Ok something i do not get is i have a 27inch Sanyo t.v (im not to sure if its plasma or lcd) and whenever im under it and look at it from under it gets darker....any iidea why??
when it comes to plasma get samsung..........blows everything else away. Colors and resolution are best on samsung. plasma is cheaper then lcd but plasma is harder to find in s mall sizes but trust me...50in will soon be standard size. many 50in plasmas out there.
I have owned both and plasma is much better. you get a great picture at all and every angle. Also, plasma has a more relaistic picture. LCD is more computer like.
@sephirotharsy6 Actually, it's way overkill. PS3 only goes up to 720p quality. Anything above that won't be used to it's full potential. It really doesn't matter if it's plasma or not imo.
@Zacccc51 i disagree, for that reason game companies would not make 1080p games. i agree that some games look the same in 1080p and 720p, but there are alot of games that use the 1080p to their advantage example Gran Tourism 5, Dead space 2 and uncharted 3, only to name some. i have both an LCD and a plasma, but i find that the quality and color is alot more vibrant on a plasma, therefore more enjoyable to play.
Plasm is A LOT BETTER than LCD. But all the makers are trying to get you to buy LCD's because they make a much bigger mark up on the shit LCD's. How do I know. My Uncle is manager at a Best Buy.
ya the difference is this. lcd has this blur. Like the pixels are all fucked up when some guys head moves on a tv. A plasma however don't show that. Where the head moves the head goes and keeps it's features.
The picture might look like shit because the cables not hd, BUT the picture won't also add that damn annoying slight distorted look either. Now with blu ray, eh both the same. No blurs and whatnot. Games you get a slight blur when ur whippn around with cod but not as noticeable as tv.
@shade231 Bought a vizio plasma years back when the old box tv's stopped selling. Pane of glass about 1 inch away from the screen. It sits in the living room, faces away from the window, never have any problems with burn in or glare.
I thought lcd/led would be the same. Big fuckn mistake there. I'm not sure on those plasma's that don't have the glass in front though. Maybe they glare? I know its fun to turn it off and watch the fireplace reflect off of it like an image on the glass.
@shade231 so which one gets the blur i got a 720p sony and the picture looked better then the 37" 1080p this is because i saw a blur but do what is your opinion on what to get plasma or lcd for my 360 ? thnx
@dannycsn blur is most noticeable when your watching regular tv. Mainly because while its all digital it has to be scaled from 480. It's just the way it is unless it's originally in 720. So while doing that and then transferring to your tv, your tv then does it's lil thing, and because it's lcd the frame rate isn't instantaneous like the old tubes and the time it takes the pixels to change color, you get the distorted blur.
@shade231 o ok ive been looking at the new panasonic 1080p ips alpha panel 37" they said that ips reduced ghosting but im not sure it still and lcd...and i appreciate the help
@dannycsn Gaming itself isn't as noticeable since the games don't need to go through any hoops really. But the problem that comes into play is the response time.
Lcd is always gonna have that slight gap in response time. It's just the way it is. The pixels can't change fast enough. Plasma however is always at a constant. They're the closest to our old tube tvs. Plus they fixed the burn in in the newer models unless you leave your tv on for like a day on one solid screen.
@shade231 thnx man i just cant find a plasma in my price range with 1080 p but i did find a panasonic viera with ips alpha which is sopposed to reduce ghosting iono if you can tell me anything about ips and i appreciate you guyses help
@dannycsn Unless it's gonna be 48 inches or higher, that 1080 doesn't really show any difference. In fact if anything the tv would upscale moves and games more for them to be displayed in 1080 and it might look cropped. Mainly cause alot of stuff isn't in 1080. Not tv. Not even really games.
1080 is used to fill bigger surfaces so the picture doesn't suffer. Having it on smaller surfaces doesn't really make any difference. oh and go panasonic. Others all seem to blow after 2 years
Plama tv's do NOT suffer from burn-in anymore the years is 2011 ...not 2007 it has been sorted now.. my friend has a Lcd and he tell me every time he comes over to stay that the colour is better on my plasma by far.. and that comes from and Lcd owner..
PS, lcd has a low viewing angle.. can only be viewed from certain angles.. thats not a problem on a plasma.
I'm getting some jagged lines around peoples faces with my plasma should I switch to LCD..I play alot of video game like 6 hours a day..So I know it will burn out in a year or so and I've had this tv for a year
there are pros & cons with all different TV techs. just go visit a store & watch the picture quality on those TV sets you are interested in. not do as me , just ordering on the internet , based on reviews i looked at:-( remember , QUALITY COSTS !
I can't stand LCD displays. They either have over saturated or washed out color, and they're horrible at flesh tones(the flesh is either pink or red most of the time). Plasmas have a natural and accurate color almost right out of the box. LCD is better for PC monitors(as long as the signals a pure digital one, like HDMI or DVI).
Burn in is no longer an issue with newer plasmas that only happened with earlier tech, I play xbox and mW2 is great on my plasma because the swift motions look crisp
i don't know why they said LCDs are better for video games since LCDs have a lagging problem. Plasmas do not lag at all. They also didn't mention anything about viewing angles. Plasma TVs have more viewing angles, meaning the picture doesn't appear like a negative if viewed from a side, top or bottom position.
@SnakeStormTV I think because the videos are older, and older plasma's were more likely to suffer from burn in, where-as today its pretty much eradicated.
LED is winner they are most power efficient, newer, bigger, wont burn out, last a long time, are thin, and better and nicer quality, buying everything you can at this time is bull s***, LEDs are out, glad i dint get a new monitor till now.
@danydaniel12345 LED Tv's are the same as LCD's but instead of using a CFL they use LED bulbs which are yes more energy effecient and last a long time. I've sold TV's for 4 years and I still say I prefer plasma. Plasmas still offer the fastest response rate which causes less image blur which are found on LCD/LED tv's. Also the black levels are alot darker on the plasma screens.

