GFR had a special sound for more then one reason, Mark and Don's Harmonies are just fantastic. A Perfect blend. Also if you listen to GFRs music, what you will hear is, is that Mel leads the note on base and Don follows the note on drums. Mark goes before, after or in the middle of the note, depending on the song, and these three together, make a sound that can't be copied, its a natural thing it. Now nGFR and Mark and ERG, are both good, but neither are like GFR Mark Don and Mel together!!!
This is such good stuff, we used to go see them way back then at the Palace Theater in Port Chester New York fairly often before they went on the word tours..Did the rock the house ? Oh yeh !
What is wrong with these guys - can't they see that the sum of all the parts will always be less than the whole. They will never be as successful individually as they were together.
It sounded funny to me how Mark Farner wasn't playing the high E string. If you replay it and watch at 0:18 you can see the string break and the face he makes. I love how Don can't help but play his drum part despite not having any drums.
Really cool! I never got to see this version before.
Dios quiera que se vuelva a juntar esta banda para el beneplácito de todos sus fans en el mundo

This is just incredible, I never really thought much about the musicianship of Grand Funk before, only knowing them basically from their hits, wow!

I saw GFR with Don Brewer in 2007. At 60 that guy could still rock!

Mark and Don's vocal riffs were such a big part of their soud. Especially those early live shows. They sound so great together.

If Mark is a christain he should NOT hold grudges and forgive the differences.

what can you say?
that is just beautiful harmony.
cant help but be disappointed in both of them that they let their differences prevent their giving such beautiful music to the world
i mean this is world class harmony
and performance lennon&mccartney have nothin' on farner/brewer or brewer/farner dont want to upset either ...

@Jimmers131005, I saw the original GFR at Cobo Hall in Detroit back in 1971 and Don never stopped moving -- he even played air drums between songs!
