  • i just started watching Rodger's videos today, but later on when i found out his passed away i started to realy tear up which shows you how when someone passes on to the other side that you never knew can have such an impact on someone

R.I.P. Rodger Swan 1986-2010 You will always be Remembered

  • In the end, there is something we can do.

We can try to be as positive and enjoy life like him.

If we saw him smile and people received enjoyment from it, we should try to learn from that and make the world less miserable and a richer, more beautiful place.

That's what I feel in my heart that should matter.

Long live the memory of good people and let's hope we let their kindness has a positive effect our life.

  • I was walking to the store today when for some reason Rodger popped up in my head. I had not watched his videos in such a long time so i was looking forward to it. I Never thought I would be this saddened from a death of a person I never knew. His videos were great and I felt like Rodger just loved life and because he was so happy, even if it was for a few minutes , he made his viewers smile. Its so Inspirational to see a person live out his dream. I will never forget Rodger Swan. ご冥福を祈ります。rip

  • This video almost made a 6'6 300 pounder cry Wow It was just all of a sudden. I had to stop the video at 0:09 before I started to get really sad.

  • Thanks for uploading this tribute.

  • R.I.P to soon .

  • Thanks for the vid Dave, I watched it when you made it before, but I just watched it again and I think that through out all the tribute vids that were made for him I have to say this one made me feel the best about this whole stupid fuckin situation. You stay black buddy.

  • @TkyoSam thanks! it was a video I wished I nor anyone else had to make but I wanted to comment on the impact Rodger had before and still has. stay black, stay strong

  • R.I.P Rodger Swan

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh shit,i have been hardly been hardly coming on this, that is messed up,he will be missed, his videos were amazingly helpful and entertaining, what a waste of a short life!!!!

  • this is bullshit!! i can't believe he is gone. It doesn't make any sense. He was so younge. I thought for sure he was changing the way people vlogged about life in Japan. He was so detailed in his videos. I'm sad and angry he has passed away. Sad he is gone and angry that the world will not get to see the quality of videos this great person made. It's not fair that Rodger had to be taken from us.

  • I miss you swan!! you were truely great. you were taken to soon, and you had a very bright future!

    R.I.P SWAN

  • RoninDave - Thanks so much for this video. Your thoughts have helped me put my own grief into perspective.

RIP to Rodger and my condolences to all who were touched by his life.

  • I followed him from the start. and Rodger was a very special guy.

RIP roger. you will live on in our minds.

  • excellent video RoninDave, very powerful stuff... RIP Rodger Swan, you will not be forgotten...

  • believe me this kind of video I would rather not have had to make if possible ie that Rodger never had to die but we can't change the past or fates. We have to play the hand were dealt. I just hope I was able to get across why Rodger was so special.

  • R.I.P. i'm gonna miss your videos and your cheerfulness.

  • Hello, Dave! Hope you be good today! First, thank you for sharing with us your tribute to Rodger! I didnt know him personaly, and I was completely apart from the existence of his videos, until the day I saw the IWATE SWAN 22: SNOW COUNTRY... But I can tell you, I felt in a really short space of time, the charisma, the goodness and the peace of this guy... And what he could represent to so many people! ...

  • (cont.) I am feeling at the moment, like I am losing someone of my own family! The emptyness I am feeling is bigger than my fear of even thinking of what his family is passing right now! All I want to do is to respect his passions and try to, as you said, make this world little bit better than when I got here!! I guess now it is our turn to say " See You Next Time, Rodger " ---- From this brazilian who loved his passion!

  • good comments! I feel many people who never heard of rodger until Tokyocooney's video went to his channel and found a really honest to goodness nice guy and were suddenly sadden to realize that he was now gone.

  • I was curious about acute pancreatitis so i asked a nursing student she said by having acute in the title it means it can happen like that i dont think it was like he had anything build up in his body i think how i undersood it , It was like turning on a light switch his body flicked the wrong switch and it instantly hit him one of the possible causes could be he had diabetes which he was unaware of but of course thats assuming it runs in the family of course there could be other factors

  • I agree with everything you said here. It was because of Rodger's positive personality that had drawn me into his videos and his life. Now that I think about it, I think the reason why Rodger was here on earth was to touch the lives of many people. After he had done that, it was time for him to go unfortunately. He had touched and impacted my life quite a bit and it made me cry after hearing about his death. He tought me to enjoy life to fullest and appriciate what's around us. Thanks for this!

  • In certain Buddhist beliefs someone like Rodger might be considered a kind of Bodhisattva, that is a spirit which forsakes Nirvana and seeks to help and enlighten others.

