My stats: Some gaming, web surfing, youtube,ipod etc. Just al lot of messaging and checking the weather, news etc. In use: 10 -12 hours standby: 1,5 day screen brightness : 50 % auto ! 3g on wifi on bleutooth off Location services for apps you dont use: OFF system location services: timezone OFF, iads OFF (these two save a lot of battery juice) When you re battery is fully charged, leave it 2 hours on the charger, it works Let me know if this helped you ;)

but i dont get it,.. i noticed my phone 4, on 4.2.1 jailbroken and unlock,..
drains about 3-4% per hour.. while it was said that it can last for 300 hrs on standby, i tried it on airplane mode but still drains 3% per hour, computing the numbers, you should only drain 1% per 3 hours and not the other way around.. any body else having this issue?

I had recently upgrade to a iphone4. I did have the iPhone3g not the iPhone 3GS. It seems a lot better. I'm always in 3G on the new iPhone 4 and I will play games text and talk through out the day and by the time I go to bed around 4 or 5am I would still have around 20% left so that's a really big upgrade for me.
The battery life is the same with iPhone 3GS..I mean they added a new retina display a better camera and whole new features..that's why they added a longer battery life..if the came up with the same battery as the 3GS the bat. Life it would be less than 4 hours
thats why i got the iphone touch because i rather have all the music,games,apps on one thing and my main phone,appointments,notes on another.if my itouch dies on me ill live but its a different story when your phone dies when u always have to be in contact through text and phone calls but then again blackberry does not have all the cool features and but i got do almost everything with a bb and have longer bettery life

My iPhone 4s battery life is pretty damn good. The trick to it is disable 3G and keep it on EDGE and your battery life will be increased. My battery life has given me up to 12 hours of just texting, facebooking, and listening to music.
@mamz21 yes it really helps. you will miss 3G if you stream videos, but for texting and facebooking and surfing simple websites EDGE is good enough and fast for me. tell you what, try it out and report back to me if it helped you out or not. I'll tell you another secret for increasing battery life.
I do know about it and that if you get your iphone4 and let apple sync it up before you sync it up to your computer you get great life i got 9 in a half hours full bightness on 3g and on bluetooth and i was listing all the things you should do i was listing the main problems you ahole so if you dont know me dont say stupid ass shit loser
if you get bad battery its the apps, take it to apple and ask them to run a test they should tell you what apps crashed and you can get then to restart the phone all over again dont keep junk on your phone that you dont need

I got 4 hours and 28 minutes of alot of usage for me checking mail over 3g bout 20 mins on youtube and possibly an hour of safari all over 3g brightness on 50% took a couple pics with flash and exactly 6 hours and 50 mins standby time also like 10 mins of playstation emulator game final fantasy tactics and a but of skype possibly around 20 mins alltogether exactly 49% battery life im am extremly satisfied :)
my iphone 4's battery life is pretty much like you... i have 3 emails account to push, some apps that pushes informations (not all), bluetooth is off all the time, wifi on and 3G on (but on wifi all the time), and even if I don't really use it, the battery goes down fast... Bluetooth and 3G are battery killers... At the end of the day the battery is at like 30%-15%... the battery life is acceptable...
Turning off 3G easily doubles the battery life when making calls. Since the sound quality is pretty much the same, I don't see the point in making calls with 3G on.
With data though, the slowness of Edge will counteract the lower power usage as it requires more time to transmit and receive data.
In other words, leave 3G off unless you really need to use data and you'll see your battery life double. And turn off notifications except for apps for which you really need them.
im getting about 4 or 5 hours usage and then have to recharge - which is shit - a few short 3 or 4 minute videos and and hour wifi and the battery goes from 95 per cent to about 40 per cent - never mind even playing games - it eats the battery in about 2 hours
damn your battery life sucks mine is excellent you have to set the battery dude. You let it die all the way then charge it to 100% that was the problem that happened before. My iphone 4 easily last me a day and a half.

