I just checked and YES THEY ARE! Go to the Adam's website and check the top of the banner for dealers. They list two in the Philippines. Automobili Detaglia and ANSAN International Ventures Inc. Now I need to go change my last post to you.
Your videos are awesome! They're so enjoyable and are humorous, especially the videos on the track. I have a question. I have a Mini Cooper and was wondering if the polisher machine would burn the stripes if I went over it since I heard that the machines burn of chrome. Also if some parts of the car didn't have any swirls, would I be able to just clay that area and go straight to the wax and skip the polish step? I'm new to this and have learned so much from your videos. Thank you
@FoodaFIISH First off, the PC-7424XP is NOT going to burn anything. That's what rotary polishers do.. Secondly, you should NEVER buff across stripes if they are decals. If they are painted on the car, then you're fine but decals should be masked off with painters tape and avoided with the polisher. Adam's makes an excellent Clear Polish for decals. It is applied by hand.
You can go from clay to wax if there are no swirls but are you sure there are none? Have you done the flash test?
@Junkman2000 Thanks for the reply. Yea I saw that video about the polisher and how you tried abusing it on your corvette :(. Yea the stripe is a decal, so I'll polish it by hand. Yea I'm sure there aren't any swirls other than on the stripes and on the arches of the car. Currently I don't have any products whatsoever because I'm still deciding which brand is good for the job, Adams maybe? ;)
I don't see how you can question if Adam's will work for you after seeing my videos. Add to that, you can use my discount code to receive 10% off your order and the choice is a no brainer. If I can fix that car with this stuff, your car will be a cake walk.
You never answered my question about the flash test. Did you do that to your car and what was the results?
@Junkman2000 Yeah I always check my car for swirls. I use the sunlight and get my face really close to the car at an angle and go slowly to the side to see any swirls. There's maybe one or two swirls here and there, but not too many other than the other places that I mentioned. The car is about a year old, so it's fairly new. I'll check the forum and check out the products :) thanks.
Question: Since you went directly from washing to the clay bar, there was no need to dry it. However, what do you suggest for drying a car when you are going to? Any certain product or method to this to reduce marking up your paint?
Great question! I have a video coming up that addresses your question directly. The rule is, "the less you touch the paint, the better it is for the paint."
I "pool" the water after my final rinse in order to knock off the bulk of the water and then use a leaf blower to blow the remaining water off the car. What's left can be easily removed by dabbing 1 face cloth sized microfiber towel.
Actually, I have been an instructor before. I taught small arms courses in the Marines and taught computer courses as a civilian. Same style of teaching, only it wasn't in my garage! lol!
@Junkman2000 I see they sell the Pc7424 at Lowes here. I just wish they would sell the pads with them.I have seen a couple on Ebay too, but never with Pads.
BTW, I think your user ID should be"ClassicColors", instead of Junkman. It doesnt surprise me at all, youve been a teacher! You are a Natural at it! Professor , of high Polish.
Easy. Your You Tube account allows us to send messages to each other. Just send one to me. Or, register at Adam's Forums and you can PM me the pictures.
@Vstar4me ok, I think from watching all your videos, I will havta to wet sand, and when you used the Pc with sanding disk it looked like the easier route,
By the way you are at great teaching, as you do follow up and always recap what you are teaching, not everyone knows that is quite important! "Boys and Girls Ha!
Of course, there is no way that I can advise you without seeing the car in person. I have, however, seen extreme cases where wet sanding was the only way to remove the damage. I do not in anyway suggest that this is something you should try, just letting you know that your situation may require professional intervention. You should have it looked at by a professional who can give you an evaluation on the spot at no cost to you. Or, you can bring it by my garage in Kentucky!
No, wet sanding is using water and sandpaper. I did do a very light video on the subject but you would have to send me an email for the link because you can't post links here.
GET REAL, I work in the textile industry and know that all fabric is made in China! The US plants shut down along with the cotton plantations 100 years ago! That "Adam's Microfibre" thing being peddled may be cut into a square in the U.S., but the fabric is MADE IN CHINA!!!... (or Pakistan)... Only Bill Gates can buy ALL AMERICAN! I'm not rich enough to pay an American to spin cotton to make thread to sew up a $500 microfibre cloth! GET REAL! Americans make jets, not underwear, duh!
Way to show your ignorance. At least do some research before spouting off your incorrect rant. Adam's MF towels are made in Korea, where all the high caliber MF towels are made. Adam's products are manufactured in the USA.
You have now been informed. Don't hurt yourself with all that knowledge.
"short's"??, "video's"??? rofl!!! take some time to complete grade 12 english class before mouthing off. but if you did finish grade 12, you might also have realized that Korea is not part of the U.S. any more than China!
Never attended the Ford Nationals. Sounds like a good time. About that Microfiber Duster I won't be using it anymore. Could not determine it was made in China. It was a Griots product.
What 's the proper way to use the California Car Duster? I would guess in 1 direction only and no pressure. This is great talking to someone who really knows his stuff.
Have or do you use a California Car Duster? It claims the dirtier it gets the better it works. Your thoughts? I have had mine for long...long time. I also have a exterior Microfiber Duster as well. Not really like that one as much.
I like the California Duster and have two of them. They get a bad rap because people scratch their cars up using them incorrectly. If people used them right, they wouldn't scratch up their cars.
That microfiber thing on the other hand is garbage. I'd toss it if I were you. I bet it says, "Made in China."
Thanks for introducing the grit guards and the quick release system for the hose...da...never even crossed my mind. Like you said, like on your air tools. Like you, I am obsessed with keeping my cars clean and detailed. I had my 98 Stang GT published in 5.0 Mustang and took home a 2nd place trophy with my 04 Lightning last year. BTW, nice Vette. I just came across you vidoes a couple hours ago.
Do you ever attend the Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA? I'll be there next year showing all of my detailing techniques. It's a sweet show with lots of nice Fords. If you're close, you should check it out.
Hey Junkman- You got that right about someone not being able to afford your services. I do it for fun myself. Trust me, keeping 2 cars looking good is enough for me. BTW, awesome write-up and footage.
Thanks a lot for your video series, My paint is pretty swirled on my daily driver (i'd say in similar shape to yours)
I'm going to order the PC and probably the adam's kit that includes all the stuff you showed since that is everything i could need.
My car is a 96, so the paint is about 14 years old now, but it still is in good shape except for some swirls and minor scratches from neglect. I'm hoping this stuff can bring it back.