plasma is better for sports? i just got a 60 inch plasma the other day just watched a game of football and there was haze around the players and anything moving.. especially in a high view, watching anything else is good! does anyone know if theres a way to refine it? or is that just the way it is.. i dont really like it!
so far i have not seen any lcd or led tv that is as comfortable on the eyes as crt. THe problem with lcd and led tvs is you are looking at a screen illuminated by a lightbulb or led which causes glare. I find with lcd tvs it feels like i am staring into a lightbulb and with crt i never experienced this. Crt was far superior in many ways.
In the video says tha lcd, cuz the burning image......But today plasmas have resolve that problem, u haver to stay in the same image like 24 to 48 hours to burn it.....anyway remember....if your room is dark....better plasma....if theres to much light LCD
@MrNoturcheez Personally, I prefer plasma for movies & gaming. Colors are rich, blacks aren't washed out, everything looks just awesome and clear. Viewing angle is amazing, picture does not change when you move around. You tend to get more screen for your money as well.
LCD's to me just always look kind of "video-y", if that makes sense. One is not better than the other, like anything it's totally subjective.
This is from 2007..... I just recently bought a 60'' LG plasma and the picture is amazing! and thats not just me saying that, all my friends who have seen it say the picture is great aswell, and they have 45-55'' LCD's made by sony. But I really dont think that quality is a issue anymore in the higher end plasmas and lcd's they all have great pics!
Plasmas are still the best panels out there, lcd's have been playing catchup for years but will never be able to match pq. Yes plasma's have cons, most in which dont really justify squat atleast imo...any high end model wont have nearly as much glare as most people claim (vt25, 8series etc)
Comparing LCD and plasma is like the special olympics. Whatever the winner is, it's still retarded. Both technologies are rubbish compared to a Sony Trinitron.
@Davez621 thanks for the info but you could have left out reference to Special Olympics and being still retarded. I have a sister with Downes and was hurt by your comment. Not that you care.
"Burn In" is so 2005!!. Nowadays plasma tv's come with big features that prevent burn in effect. Also the ones that create images at 600hz are less likely to suffer from this problem because their high motion setup.
Plasmas are better for gaming and movies (action movies), and they not cause you visual fatigue. PLASMA OR DIE
Only thing wrong with plasma is the noise produces. This can get you into trouble if it is really bad. (Cheap plasmas) LED/LCD is bright and clear My Vizio M220VA 22" 60Hz suits my needs and I watch SDTV, use a computer, play games and watch movies on it with a stand alone. Unlike my nephews florescent 52" LCD 120Hz display, which I can see the camera shakes and other oddities that just bother me. SDTV is clearer color is fine and It plays my VHS tapes clear as if I am watching it on a CRT.
@brandonwade33 Get Plasma. The only reason not to buy Plasma for gaming is the risk of burn-in. That mainly happens if you play the same game all the time and the game has consistent still images. That in the long run could cause burn-in.
@brandonwade33 Plasma for sure. However I highly recommend you a 600 hz plasma, and thats the reason why its better. An normal LCD run the image at 60 hz, and a very good one at 120 hz. In english this means your image will be smoother and more fluid than in an LCD. I hope it helps.
I prefer LCD. I recently bought a wall mount for my 42" LCD tv. I paid about 70% less for my TV wall mount at discounttvwallmounts. com .I almost maid a mistake and bought it at best buy. It was great quality and I highly recommend them.
Bullshit ! I swear I bought this year 3 TV's one Samsung FULL HD LCD the newest, and the Philips Ambilight FULL HD LCD Newest !! and another Philips FULL HD, I swear my sister has this old LG Plasma hd ready and the image is fucking beautiful !! and the tv is over 3 years old !!! when I add my ps3 to it the ''FULL HD'' tv's I bought for a lot of money can't even come close to the image that old TV has !!!!
@LoneSniperFox And in 30 minutes i'm going shopping with friends for a new tv, I need a plasma a good one and a bit big like above the 1M maybe a 107 or 117 cm... if you could recommend one, that would be awesome for my ps3 thanks bye !
@LoneSniperFox Wow wish i could see it myself, how about the textures over persons is it smooth... not like those lcd lines i hate that !.. wich panasonic exactly ? are all panasonic plasma's good? hope i'm not asking too much... and I mostly play PES2010 and UFC 2010 and shooters like COD and Socom