Don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but the time since your last charge is actually 26 hours and 9 minutes. (usage + standby), and you still have 45% of your charge left?
So, if 26 hours 9 minutes (1,579 minutes) uses 55% of your battery,
the remaining 45% should give you a further 21 hours 23 minutes (1,284 minutes).
This means if you continue your usage pattern you will only have to charge your phone every 47 hours 32 minutes. Or every second day.

multi tasking push notification and location services really drain the battery life. i suggest you turn off your wifi and 3g whenever you can. my iphone can go 2 full days without charging.
My battery is bad, but even worse, u had about 3 hours of use and just short of a full day of standby. I fully charged mine in the morning, got about an hour of use out of it, and had it on 8 hours of standby, it was at 57%

@stupiditiestloser turn off your 3g and wifi when you lock it. if it still stops draining. it could be an app thats been running in background thats sapping the batt life. if it continues to drain you better take it back to the store.

@beeochg4 to close the app completely you'd have to double tap the home button to bring up the dock thingy. then tap-hold those icons until they start to jiggle. then delete from there. its a pain to keep doing this all the.
Indeed, the battery problem has been especially bad for iPhone/iPod Touch 4.0.1. Apple hasn't released any software updates just yet....but there are a few good things you can do to fix the battery life! I just uploaded a video explaining the FIX

This is also my 2nd iPhone as well, with my first i was averaging 4hours usage and 16hours standby so when I took it to an Apple store they changed it.
Yeah. I leave it off or sometimes turn airplane mode on over night. Wifi, brightness, 3D gaming (hi-resolution games), does play a role on the battery life.
@DwarfMinded do u know is there a way to completely exit out of a app or game so that its not still running in the background killing ur battery, cause lately when i click on the hm button to exit a game its still going, cause later when i open it up again it resumes right where i left off like it doesnt reload the game from the begining

Hey techmaster, just wanted to chime in with my own iphone 4 battery report. Today i had 9 hours and 45 minutes of usage with 15 and a half hours of standby before it died (0%). Not sure if that's any good. Estimation of what I used the phone for is as follows:
iPod music playback: 2h20m
Pandora streaming: 1h30m
Internet browsing: 1hr
Gaming: 30-45 minutes
Phone calls: 30 minutes (on 3G)
A few youtube vids
Rest was texting/browsing the appstore/downloading a few apps/playing with settings/etc
TECHMASTER!! full charge at 9pm yesterday till 2:40 pm. my phone on standby with wifi only on no 3g,bluetooth, push, brightness low I get 92%. before the Restore same situation it would be at 79%. I believe when you first sync with old 3g/3gs it leaves apps running in background or others. Do a restore everyone and you will see the true potential of the iphone 4 battery.

turn off that battery % guys!!!! stop being paranoid. Hahaha. j/k try this. I turn off my wifi, 3g, push/fetch off brightness to almost low, and screen lock to "never". Get the timer ready and once you see a battery percentage drop hit timer. My percentage drops at 6min 33sec.
i also have the iphone 4 and i noticed my battery usage goes on a verage of around 4-5 hours and like 14-18 hours of standby. What do you think, for heavy usage is that good or should i tweak my settings or bring the phone back and get it swapped out by working my magic with the gift of gab ?
You have to be consistent if your going to compare. I listen to music and surf the web at work for the same amount of time every night and I'm getting much more life from my 4 then my 3G. Use to come home with 20% on the 3G now coming home with 45-50% left on the iPhone 4. If you don't see a difference take it back somethings wrong
Its about the same as yours, 5 hrs of usage on 3G... The same as my iphone 3g but im using it on wifi... I went to apple store and they replaced with a new phone (not to mention i had motion sensor problems too) but usage is still the same as the old one... Probably its how u use the phone, what applications are running like pandora etc...
I honestly have not kept track. I do so many different things in one charge. I will have to do some testing. I also noticed it seems to charge very fast. I will do some testing and report back. :)
@Techlen737 playing 3D game GodFinger. Game played for 3 hours 37min before I received 20% low battery alert. Oh and left the iPhone4 on standby for 8 hours 19 min before I played. ;) I am happy with it.
I have great battery life and I use the crap out of my iPhone4. Brightness is high. Notifications are on. I play games on it. Use the Internet all the time on 3G and I can say it's better then my 3GS. I can't complain. And now that I have used the iphone4 for a few days I went back and looked at my 3GS screen. Wow yuck you really see the difference. I couldn't go back now. Especially after watching a HD movie on my iPhone 4.
Right now im at about 27% and it says ive used it about 12 hours and 21 minutes since the last full charge. I leave it charging every night and use it for the whole day so idk if thats good but I think its still kinda bad
Sorry to hear about your issue. Mine has way better battery life than yours. Try lowering the brightness, doing a full cycle charge (Charge to 100%. Let your phone die. Charge it to 100% again), turning off extra things like bluetooth, and don't use 3g too much. I can go for a long time watching videos on 3g and playing 3D games without my battery draining fast.
i actually have a shit load of battery life compared to my shitty 3G iPhone. and really you should put your brightness down a bit. and do not use bluetooth.