  • R.I.P. Rodger. Also, acute pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas. We'll miss Rodger.

  • WOW, what a shocker! I watched his vlogs and was a subscriber. That is very sad he passed so young. Thanks for doing a tribute to him.

    Stay healthy.

    Dan in Tennessee

  • yeah, his death hit the community hard. I think more than a few people didn't want to make any videos for a while but that's not what Rodger would have wanted. But spread the word to who you can and tell them to look at his vids. I'm sure they'll be an instant fan

  • that was very well done.

can you do me a favor...if it is ok with you, i would like to sub to your channel?

also.i rarely,(i mean rarely)do i ever meet north americans outside of north america.if i ever c u in japan...it would be my pleasure to have a beer with u.

  • be my guest and I'm always up for a beer

  • Thanks for taking time making a great tribute and posting news on the internet and stuff RoninDave.

As a lond term fan of Rodger, I think you expressed beautifully what we all felt about him. And I feel terrible that I actually couldn't thank him fully while he was alive.

We should really appriciate everyday life as much as we can.

    RIP Rodger

  • That was powerful man.Rodger will always be with us in our minds and in our hearts. Thanks for the video man....

  • this video made me warm inside. I didn't know about Roger before the tragic event, but I feel like I've been connecting with him through his videos.

  • I think this was one of the most eloquently put videos. Thanks for sharing.

  • thanks, that means alot. I was worried I would come off as melodramatic and fake which is the last thing I want to do when talking about a genuine guy like Rodger.

You and sam are among those JVloggers who knew him best. You were his guru and sam his rival and buddy. I'm just glad that I did get the chance to meet him and I regret not knowing him better. You & sam are very lucky in being close to him despite the pain it brings now.

Why can't it all just be a joke or a dream? I want to wake up

  • RIP Rodger

  • I must abandon myself to lasting grief.

How greatly I felt encouraged by his cheering videos! A young man with future abruptly died of acute pancreatities in a

foreign country! I'm a wearily tottering old Japanese, who should have stepped into his shoes for him. I must use the German philosopher's words; God is dead (Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche).

Please rest in peace now, Rodger.

Many thanks for letting us know about his

    demise without a prolonged delay.

  • The crazy fuckin' thing is that I was in Yoyogi Park for the 2008 Hanami. I went looking for the YouTube Hanami blue tarps but could not find y'all. If it was the same place as 2009 I walked right by. Barely missed meeting him.

  • that does sucks but also what sucks is I met him at that penis festival and when I checked thru my video files I found I didn't have any footage of him! I was so pissed off at myself for missing an opportunity.

I hope others out there that have vintage swan unseen as of yet on old tapes and hard drives will dig those out and share them.

  • It kills me man. I never knew the guy but we did have some chats on the dreamcast and other topics from time to time. I had no clue in till I notice he had not posted up anything today. A Legend indeed and will never be forgotten. I hate that it went this way for 2010 start. He just got his Sega Saturn to. But we will see him again.

  • Still in shock. You will be missed Rodger

  • rip roger

  • Well said and heart felt! Long live Rodger's memory! A great guy that will forever remand in out hearts!

  • indeed! I don't think anyone will argue with me when I say Rodger was the best of us.

  • If anyone would argue about Rodger on negative terms, then they are a idiot! This has got to be number one on the list of random things you did not see coming for 2010. I'm going to get on the dreamcast and play some games in his loss. I'll be sure to take a beer down for him to. Great vid man. It's always great to see people show respect to good people.

  • Nicely done, man.

  • beautiful man, well said. Exactly, live life, live life to the fullest. It's really not fair such a great guy is gone...

  • great video i know rodger would like it to

  • good work, Dave.

  • "I wish I knew what it was so I could find it...and kick its ass.." - Great line.

  • acute pancreatitis better watch its acute ass. There's a lot of people right now that want to give it a proper beat down.

  • That was a very heart felt video and a great message that Rodger would be in total agreement with.

  • Amazing video, shed me a tear again -- I miss him greatly =(

    Thank you for making this.

  • R.I.P rodger

  • great video...rip rodger

  • a very beautiful video sir, a memorial video indeed worthy his memory, thank you

  • making a memorial to Rodger is easy because you don't have to embellish anything and just tell it like it is. The hard thing is doing it without breaking down into tears

  • i can understand that, and i am really sorry for youre loss,

  • It's not just my loss, it's everyone's. I only met him twice and trade some emails with him but I miss him. The people who knew him well are really torn up and my sympathies go out to them.
