@GeorgeGrover You should hear Ann Blyth, who played her daughter, Veda, in Mildred Pierced, talk about how beautiful she was and blue her eyes were. Too bad there aren't more color photos of her when she was young!!
Her 1930s and early 1940s pics are really pretty -- prior to the latter days, and all that weird over-done BRICK-LIKE-MAKEUP, which aimed to alter her features that had already taken on the look -- despite her assiduous facial treatments and care to countermand the effects of alcohol over-taxing her liver -- of hardness for which she is most remembered -- the 1880s, 1890s and re-emergence, late 1940s thick eyebrows (as reaffirmed in the late 1970s and reaching its heyday in the 1980s), sunk her
when joans contract was sold to columbia, harry cohn (columbias head and notorious for bedding "his" girls) called joan in for a "meeting". joan walked in and said "put your dick back in your pants harry, youre married and were here to talk business". LOVE that story AND it worked, harry admired her guts and gave her good roles...what a WOMAN!...her and bette davis were great in whatever happened to baby jane; that "rat on a platter" scene is PRICELESS!
the funny thing is about the whole "Mommie Dearest" situation,is the two people who hated joan are some of the only people who said "yes this is true" when, people like Jack carson,Barbara Stanwyck,Ann Blyth,Marlene Dietrich,Myrna Loy, Cesar Romero etc. said the book was completely not true
Stunning. I read that Garbo was rather taken with her when she first saw her when they did Grand Hotel together. They never had any scenes together and Garbo regretted it.
Unfortunately nowadays, mention Joan Crawford and most people think "Mommie Dearest" or "Wire coat hangers!!" She was a fine actress, and an amazingly beautiful woman. Her bone structure, those eyes, and her mouth were all just made for the camera. Joan in the 30's was on a par with Garbo and Dietrich as female beauty personified. This was a wonderful video.
@TNviewer01 For more Joan Crawford check out 'Movie Legends - Joan Crawford (Reprise)', 'Joan Crawford - Fashion', 'Joan Crawford - Style', and 'Joan Crawford - Showgirl'.
@TNviewer01 @ 0:35 she's gorgeous. Why would anyone pile the make up on as we saw in her latter years. It always seemed to me that she forgot where her eyebrows were and eventually was one step away from a uni-brow! I always wondered why she couldn't keep from going out of the lines on her lips! They were just fine the way God put 'em on there in the first place! Go figure...
THANK YOU !!! Joan in the early 30's was the most amazing looking woman of her age those EYES, and EYESBROWS, not the thick brows of her latter face but the classic 30's high arch, her full lips, her FASHION, just look at Joan in Letty Lyton, the most iconic woman the 1930's, how sad that most people now day think of her as "mommie dearest" with her "later" face of the late 40's and 50's,......but this is the Joan I love, in the Zenith of her youth, young, and living live in the early 1930's
kevbear45: YESSS! I so agree with u & you said it so well - Crawford was most beautiful in the 30's when those eyes stood out alone - before the heavy eyebrows & over-lined lips & padded shoulders took over making her appear rather hard & tough.
the 30s is my favorite Hollywood era, the real Golden Age, and if anybody epitomized 30s Hollywood its Joan Crawford. i love her at this age, in these settings, this style, these films. Ahhh, just wonderful, really the perfect foil for the Divine Garbo, who was Hollywoods queen in those years, and Norma Shearer, who was MGMs queen. All three of them being at the same studio really brought out the best in each other and the filmakers working with them.
wow that black and white sequine halter top dress is amazing! and the poses she has are so fashion forward, she's doing the slouch which is only in now!
This and the Ann Blyth tribute do so much to put the other business out of mind. Joan was a timeless beauty, a talented actress, and a self-made woman of uncommon intelligence and grace.
What a pleasure to she her getting a little of herself back.
Thanks again. I can't quite stop watching your touching tribute. ;-)
This woman has got to have the most beautiful eyes ever!

she has the greatest body of work of any actress
filling the screen, and still photos with every nuance of the human experience
theres nothing she didnt do
and nobody who did it quite like she did
