Merci eradesso ! Mmmm???
When i first heard Cristina in the early 1970's I loved her so much. This is a reminder of a bygone era when we had stunning sopranos who each had their own trademarks and were instantly identifiable BRAVA !!!!!!
your message and your username reminds me of something that shocked me recently here on youtube.. i was dealing with some silly Bartoli groupie who claimed to know everything about opera and being a great judge...... and turns out she didn't even know who Beverly Sills is.....can you believe that?!
Miss the days when fame was based on talent and not on money spent on marketing by labels.. luckily there are still many connaisseurs around here!
Amen to that!! Sadly talent is singularly lacking today and even sadder is the fact that the public accepts the "below mediocre" standard of singing without blinking! Thank s again for for upload of our beloved Cristina!
And what I find annoying is your comment. But I suppose that, as people age, they develop nostalgia for the good, old days. But why not to think that aesthetic standards have changed over the time (luckily !) and have nothing to do with lack of talent ?
I'm not sure what that has to do with what he said. Today talented singers are missing. That is a fact. They study one or two years and ready to debut at the Met - given they are pretty and backed up by a big label.
I don't care to have a pretty Salome, I want someone who can sing Salome's score. Because we're talking Opera not Miss Universe contest.
And I find YOUR comment even more annoying. There is absolutely N O one singing today who can hold a candle to the likes of the talented singers we had in the 70'9s. Just for the record , age has nothing to do with appreciating talent , but of course if you are lacking in good taste, then today's lost cause singers will appeal to the simple minded masses. Did I see that ill behaved, addled minded, lacklustre, Amy Winehouse amongst YOUR favourites? I rest my case.
I disagree with what you said about there being absolutely NO ONE singing today etc etc...Mariella Devia is still singing and I think only Sutherland really had her technical prowess before or after.
Also, there are loads of amazing Baroque singers nowadays and they definitely lacked in the 70s considering Baroque was just an obscure repertoire then.
If you look at my favourites I'm sure you may find pop singers too. That only says about the diversity of my taste not its credibility ;)
Would you forgive me if I disagreed with you? There might well be "amazing" Baroque singers running around today but we are not discussing them at the moment. You agree with petelovesbevsills and then disagree with me, am I missing something here? to quote,
"Miss the days when fame was based on talent and not on money spent on marketing by labels.. luckily there are still many connaisseurs around here! "
The point you're missing is that I do agree that generally speaking the schooling and style of nowadays singers' can't be compared with those from the old days. GENERALLY SPEAKING.
It is a whole different story to say, as you did and as I disagreed with, that basically nowadays there is NO singer worth listening to. With that I strongly disagree.
In my opinion, you are considering Amy Winehouse in a operatic way. Admittedly she doesn't have neither an operatic voice, nor the technique, but she doesn't claim to sing opera. Because she can't sustain a high note, she is lacklustre ? I like her voice and some songs of her. (Concerning her behaviour, I must admit that I don't read the gossip press.)
Can we define a "good taste" that discriminate between very different domains of music ?
Any person who bounces onto this site and proceeds to criticise others who have good taste in operatic music deserve to be brought down a peg or two. You are not excluded here. You inform petelovesbevsills that he annoys you, why? who are you to say whether he is right or wrong? If you want to post comments then you must expect responses. As for Amy Winehouse, who cares about her? Thank goodness she is NOT an opera singer because her behaviour would put the world off opera forever.
It's horrible look down on people who listen to other genres solely because you listen to Opera even though I personally think Opera, unlike any other genres, is a form of ART and can be considered the only form of "singing" by a musical point of view. That said, I would never diminish a Whinehouse fan as much as I wouldn't like someone to diminish my love for Opera.
I am entitled to diminish a Netrebko or Bartoli or Bocelli fan because THOSE are imposters.
It is even more horrible to say that people who make statements about how singers were recognisable by their voices and styles is" annoying" too. You are entitled to diminish whoever you like but then is it OK for me to do the same thing or is it only you that has the supreme right? By the way I am not looking down on people who like that woman, I am using the fact that they FAVOURITE her as a yardstick of exceptionally bad taste, in opera or any other kind of music.
The supreme right is that I state a fact whereas you saying no one can sing today is, to put it in easy words for you, disillusional bullshit.
If you can't distinguish a fact from a personal opinion then I'm not surprised you can't recognize the many good and recognisable singers on today's scene.
No, people that have good taste in singing expect that exceptionally high standard to continue and maybe even be bettered. With the rubbish that sings these days, there is absolutely no chance of that ever happening. The standard will continue to spiral at the speed of light and people like you will continue to applaud, worship and adulate them. Encouraging even lower standards, if that is possible.
which orchestra? it's doing a great job accompanying!

Anybody familiar with the libretto?
The only line I can make out is "Wie eine Vogel kann dich singen singen singen..." or something like that.I couldn't find it anywhere. :-/
No need to mention that Cristina is wonderful because it's her standard.