@CopaBleyenhoek I'm sorry i do not have the model of the TV, threw away box. I know what you mean when you say you hate those grainy Youtube-like textures while watching tv. I think it has to do more on the source of the signal. If your tv signal is not HD to begin with you will have the grainy textures no matter what kind of tv. just make sure you got an HDMI to your source.
When I play Blu Rays or stream movies on Netflix they look great. can even see the pores and sweat on people's faces!
@LoneSniperFox No bro ! we misunderstood eachother, i'm talking about the people in games like football players whoevers... the lines around with lcd it's like HARD lines asif it's cartoonish comical... But the plasma shows that smooth linesmotion... that's what i LOVE !!! it makes it more real to me hahaha i must look crazy !!
@CopaBleyenhoek OH I UNDERSTAND NOW. Well guess what? Apparently I haven't seen any cartoony lines on my tv! so Everything's smooth. I think the lines all blend nicely
We have an lcd and a plasma television, the lcd looks better and my dad uses the plasma tv for his computer and has done for a year or so and has never burnt in
@zim1818 I knew it was going to be a plasma fanboy. It's all true of course. Go to a stereo store and you cannot determine from the sets on display which is plasma and which are lcd. A bigger determining factor in picture quality isn't whether it's plasma or lcd, but who makes it. Stick with names like Sony, Toshiba or Panasonic and pass on just about everything else, especially Samsung, worst tvs ever made.
im gong to buy a lcd led backlit tv. i think id prefer the durability and loose a bit of contrast and colour reproduction. even though the lcd led tvs really look amaizing and are so thin
lol "LCD is better if your playing games because of picture burn in? i dont know what type of games people are playing, but usually in a game the picture isnt the same for 8 hours for the picture to burn in. i bought a 50 inch panasonic 1080p 600Hz and when ur done gaming... turn the screen off...
@Sam3r26 I have been extremely happy with my 52 "65" series, I had the 52-"650" which had dead pixels.Backwards to my logic, the "65" is a better TV display, and more features, connectors. I have a video of the issue on my youtube site.
"Burn in if the kids go for a snack"? Fucking moron. You need to leave a plasma on the same screen for about 24 hours to achieve screen burn. Dosey yanks.
I guarantee you have input lag. You're probably just used to it. Do a lag test. It'll be in the region of 30/50 ms whereas the average input lag of plasma is 10-15 ms
@tavogx Glad to be of service. LCD is flawed technology. Personally I'd like to see LCD technology fired into space and forgotten. I fit AV systems for a living. What size are you thinking?
@jamesf348 I just bought a LG 60in plasma tv, is the break in period for plasma 100 or 200 hours? Ive only been watching blu rays, and dvds that dont have any letter bars. Any advice on preventing burn in after the break in period. thanks
@LBGreenthumb Generally 200 hrs. Use the Tv on a warm tint for the duration of burn in. In pic settings. Then switch back to normal colour tint when week or so is up. Then use following-
contrast- 55%
Brightness- 50-55%
sharpness- 30-35%
You will get image retention after watching a film with the letterbox bars, but they'll only be noticeable on a total black screen ie, switching it off. They disappear after 5/10 mins
@jamesf348 Current setup for break in period I am using - Contrast-50, Brightness-50, Sharpness-40, Warm Tint. would you recommend running the "white wash" after running movies with letter bars after the break in period? Also one of my favorite movies is Amadeus which is 3 hours long and has letter bars, could that length of time cause "Burn In". Thanks for the help, I want this tv to last me a long time.
@jamesf348 Well.. i was thinking in 50" BUT.... The guy on the store told me that it would be too big (and too hot) for my room (and it is not small). So... 42" (Lg 42 Pj350r) will be just fine for me :D.
You seem to know a lot about this i will suscribe to you sir. And thanks for you interest :)
@prozack666 I have both types of tv. Plasma has a better picture. LCD is brighter which looks good in a bright store. Once you get home, it's a different story. Unless you have a real bright room, the Plasma is the better tv.
Noone mentioned the horrible latency the LCD has which makes it difficult to play video games which require quick response time. I just took my LCD back to the store and picked up a plasma. I am very happy now and owning people on bad company 2 again.
Acer is a noname I suspect tho I have two of them one works and one don't. Only an idiot uses that term against a 14 year to one 1 (one) observation then challenges it with not even one specification except that his game boy probabely works better on it. Back off fool!
Videogames = LCD
Movies = PLASMA...

