Alexwedo yeah but if we tolerate this....

  • I was glad that the supermarkets censored the album cover. Iit gave Manics fans another cracking collectors item.

  • I bought my Manics cd from Tesco but slipped it inside a copy of Jordan`s Clitoris Exposed in OK Magazine to save any embarrassment .

  • FUCK ASDA < FUCK EM TO HELL. HOPE I GET FIRE FOR THIS!

  • LMAO this is so dumb!

  • Tescos asda sainsbury all corporate cunts. Mass market apocalypse, death sanitised by corporate censorship!!

  • I bet the supermarkets that refused to display this album cover are the same ones that had no qualms about displaying the photos of Richey's "4 Real" cuts...

  • So-you-can-sell-pieces-of-animal-carcass,-and-the-wholesale-objectification-of-women-in-a-supermarket-but-not-an-album-cover!?

  • Another slow news day.....

  • Anyone Notice the presenter passed James's comments about Lucien Freud's brushstrokes off as his own

  • what is the world coming to,that geezer hirst put a dead animal in formaldehyde and its called art. the manics put a FACE on their album sleeve and its deemed offensive.....give me strength...i dont reckon james dean bradfield gives a toss

  • very insulting the cover is very artistic

  • Oh how offensive - a face! I am deeply and utterly offended! Traumatized even! This cover has ruind my life, no doubt about it! I shall never buy anything in your supermarket again.

    Idiots.

  • seems extremely weird to me that the supermarkets chose to censor the 'alleged' violent nature of the cover of this album. unyet if you look at the movie sections, you'll see films like Saw with blood/guts etc all over their covers without any censorship. it's just ludicrous what censors deem to be 'offensive', and 'unoffensive'

  • What about the cover for Countdown to extinction and youthanasia by megadeth?

They are only covers man they work by making people think so by the amount of thinking this cover has got shows how much of a winner it actualy is.

    Well done the Manics

  • I think that's bloody ridiculous. Clearly people are sick and they see what they want to see. Fact is Manic Street Preachers are still making amazing music after all these years and it's not the cover that's important it's the music people want to hear. Outrageous!

  • i agree. i used to work at asda; and these store managers are absolute cretins. who the fuck are they to question the genius of the manics and J. Saville? fuck off!!!

  • The store managers arent the problem, its the stupid people, "the man" at the top who controls it all.

  • Just goes to show how fucking stupid supermarkets are.

I used to unfortunatley work in a Somerfield store and it was the worst job i have ever had.

The managers of these stores at every level are not capable of running a bath let alone a store.

  • that is one hilarious insult!!! Odd....the US is way worse about censorship stuff. You don't see topless chicks in the supermarket stands here...not like europe. what's a supermarket doing selling albums anyway???

  • i hate that he's my namesake!!!

  • Could be worse, your name could be Jeremy Kyle.

  • Well, admittedly, when I first saw the cover, it made me scream a bit (I didn't expect to see it, ok?) but the idea that it needs to be censored is faintly ridiculous. I mean, the people who are going to be offended by this are not likely to be in the popular music section of a supermarket, let alone looking at the cover of a Manics album...

  • the people of britain are being divided into two categories......group 1 are the do-gooders that moan about anything so what if its a painting of a boy with blood on his face? group 2 are the people that dont giv a fuck!

  • Ha aha aha aha ha ha ha !

  • I have to say my local Tesco haven't covered the CD up, although I've bought it just now from HMV.

  • did he just call it never mind the bullocks lol who sandra?

  • Kinda had to considering bollocks is deemed an offensive word. Personally, I'd have called it Here's The Sex Pistols

  • This is hilarious. Is this a comedy programme?

  • lol the fact that supermarkets dont want to show the album cover just makes me love it more, ..pole dancing kits for kids?? wtf

  • It's pathetic that it's even being discussed in such a dreary and immature fashion, and on daytime tv too (throws up). I'm not sure if I buy all this, seems a bit 'publicity stunt' and my conspiracy theory alarm is ringing?

  • It's not even worth discussing, seriously. It just seems so dated. The supermarkets want to put a sleeve over a picture of a child with what looks like a bloodied face, which is almost glorified, or at the very least made to look fairly stylistically beautiful, through the medium of paint, so what? Is it really worthy of debate? I have no problem with it personally, but I also have no problem with it being censcored. Who cares? The album kicks arse with Richeys 'voice' back in centre stage.

  • check out some horror dvd coversor even worse some disney pre teens covers horrific!! : /

  • This is shocking, like everybody is saying, it's so hypocritical coming from supermarkets that stock album covers with half naked sluts etc, porn magazines etc. Its a piece of art,,,,,grow up.

  • I love the fact that Loius has been reduced to "that bloke from Brookside".....I bought the album from Asda due to it being the nearest place I can get it, and have thrown away the outer sleeve so the artwork can be seen as it was meant to be.

  • Check it out! it's Mick Johnson from BROOKSIDE!

    Sound!

    Alright Mick!

  • Bottom line: Saville painted a picture of a child with a facial birthmark (fact), and this is a pathetic mistake on the part of the supermarkets. If one were so inclined, this is discrimination against people with facial birthmarks. Scarcely mentioned.

  • Too right, are these people expect to walk round with masks on so that they don't offend other people?

The only thing in this whole story that is grotesque is the double standards of Tescos who are quite willing to sell Hip Hop albums with bikini clad girls on and all the lad mags yet they have a problem with art.

  • These supermarkets mentioned need to get a fucking grip!, it's just a beautiful piece of artwork.

  • So they censor the cover of this album, unyet at the same time they're perfectly fine not to censor the covers of all the horror films they sell which actually do depict grotesque violence. it's beyond ridiculous, that new album is amazing by the way lol

  • "I loathe courgettes, but I am not offended that they sell them" Genius.

For once a sensible discussion over an insane decision by the Corporate Pigs of the Supermarket world. Deny your culture of consumption.

  • @NickyWiresDyson You are a wanky, pretentious teenage Manic Street Preachers fan and I claim my five pounds.

  • Interesting topic. I'm glad if an album cover is not just about some musicians in black & white standing somewhere looking somewhere. This cover make you think... and that's good.

  • Grotesco

  • Tescos etc are idiots!!

  • Missed this. Cheers for uploading!!. Good to actually see some common sense on TV.