iOS4 has added 2 extra "features" which did not exist previously.
Settings > Notifications > Game Center (turn everything there off).
Settings > Facetime > OFF
You're battery is now 80% as good as iOS3 devices.
The epic problem is that Facetime is still running in the background, leaving you with 40mb less free RAM.
Proof:
iPod touch 3g with iOS3 = 150+ free ram
iPod touch 4g with iOS4 = 120 free ram

I usually get around 7-8 hours of total usage and I use it a lot, I usually have to charge it every two days, I have gotten up to 9-10 hours of usage before but thats what I usually average

I got 4 hours and 28 minutes of alot of usage for me checking mail over 3g bout 20 mins on youtube and possibly an hour of safari all over 3g brightness on 50% took a couple pics with flash and exactly 6 hours and 50 mins standby time also like 10 mins of playstation emulator game final fantasy tactics and a but of skype possibly around 20 mins alltogether exactly 49% battery life im am extremly satisfied :)

my iphone 4's battery life is pretty much like you... i have 3 emails account to push, some apps that pushes informations (not all), bluetooth is off all the time, wifi on and 3G on (but on wifi all the time), and even if I don't really use it, the battery goes down fast... Bluetooth and 3G are battery killers... At the end of the day the battery is at like 30%-15%... the battery life is acceptable...

Turning off 3G easily doubles the battery life when making calls. Since the sound quality is pretty much the same, I don't see the point in making calls with 3G on.
With data though, the slowness of Edge will counteract the lower power usage as it requires more time to transmit and receive data.
In other words, leave 3G off unless you really need to use data and you'll see your battery life double. And turn off notifications except for apps for which you really need them.

im getting about 4 or 5 hours usage and then have to recharge - which is shit - a few short 3 or 4 minute videos and and hour wifi and the battery goes from 95 per cent to about 40 per cent - never mind even playing games - it eats the battery in about 2 hours

I suppose it depends on what you do. 7 hours of talk time on 3G. That's = to 420 minute. If you call for 4.2 min. expect to lose 1% every 4.2 min.

Don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but the time since your last charge is actually 26 hours and 9 minutes. (usage + standby), and you still have 45% of your charge left?
So, if 26 hours 9 minutes (1,579 minutes) uses 55% of your battery,
the remaining 45% should give you a further 21 hours 23 minutes (1,284 minutes).
This means if you continue your usage pattern you will only have to charge your phone every 47 hours 32 minutes. Or every second day.
Sounds pretty decent to me!

multi tasking push notification and location services really drain the battery life. i suggest you turn off your wifi and 3g whenever you can. my iphone can go 2 full days without charging.

My battery is bad, but even worse, u had about 3 hours of use and just short of a full day of standby. I fully charged mine in the morning, got about an hour of use out of it, and had it on 8 hours of standby, it was at 57%

@stupiditiestloser turn off your 3g and wifi when you lock it. if it still stops draining. it could be an app thats been running in background thats sapping the batt life. if it continues to drain you better take it back to the store.