my opinion here is both lcd and plasma is a crap!
lcd = only for bright rooms dont watch it in dark coz your eyes get hurt... also pixelated and motion blur! this is bullshit...
plasma= cannot watch in bright rooms. lifespan is short. higher electricity bill. this is bullshit too!!!!!!!!!
led = clear picture but pixelated too and motion blur.
i think that much better is buy only tv. 4:9
this is so vivid and clear pic it wont get ur eyes hurt but radiation is there.

LED, LCD and plasma are all crap, I say bring back the CRT TVs and make them as light as the new ones.
Especially when it comes to video games

bleach99999naruto 10 months ago

These guys said LCD is better for video gaming, everyone else says plasma. So which is it?
brandonwade33 1 year ago
@brandonwade33 Plasma are definitely better for gaming due to their 600 refresh rate vs 120 on LCDs.
HigherPlanes 1 year ago
@brandonwade33 Get Plasma. The only reason not to buy Plasma for gaming is the risk of burn-in. That mainly happens if you play the same game all the time and the game has consistent still images. That in the long run could cause burn-in.
mavsfan1000 1 year ago
@brandonwade33 Plasma for sure. However I highly recommend you a 600 hz plasma, and thats the reason why its better. An normal LCD run the image at 60 hz, and a very good one at 120 hz. In english this means your image will be smoother and more fluid than in an LCD. I hope it helps.

