  • You kids are soo awsome, was brought up, with my mom's familly playing the old tunes. My Grandma played the fiddle.Grandpa played the Harmonica, and tap dance,my mom the Orgeon and sang, one of my Uncles played Violin, sang ,tap dance as well...other Uncle played Guitar ,Hamonica and sang.my 2 aunts sangs and played Orgeon.now the grandkids are following their steps. Two of my cousins are Recording Artists, started in Country, and now playing Bluegrass with the help of Ricky Skaggs.Ask me if i'm proud

  • Give them a break, it is a bunch of kids playing very technically correctly. When they get the basics (which they seem to have on this evidence) they can start accentuating. Yes, learning by ear is the normal traditional way, the way I learnt but there is nothing wrong with this. Nice work people, keep it up and I hope you get as much pleasure out of the music as I have over the years.

  • that was so very nice sounding i loved it

  • It's always a delight to see young folks playing the old tunes and carrying on the tradition :)

  • Is this the break? Cause I play the tune on my violin, and it does NOT go like this. Sounds like the break to me.

  • @4everbammboo you're playing it wrong then

  • @DJFozter

Well I just checked my book and this is the break. There are three parts to the song, the tune, break, and back-up.

  • @4everbammboo lol don't learn from books in future then, learn by ear like the rest of us

videos like this are excellent for learning by ear as there are no notes to lead you up the wrong path

    happy playing!

  • good job guys! but if you want to make it sound more like a bluegrass tune, maybe try to add more attitude and accents, if you know what i mean. :) keep it up.

  • @FlyHigh1927 I taught this class and I had learned this the Texas Contest style way. and Now I play it very Celtic. Cause it's what I do more of now. It sounds much different than when I taught it at IFS back in '07.

    thanks for the tips!