@beeochg4 to close the app completely you'd have to double tap the home button to bring up the dock thingy. then tap-hold those icons until they start to jiggle. then delete from there. its a pain to keep doing this all the.

Indeed, the battery problem has been especially bad for iPhone/iPod Touch 4.0.1. Apple hasn't released any software updates just yet....but there are a few good things you can do to fix the battery life! I just uploaded a video explaining the FIX

@SlingingSlasher Mines about the same as yours. I've had 3g turned off when I dropped below 50% so dont know how much that helped to keep the battery going....
This is also my 2nd iPhone as well, with my first i was averaging 4hours usage and 16hours standby so when I took it to an Apple store they changed it.

Yeah. I leave it off or sometimes turn airplane mode on over night. Wifi, brightness, 3D gaming (hi-resolution games), does play a role on the battery life.

Lots of texting browsing apps and some YouTube
Total 8hrs 10 min usage 14.3hrs standby July 19 oh and I used wifi alot no 3G and my brightness was at about 35%

Hey techmaster, just wanted to chime in with my own iphone 4 battery report. Today i had 9 hours and 45 minutes of usage with 15 and a half hours of standby before it died (0%). Not sure if that's any good. Estimation of what I used the phone for is as follows:
iPod music playback: 2h20m
Pandora streaming: 1h30m
Internet browsing: 1hr
Gaming: 30-45 minutes
Phone calls: 30 minutes (on 3G)
A few youtube vids
Rest was texting/browsing the appstore/downloading a few apps/playing with settings/etc

TECHMASTER!! full charge at 9pm yesterday till 2:40 pm. my phone on standby with wifi only on no 3g,bluetooth, push, brightness low I get 92%. before the Restore same situation it would be at 79%. I believe when you first sync with old 3g/3gs it leaves apps running in background or others. Do a restore everyone and you will see the true potential of the iphone 4 battery.

And u are right when i was in line for it someone had the 3GS Updated to IOS4 and it was on the whole 12 hours but im not concerened unless something happens!!! turn off that battery % guys!!!! stop being paranoid. Hahaha. j/k try this. I turn off my wifi, 3g, push/fetch off brightness to almost low, and screen lock to "never". Get the timer ready and once you see a battery percentage drop hit timer. My percentage drops at 6min 33sec.

i also have the iphone 4 and i noticed my battery usage goes on a verage of around 4-5 hours and like 14-18 hours of standby. What do you think, for heavy usage is that good or should i tweak my settings or bring the phone back and get it swapped out by working my magic with the gift of gab ?

You have to be consistent if your going to compare. I listen to music and surf the web at work for the same amount of time every night and I'm getting much more life from my 4 then my 3G. Use to come home with 20% on the 3G now coming home with 45-50% left on the iPhone 4. If you don't see a difference take it back somethings wrong

Its about the same as yours, 5 hrs of usage on 3G... The same as my iphone 3g but im using it on wifi... I went to apple store and they replaced with a new phone (not to mention i had motion sensor problems too) but usage is still the same as the old one... Probably its how u use the phone, what applications are running like pandora etc...

I have great battery life and I use the crap out of my iPhone4. Brightness is high. Notifications are on. I play games on it. Use the Internet all the time on 3G and I can say it's better then my 3GS. I can't complain. And now that I have used the iphone4 for a few days I went back and looked at my 3GS screen. Wow yuck you really see the difference. I couldn't go back now. Especially after watching a HD movie on my iPhone 4.

Right now im at about 27% and it says ive used it about 12 hours and 21 minutes since the last full charge. I leave it charging every night and use it for the whole day so idk if thats good but I think its still kinda bad

Sorry to hear about your issue. Mine has way better battery life than yours. Try lowering the brightness, doing a full cycle charge (Charge to 100%. Let your phone die. Charge it to 100% again), turning off extra things like bluetooth, and don't use 3g too much. I can go for a long time watching videos on 3g and playing 3D games without my battery draining fast.