@LoneSniperFox And in 30 minutes i'm going shopping with friends for a new tv, I need a plasma a good one and a bit big like above the 1M maybe a 107 or 117 cm... if you could recommend one, that would be awesome for my ps3 thanks bye !
CopaBleyenhoek 1 year ago
@CopaBleyenhoek Yea sure. I personally own a Panasonic plasma TV. and since i live in the US its 42-46 inches.
It's perfect for my PS3 and xbox. I play MLB 10 the show. God of War III, Metal Gear Solid 4, Halo, etc..
The dark colors and Blacks look gorgeous on plasma. you can't go wrong! I love it so far and i've had for about two months now. NO PROBLEMS.
hope this helped!
LoneSniperFox 1 year ago
@LoneSniperFox Wow wish i could see it myself, how about the textures over persons is it smooth... not like those lcd lines i hate that !.. wich panasonic exactly ? are all panasonic plasma's good? hope i'm not asking too much... and I mostly play PES2010 and UFC 2010 and shooters like COD and Socom
CopaBleyenhoek 1 year ago
@CopaBleyenhoek I'm sorry i do not have the model of the TV, threw away box. I know what you mean when you say you hate those grainy Youtube-like textures while watching tv. I think it has to do more on the source of the signal. If your tv signal is not HD to begin with you will have the grainy textures no matter what kind of tv. just make sure you got an HDMI to your source.
When I play Blu Rays or stream movies on Netflix they look great. can even see the pores and sweat on people's faces!
LoneSniperFox 1 year ago
@LoneSniperFox No bro ! we misunderstood eachother, i'm talking about the people in games like football players whoevers... the lines around with lcd it's like HARD lines asif it's cartoonish comical... But the plasma shows that smooth linesmotion... that's what i LOVE !!! it makes it more real to me hahaha i must look crazy !!
CopaBleyenhoek 1 year ago
@CopaBleyenhoek OH I UNDERSTAND NOW. Well guess what? Apparently I haven't seen any cartoony lines on my tv! so Everything's smooth. I think the lines all blend nicely

and you play PES, I play FIFA. lol! with plasmas you don't see the blurry trail on an object such as a soccer ball or baseball when it's in motion.
shooters look great too. my Black Ops and Battlefield look good. especially...ESPECIALLY Medal of Honor

I have a 22" Toshiba LCD TV Regza and so far I'm impressed with the portable quality. Better choice than Samsung for a portable and flexible stand.
headshot803 1 year ago
Both have excellent picture.
Problems:
Plasma, picture degrades over time.
LCD, dead pixels.
Plasmas runs hotter, screen reflects, is heavier, and uses twice as much electricity as LCD.
Have to go with LCD on this one.
wartarot 1 year ago
@wartarot Wrong.
zim1818 1 year ago
@zim1818 I knew it was going to be a plasma fanboy. It's all true of course. Go to a stereo store and you cannot determine from the sets on display which is plasma and which are lcd. A bigger determining factor in picture quality isn't whether it's plasma or lcd, but who makes it. Stick with names like Sony, Toshiba or Panasonic and pass on just about everything else, especially Samsung, worst tvs ever made.

@Sam3r26 I have been extremely happy with my 52 "65" series, I had the 52-"650" which had dead pixels.Backwards to my logic, the "65" is a better TV display, and more features, connectors. I have a video of the issue on my youtube site.
So get a 65, 75, 85 set if possible.

"Burn in if the kids go for a snack"? Fucking moron. You need to leave a plasma on the same screen for about 24 hours to achieve screen burn. Dosey yanks.
jamesf348 1 year ago
I guarantee you have input lag. You're probably just used to it. Do a lag test. It'll be in the region of 30/50 ms whereas the average input lag of plasma is 10-15 ms

jamesf348 1 year ago
@jamesf348 I just bought a LG 60in plasma tv, is the break in period for plasma 100 or 200 hours? Ive only been watching blu rays, and dvds that dont have any letter bars. Any advice on preventing burn in after the break in period. thanks
LBGreenthumb 1 year ago
@LBGreenthumb Generally 200 hrs. Use the Tv on a warm tint for the duration of burn in. In pic settings. Then switch back to normal colour tint when week or so is up. Then use following-
contrast- 55%
Brightness- 50-55%
sharpness- 30-35%
You will get image retention after watching a film with the letterbox bars, but they'll only be noticeable on a total black screen ie, switching it off. They disappear after 5/10 mins
jamesf348 1 year ago
@jamesf348 Current setup for break in period I am using - Contrast-50, Brightness-50, Sharpness-40, Warm Tint. would you recommend running the "white wash" after running movies with letter bars after the break in period? Also one of my favorite movies is Amadeus which is 3 hours long and has letter bars, could that length of time cause "Burn In". Thanks for the help, I want this tv to last me a long time.
LBGreenthumb 1 year ago
@jamesf348 Well.. i was thinking in 50" BUT.... The guy on the store told me that it would be too big (and too hot) for my room (and it is not small). So... 42" (Lg 42 Pj350r) will be just fine for me :D.
You seem to know a lot about this i will suscribe to you sir. And thanks for you interest :)
