@DKY97 there's a program in order to play the PS3 on your Mac. This cable can only connect it to an external display and will put another system on your system.
@popfizz911 Unfortunately not. This cable is only one-way meaning that you can only send a signal out of the mac, to a tv or monitor. Not to receive a signal to play an Xbox or whatever one uses on the mac's screen.
I've got an ATI Radeon 5970 that has 2x DVI and Mini Display Port. If I use this Mini DP/HDMI Converter to connect my PC to my TV, would it transfer VIDEO and AUDIO?
What most people don't know is that DVI and HDMI are THE SAME EXACT VIDEO SIGNAL. The only difference is that HDMI includes audio within the same cable. This mini display port to HDMI adapter does no more than the mini display port to DVI adapter sold by Apple. The mini display port on Apple laptops DOES NOT SUPPORT AUDIO so this mini display port to HDMI adapter is virtually worthless.
@danhellerjr The ONLY advantage of this adapter is that you can use an HDMI cable that you already have. There are DVI to HDMI cables available everywhere.
@danhellerjr Actually, the one apple sells DOES carry sound, but that feature is only for MacBook Pro 13/15/17-in. mid-2010 release; iMac 21.5/27-in. early-2010 release.
I got "mini display port to HDMI" cable from monoprice. Connect the cable btw my Mac and HDTV (Samsung UN55C6500), change the the Source on my TV to HDMI-2 where the mini display port to HDMI cable was connected. but the TV shows: "No Signal!, check connection..."
What did I miss? It seems the Mac did even detect the external display,
@icasereviews, I did that, it seems the Mac does not see the external display. Settings>Display>Detect Displays did nothing, the TV still don't get any signal. I am thinking perhaps my cable (mini displayport to HDMI) was a defective one
@jujubeeeyu Interesting, maybe you should send them an email concerning your problem. Mine connected instantly when I put it on the right input mode on mny HDTV.
@icasereviews They have made a minidisplay port male combined with a usb male to hdmi female. The problem is that my television does not recognize the format like it did with the adapter that did not have the usb port. My tv reads invalid format. Do you know why or how to fix?
The reason you dont have the bar at the top of the screen is because apple doesnt want you to use a external TV for a monitor. They want you to use a imac or something. You can download software to get the bar on the screen :P
@techkid1000 actually, all you need to do when your mac is plugged into the display, go to the display settings and go to the options tab. from there just uncheck Overscan.
@techkid1000 All you have to do to get the menu bar on the secondary screen is open up the display preference pane and drag it over to the secondary display. Done.
