"We have not yet experienced a global thermonuclear war -- although on more than one occasion we have come tremulously close. I do NOT think our luck can hold forever ... We have placed our civilization and our species in jeopardy. Fortunately, it is not yet too late. We can safeguard the planetary civilization and the Human family if we so choose. There is no more important or more urgent issue."

The Quest for Peace's MESSAGE is "more urgent" than bitching about TRIVIAL flaws!
Its power to protect is a dangerous fabrication. The threat or use of nuclear weapons provides NO protection against an attack.
It diverts Human and economic resources desperately needed to meet basic Human needs around the world. Globally, approximately $100 billion is spent annually on nuclear forces.
It is vulnerable to cyber attack, sabotage, and technical error, which could result in a nuclear strike.
"I had seen a television show in Boston. Children were talking about what it is like to grow up in the atomic age. At the same time, people were saying that I had the attention of the kids and that I should take advantage of that. Meanwhile, Warner Brothers was saying 'let's do it,' so I said, OK, here's a way to consider this topic."
--Christopher Reeve, on why he wrote The Quest for Peace
... Reeve would be ASHAMED of how stuck up you fans are and how y'all have missed the point.
Thank you, "jawzmuzik" -- retards like Ticr00 are under the delusion that his escapism; his suspension of disbelief is supposedly more important than promoting nuclear abolition. What he doesn't seem to realize is that, if there's a nuclear holocaust, NO one is going to give a shit about his snide bitchy wisecracks about this movie's TRIVIAL flaws.
Japan is suffering from a NUCLEAR disaster and here you snide bitches are getting off on turning your noses up at a movie that was meant to prevent a NUCLEAR disaster ...
... when stuck up fans die, they go to Hell and are forced to watch REAL flops like Dude, Where's My Car? for all eternity.
@princeofthieves1000 The movie is shit! Idea of Superman dealing with nuclear disarming is also stupid! You brought Japan into the whole story only to have something to bitch about.
Given what's going on in Japan right now, you snide, bitchy fans ought to be ashamed of yourselves -- turning your noses up at a movie promoting nuclear aboltion while psychotically obsessing over TRIVIAL flaws ...
... clearly, it's going to take someplace predominantly white getting nuked before y'all finally get it through your thick skulls ...
"For me, Quest for Peace is the most personal Superman of the entire series. It directly reflects what Superman should be, and what he should be doing."
--Christopher Reeve, 1987
... this movie's message (especially now with Japan's NUCLEAR disaster) is FAR more important than whether some SNIDE, SPOILED fan was enraptured by a cinematic experience! A peaceful, nuke-free world trumps "suspension of disbelief!"

With all of Reeve's impassioned explanations, we still got a poorly-made film which, despite its heart being int he right place, is the worst of the series and an embarrassment (IMO) to fans. I like to pretend the series ended with II.
if there was something special about this movie, it's the fact that this is his LAST SUPERMAN film! and we don't know if we can have another Superman actor of his caliber!
Casting, except Reeves, was horrible. In the meantime, it's back to George Reeves 1953 episodes and kirk Allyn movie serial chapters. Bryan singer spent the whole budget for Superman Returns ( which had some good stuff) on re-hasing Richard Donner's ideas. The whole franchise needs a NEW storyline and it needs to be aboiut SUPERMAN
Only movie in my entire life that I walked out on. It was horrible beyond description. Terrible script, terrible acting, terrible effects (I mean, how many times can you use the same flying sequence??), etc.
yes reeve must have known this was'nt up there with the rest.did you know that this film cost less to make than the 1978 movie? you do now.But reeve was the best superman by far and they all know it.
Just in case you guys dont know...they are making another Superman - its gonna be called "The Man of Steel" and written by the same people who wrote "The Dark Knight"
God Bless'em . Such a genuine and charming man. He did his darndest too make a good movie. And great or not I loved seeing him one last time as a kid , before he left the role. What a wonderful Superman he made , I doubt a better one there will ever be.
Its no wonder he didn`t after how he was treated in Superman #2 his version was waaaaaay better then what the Salkind`s version was..I just hope they make another one before 2013 cause thats when the copyrights will go back to the rightful owners Segels and Shuster family
Well this was well after the Salkinds rights to make the Superman movie's was well over. So they really had nothing to do with it. Superman 4 had nothing to do with the Salkinds at all.
I highly doubt that Warner's will allow the Shuster household to take away there greatest character , as every several yrs they go throught this same thing and it's always settled out of court.
If they don`t get the next Superman movie out by 2012 they`r gonna have a hard time cause the rights go back to the familes and rightfully so...Its too bad Joe and Jerry could`t be alive to see it happen.. I love DC comics and a huge Superman fan and collector but when it boils down to it DC back in the late 30`s should have given the boys some kind of royalty 5-10% something cause these big companies are nothing but greed even though Joe and Jerry created a icon..Sad
This has happened every 10 yrs or so. And it always ends with Warner's shelling out large sum's of money to the Shuster household outside of court. So I would'nt worry about it . Superman will most likley stay where he's always been and the world won't end in 2012.
But copyrights go back to the original owners or families after 75yrs so i think WB might be in strangle hold if they don`t get Superman out in the theatre`s by 2012 but then again who know whats gonna happen when the rights return..Its going to be interesting eh.
I suspect that WB and D.C. will buy the right again for a undisclosed amount outside of Court. I'm sure that the Shuster Household won't refuse several hundred million dollars instead of mataining and marketing a character they don't know what to do with. Unless they're just going to sit on there butts after 2012 and do nothing with Superman? I highly doubt that Warner's is just going let Supy go out like that. They now that there is more of a big money making future than that.
Either way its nice to see the family will have a fortune in there midst but won`t WB loose total rights to the man of steel once the copyrights are returned to the families?
I would imagine. I don't know the exact details as I'm not in the bizz. But before the end, I think Waners will make a new contract with those household's for the copywrites for a very large amount of money before this would happen. I could be wrong. But I just can't see them letting Supes just go on bye.
I think Reeve and writers had the best of intentions with this movie and conceptually it very easily could have worked seeing as how its the only one of the Superman movies that attempted to transcend itself and try to really say something. But Golan and Globus messed up the budget. I coulda produced a better looking production out of my back yard with some plywood and paint.
i grew up on these films and loved the first 3. this film was a total dog and they all knew it. but i did see it in the theater when i was a kid and loved it so it worked for me then anyway. now it's fun to watch but so boring!
I've got the original clips that they didn't show in the movies, especially that first bit, AND I'M GLAD DIDN'T PUT IT IN, otherwise it would of ruined the movie totally, click on my name and bring up the thumbnails for teh video list, it comes under Simpsons 4 weird deleted scenes...
Apparently he couldnt train much because of a back injury which is fate considering what happened to him later on. He was his biggest in Superman 3 I think.
That's the director saying, "okay it'll work." Apparently not, that attitude ruined the movie and the franchise. Not all his fault though when Cannons budget was widely cut.