Hey Junkman. My paint is in bad shape too with swirls and scratches. I actually took it to someone today before watching your videos and they are fixing two areas where the clearcoat is pealing. Also, I told them to buff ( correct term? ) the car while they were at it and the owner said that a wet sand was included. My current car isnt in very good shape but I want to treat my next care well. I just wanted to know if Im correct with these steps?
If you have clear coat missing from the car (or peeling), the words repaint and clear coat should be in there somewhere. If what they are doing is trying to minimize the damage without actually fixing it, then wet sanding is going to be the first step.
Are they actually going to remove the swirls and scratches or are they just going to fill them up with glaze? Like I said in my videos, most detail shops are not going to go through the trouble I went through to actually remove the swirls.
It was two areas with the clear coat peeling. One area was about 2x1/2in long while the other was about 7x2in long. He said he was going to wet sand it and re-clear coat the area. Idk if they were going to remove the swirls/scratches or fill them up w/glaze. I just asked for a buff and showed him some quite heavy swirl marks and he said wet sanding was included in the buffing package. Also the steps I posted above was just asking generally what to do to a car not my situation specifically.
Okay, you steps listed are solid in general. I'd be interested in seeing someone clear coat an "area". Usually, the whole panel gets clear coated. Paint can be shot in a area.
Since I didn't talk to him, I really can't say if what he's doing is good. One or two words change the meaning of a conversation completely. I guess we'll know when he gets done. I'd like to see what it looks like when completed.
What do you think about the new Porter Cable 7424 XP that's coming out in late may? Should I buy this or the Flex xc 3401 polisher? I can get the new porter cable 7424 XP polisher for $110
These are two totally different polishers. If you have to ask then that's a sure fire sign that you need to buy the PC. I have heard some of the new features that the new PC is coming out with but I really haven't seen anything to get all giddy about. The old PC will more than work wonders for a novice user. You've seen the videos, they speak for themselves.
Until you master the PC, you do not want to be fooling around with the Flex.
Thanks for the great advice. I was under the assumption that the Flex was as safe as the Porter Cable, because both are non rotary polishers that will not burn your paint, but the difference in the two would be the Flex is more powerful, which in essence would cut down on the amount of time it takes to do corrective paint work on a vehicle.
The Flex is safer than a rotary. It is a dual action polisher just like the PC (which is what makes both a safer option than a rotary), however, the Flex has what we call "forced rotation". Unlike the PC, you cannot bog down the rotation of the Flex. Thus, if you hold the Flex in one spot or pause on a edge to long, you can either burn the paint somewhat or remove paint off any edge of the car.
The way that the PC is designed keeps it from being a threat in the hands of a novice user.
Thanks! I've been doing a lot of research on car detailing within the last month or two. I've checkout several detailing websites, You Tube and car detailing forums to find out the proper techniques, products and equipment to get the desired results. When I came across your car detailing instruction videos I knew about 85% of the info you gave, but the other 15% now gives me the confidence to apply all the info. Although, I still have a lot to learn I'm now ready to take on the challenge.
Be sure and join us over at Adam's Forums. There's always something to learn as you continually improve your process. Introduce yourself and join the crowd!
Most shops are going to fill the swirls with glaze and send your car out the door. What you saw me do in the videos is not a cost effective way to remove swirls for detail shops because it takes much longer. Most are not trying to do it right.
How much are they charging for this and on what kind of car? How long did they say the process will take? Make sure you answer all these questions when you reply.
Quick question.. my car is swirl city. But my friend just buffed and polished it less than a year ago. What would cause it to swirl up so fast? Or is that normal?
Heck no, that is not normal! You are totally washing the car wrong! Have you watched all of the videos in this series? They totally address the issue you are having.
I just got done watching them in order. I wasn't doing the 2 bucket system. I was doing the traditional 1 bucket, in and out. I think that's my problem.
I'm not using a soft mitt, either. I'm using brush on a long stick. It's meant for washing cars though. Purchased at Autozone. It's a soft bristle brush, but not nearly as soft as a mitt. Could this be an issue?
Man, are you ever wrong! That supposedly "soft bristle" brush is tearing at your paint like sandpaper! There is not a brush on planet earth that won't scratch up your car. Period.
Secondly, there is not to much crap out of Auto Zone, Pep Boys or any other auto store like that which has anything that you want to use on your paint. What you saw in those videos was paint care to a much higher degree than most detailers do.
Come see me at Adam's Forums. Look up Junkman2008. You will learn a ton!
There's a lot of text that is associated with these videos that you are missing. The videos by themselves are okay, but without the accompanying info, you miss lot of important data. Join Adam's Forums and get the whole picture so that you can get the missing important info.
Yo Junkman, I have to say that his was and has been a very informative series. I am looking at getting a PC just haven't pulled the trigger! You have presented some GREAT information and at a level that most can understand. Understanding is the most important part. One another note, your vids at the track, when was that? What event? Do you live in GA? You need to take that Vette to Road Atl and stretch its legs there!
The Atlanta videos are from the Corvettes Against Breast Cancer Fund Raiser. It happens every year at AMS in October. A big Corvette parade and show follows the track event. Do a search for CABC and you'll find the info. I'm in Kentucky so it's a road trip for me. I'll be there this fall!
you stated that you did not do this for a living, just wondering, what would someone charge to do everything that you showed? I could do this myself but would hate the thought of paying someone to do this...or maybe i am in the wrong business!
I don't know about people in the business because you can only get what the public is willing to pay. I know that I would not touch a car and perform this for less than a thousand. I would also need a week to do it too. Not because it takes that long, I'm just slow and I get lazy at times!
Junkman, Thanks for posting these vids, they were awesome! I learned more watching your 10 videos, than I did researching other websites on the internet for one week. You're a great presenter! You need to be on tv.
I'm gonna go out and buy the Adams products and attempt to polish out the swirls from my car. Do you know where I can get Adams products in Vancouver, BC, Canada?
Also, instead of using the PC, would a less expensive Simoniz 10" orbital work to polish out the swirls?
If I did this for a living, the rotary wouldn't help. I just couldn't do a rush job. I might only get 1 car out every 3-4 days, but I would probably charge $1000 a car. I would take my time and do it the orbital way. No holograms in the paint when you use a orbital, and I've seen the so called "experts" leave holograms with a rotary.
In fact, I've never seen a rotary not leave holograms. I you wash it, they usually start showing up after the 3rd or 4th wash.

