theres been an actual comparison and amber has the wider vocal range over lea so that should squash any later arguments on who has the better range. but they are both amazing singers. lea just gets overexposed.
Just wow. Wow at both of them. They are both SO GOOD at singing but i'd have to put Lea just a LITTLE bit above Amber in my opinion only because her voice is more nimble, Amber can belt them out just as well if not better but her voice is a bit slow to change notes :/ Just a personal opinion :)

Others are bad quality so I can't say 100% sure, but just 'cause they're on a podium infront of a crowd doesn't mean they sing live, that's what I mean. But some of these sound exactly like the recorded songs do. Like also at 3:00 same as recorded, but like I said can't say 100% sure 'cause the quality is bad. But yeah sounds like it's not live. She has a good voice but not that good.

Her range (from what we've seen) is F3-D6 2.9 octaves, not six.

In short, I hate to resort to bring it back to their characters on Glee, but Amber's voice is more like what you'd want from a recording artist, while Lea's is more like what you'd want from a Broadway actor.

I love Amber...she holds a full octave in chest belts (C5-C6) her voice and the power she has behind it is just incredible...she reminds me of a young Patti Labelle type
Its truly a tough competition. Rachel's voice is more suited to a wider variety of songs sings it's more classical. It's a bit more difficult for amber to mask her rnb quality. Amber vocal range is way more natural. You can tell she's pure natural talent. Both have a similar vocal range but I think Amber can push it more. Also Amber isn't as reliant on heavy echo and reverb. I'd call it a tie and say their pros and cons match up. Love em both.

Imo, the BEST SINGERS are dead even between Amber Riley and Naya Rivera. They have versatility, vocal range, and can slide from fast to slow tempos. Love listening to them! Incredible talent!

@themariamaria95 Now I know for sure you have no singing knowledge at all. Singing INSIDE a room is better quality than singing OUTSIDE. This is because the inside of a room provides walls for sound to bounce off of. Singing outside is difficult. Usually the singer will have to project more or sound engineering will compensate. If someone is singing, depending on their voice, you hear it better in a small room up close than outside from a distance.

I'll put it this way, what Lea Michelle does in her classical-esque singing, Amber Riley can be trained to to do but what Amber Riley usually does in her soulful singing Lea probably cannot impersonate. It isn't, generally, a trained type of singing. Amber Riley has more vocal potential and is a better singer but both have their strengths.

Essentially her voice wouldn't stand out against most female broadway sings. Her voice lacks and effortless. Amber sings a certain way by choice. What does this mean? It means that if she wanted to, she could be TRAINED to sing like Lea. Lea on the other hand, probably can never be trained to sing like Amber. That is the difference.
Although both are great singers, I personally believe Lea Michele is better due to the fact that Amber Riley always sounds the same whenever she sings a song, and although it is phenomenal, after hearing the same techniques in constantly, it gets tedious. Whereas Lea Michele attacks every song, no matter what genre, with versatility. Amber Riley has a soul voice, but that is only really good for rhythm and blues. When Amber sings, the song must suit her, when Lea sings, she makes it suit her.

If u just listen to her in songs like No Air, & more recently, Do They Know It's Christmas, her breathy, classical sound shines through CLEARLY. Amber Riley, although untrained, attacks every song with as much versatility as is afforded seeing as she isn't offered the song range Lea's character is given.
It depends on the genre of the song, if it's hip hop or soul then definitely amber and if it's a ballad or broadway song definitely Lea! Love them both:)

lea is a very good technical singer, but amber has something more, something indescribable.. and for the record if you the "jump" video was included we would see that amber has the better range, the notes she hit toward the end of that song were pure magic
@blktrekie29 Lea's definitely gone that high. There was a video of her doing the Broadway version of 'I Feel Pretty' (pre-Glee) for a concert, but I think it got taken down. One of the negative effects about Glee. Suddenly, a lot of her old videos are taken down due to "copyright" bullshit.

@themariamaria95 I'm a vocal coach with a trained ear. That's why Im able to pick up smaller details compared to you. Lea's mix voice is not as good as Amber's. Lea's mix contain too much chest which sounds strained and squeaky at times. Lea started to struggle from E5 onwards while Amber is able to control her voice.

I think this was to show that contrary to what so many say, Amber and Lea actually have very similar vocal ranges(a fact that many fans will not admit)
They both have equally amazing talent. To me they are flawless. I have to say, though that I have always prefered Lea. For me Lea makes me feel emotion, whatever she's singing I feel. Whenever Amber sings I don't feel it as much, but she does have a phenomenal voice.

@themariamaria95 Now I know for sure you have no singing knowledge at all. Singing INSIDE a room is better quality than singing OUTSIDE. This is because the inside of a room provides walls for sound to bounce off of. Singing outside is difficult. Usually the singer will have to project more or sound engineering will compensate. If someone is singing, depending on their voice, you hear it better in a small room up close than outside from a distance.

I'll put it this way, what Lea Michelle does in her classical-esque singing, Amber Riley can be trained to to do but what Amber Riley usually does in her soulful singing Lea probably cannot impersonate. It isn't, generally, a trained type of singing. Amber Riley has more vocal potential and is a better singer but both have their strengths.

When lea sings, you can tell she is applying training and singing methodologies. If you look her up, she does lots of theatrical sort of stage production. Her singing isn't natural. In other words, Lea is like tight classical choreography and Amber is like free style dancing. Understand?

Essentially her voice wouldn't stand out against most female broadway sings. Her voice lacks and effortless. Amber sings a certain way by choice. What does this mean? It means that if she wanted to, she could be TRAINED to sing like Lea. Lea on the other hand, probably can never be trained to sing like Amber. That is the difference.

Although both are great singers, I personally believe Lea Michele is better due to the fact that Amber Riley always sounds the same whenever she sings a song, and although it is phenomenal, after hearing the same techniques in constantly, it gets tedious. Whereas Lea Michele attacks every song, no matter what genre, with versatility. Amber Riley has a soul voice, but that is only really good for rhythm and blues. When Amber sings, the song must suit her, when Lea sings, she makes it suit her.

If u just listen to her in songs like No Air, & more recently, Do They Know It's Christmas, her breathy, classical sound shines through CLEARLY. Amber Riley, although untrained, attacks every song with as much versatility as is afforded seeing as she isn't offered the song range Lea's character is given.

@themariamaria95 I'm a vocal coach with a trained ear. That's why Im able to pick up smaller details compared to you. Lea's mix voice is not as good as Amber's. Lea's mix contain too much chest which sounds strained and squeaky at times. Lea started to struggle from E5 onwards while Amber is able to control her voice.
