Great video and I have always been a fan of Cher since I was 11 and then later became a Rita Coolidge fan too just because she & Cher did somewhat resemble one another back in the 70's..both had the long straight black hair. To also set the record straight. Cher is Armenian from her dad's side (hince her last name, Sarkisian) and is Cherokee/French from her mom's side... Rita is Cherokee/Scottish. Her mom is Scottish and her dad is Cherokee (a Cherokee minister)...

I once saw an interview with Cher talking about her heritage. She said she is French (LaPierre? is her maiden name and Armenian. Then she said the Cherokee was played up for publicity because everyone was getting in on the Indian bandwagon in the '60's. (at that time I remember articles even calling her full blood). But she then added that she may have some Cherokee in her. That is a long way from being a member and being on the rolls. But don't get me wrong, I love her!

That's not true! Cher is Armenian, French Nation, and Cherokee. In her A&E biography, she stated that she hated being dark, and that when she was born she looked most like her grandmother who was the Indian. If she was lying about being part Cherokee, she wouldn't be able to look the part that well. She had very tan skin, she had long black Indian textured hair. Nobody lies about there heritage for publicity! That's like saying I was born and raised in England, but I don't have an English accent

luchalloyd, you are making the mistake many do in thinking in stereotypes perpetuated by old movies. I am half Cherokee (my mother) and half Irish (my father), but if you were look at me, you would see no trace of the "stereo-typical" dark skinned, black haired Western movie "Indian". That image comes more from western tribes. You cant go by looks; and the dark look you refer to also fits certain Armenian and French looks. (My mother, full blood Cherokee, is often mistaken for French).

I listed my mom's first because I was raised by my mom and her side of the family, so have always felt closer related to that side of my heritage - also, traditional eastern band Cherokee tend to be Matrifocal in nature. My biological father has never been in the picture (even though I definitely got a lot of his physical characteristics, according to my mom).

If you believe some of the things they say about rock history, RIta dated both Stephen Stills and Graham Nash. When she left Stlls for Nash that led to CSNY's first break-up in 1970, Crosby then wrote the song "Cowboy Movie"- Rita is supposedly the "sweet little Indian girl" in that song.