BlobbyBowdenGeezer 2 years ago
Not a Florida State fan I see... lol!
Heck no, that is not normal! You are totally washing the car wrong! Have you watched all of the videos in this series? They totally address the issue you are having.
Junkman2000 2 years ago
Nope, Florida Gator!
BlobbyBowdenGeezer 2 years ago
Man, are you ever wrong! That supposedly "soft bristle" brush is tearing at your paint like sandpaper! There is not a brush on planet earth that won't scratch up your car. Period.
Secondly, there is not to much crap out of Auto Zone, Pep Boys or any other auto store like that which has anything that you want to use on your paint. What you saw in those videos was paint care to a much higher degree than most detailers do.
Come see me at Adam's Forums. Look up Junkman2008. You will learn a ton!

I'll check out Adam's Forums. Thanks for your time.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Chop!
Junkman2000 2 years ago
you stated that you did not do this for a living, just wondering, what would someone charge to do everything that you showed? I could do this myself but would hate the thought of paying someone to do this...or maybe i am in the wrong business!
porkchop659 2 years ago
I don't know about people in the business because you can only get what the public is willing to pay. I know that I would not touch a car and perform this for less than a thousand. I would also need a week to do it too. Not because it takes that long, I'm just slow and I get lazy at times!
Junkman2000 2 years ago
LOL!
Just remember that you are not slow and lazy, it's wise and cautious!

Also, instead of using the PC, would a less expensive Simoniz 10" orbital work to polish out the swirls?
wgdE46 2 years ago
The only place that I know of that you can get Adam's products is from their website. Google their address as You Tube doesn't allow links.
As for the polisher, I know nothing of that model. I however, wouldn't chance it if you want the results that you saw me obtain.

I'll be working on them after next week. I'm getting ready for the C5/C6 bash at the Corvette plant this week.

If you did it for a living, you would need to step up to a rotary.
All I need now is the elusive Part 9
Boodieman72 2 years ago
It's up there.
Junkman2000 2 years ago
It takes 1-2 days with a rotary for a full on correction. If you do it correctly you don't get holograms with a rotary. If you do it poorly you will.
I guess you haven't seen quality work with a rotary then. Wool pads leave holograms, but you would never just use a wool pad.

I think that airplane in the background should be your next detail video! Great series AJ! - Jason

I can't complain. The UPS hub is right here in Louisville so I get my deliveries from Adam's pretty darn quick!
Junkman2000 2 years ago
Could the UPS airplanes be any louder as they're coming in?
