but you're right, of course its awful, its made by Ivar Combrinck, the same guy who was responsible for the german synchronisation of the simpsons and later futurama.

Not really, ZDF only dubbed 13 episodes, later another station (RTL) saved the show, the crappy ZDF version hasn't been seen since it first aired in the 80s.

it's the episode title. in English, it was called "The Spy that Came in for a Cold One" and the German title actually roughly translates the same.

license it. paramount had nothing to do w/ the redubbing, Germany was the only country they tried this in w/ Cheers. It failed after only 1 year. Cheers, all 11 seasons, got dubbed in 1995 (as "Cheers", not as a new program) and aired on RTL. They used the original English theme song for this version.

Ivar Combrinck hat als Synchregisseur nur Mist gebaut. Den Simpsons + Futurama hat er durch mangelnde Englischkentnisse einfach den besten Humor geraubt und durch dümmliche Falschübersetzungen ersetzt. In diesem Fall (Simpsons) wäre es besser gewesen, man hätte Siegfried Rabe (Syncho-Regie bei den ersten Folgen, die ja auch im ZDF kamen) die Regie gelassen. PS: die Schriftart von "Prost Helmut" passt überhaupt nicht...

They even redubbed the 1995 RTL broadcasts, but they were apparently much better than this attempt...more true to the original story.
