I like vista more than seven. For the ergonomic side (sound/desing), seven is more annoying than vista. I hate the new taskbar, sound, little windows navigation, etc.. I know it can be changed someway but it's ridiculous to do so for a 200$ downgrade. For the compatibility, seven is worst than vista. Some software had to wait months to get a seven compatibility. Finally, seven might be better for laptop usage, but i stick with vista for destop gaming and working.

@WNxAtlas I've used Vista, 7, and XP in the past. Professional for XP, Home Premium for Vista, and Ultimate for 7. Honestly I like Vista best. Admittedly I had tried it in 2008 shortly before Windows 7 was announced so most of the incompatibility issues were fixed. But it just ran so much better (with less viral vulns) than XP and had a nicer look than 7 (my opinion) with not much difference between Vista and 7.
@mauiboynokaoi. You can change the taskbar in Windows 7 to look almost exactly like the one in Vista. Plus you can add quick launch buttons, it's really easy.

Vista fixed that problem, but it offered many new problems as well. By the time the service pack came, it was too late. Everyone hated it. I believe that users who experienced (and had problems with it) should atleast get a discount on 7.

@inogi339 All depending on the actual version of 7 that comes with the computer usually its the cheapest version, but yes its the same as you would buy as the disk. Dells are all right I have had issues with them, but I would still own one though. Its a bit different from XP and it's really easy to pick up on.

Well personally i think Windows is still the reigning (albeit flawed) king of OS's. What Microsoft needs to do is stop building on an old OS and come out with a completely brand new OS written on a totally different kernel. Drop Windows and re-invent itself, so to speak.
However, since Windows 7 is 99% unhackable, and has all the performance of XP, plus all the strengths of Vista with none of the weaknesses, I'd say it's the closest thing to perfect that MS is offering.

i used windows xp for years and i had the blue screen of death like 10 times, then i upgraded to vista and it sucks it is sooo slow, now i use windows 7 ultimate and it is very stable and it like so f****** fast that i can not follow it. Like now I'm using XP and it runs like a charm, except for a few script errors (which I now got rid of) so it has to be something that was in your XP that gave you the blue screen of death not the XP itself.

Ive been using M$ operating systems since the (MS)DOS 3 days - and windows 7 is my favourite so far - it does everything I want of an OS. Oh, and Ive never had a virus, ever!
Comes down to user functionality. I mean 7 looks great but the apps I generally use apply to XP. I have run XP, Vista, and now 7. If you want to work I would stick with XP. Vista and 7 are great for a casual user but XP is still the workhorse. It's really disappointing to wait so long for a new OS only to return to default. I run XP on my LT and 7 on a DT. So basically I have the work and play system. Other option is to run a duel boot system with XP and 7.

Half of my computers run Windows XP Professional, and they are flawless. The other half, run Windows Vista. One of them though, also runs Windows 7, and Ubuntu with it. I've played around with the Windows 7, and I think that it IS a truley amazing operating system. The thing is, my XP Machines are like... 1 second, faster than the 7 laptop is.
and 1 second means nothing to be honest, just slipstream the windows 7 and remove all the services you dont need. My netbook with a slimlined version of windows 7 is aster than my default xp on my laptop (laptop has 4gb of ram, netbook has 1gb)
From what I have seen Windows 7 looks good so far. I haven't used it yet though. However, if it turns out to be anything like Vista...there's no way I am upgrading it. Vista was a shit hole! If Windows 7 is anything like Vista, I am switching to a Mac. If Microsoft is stupid enough to release another Vista they no longer deserve my business. 7looks good though. So here's hoping!

200-4000 errors in a month. (thats how computers be slow) and also more program crashing and stuff like error messages.
windows xp may get 15-500 registry errors in a month.

Windows 7, honestly, isnt much of a difference from vista. they just add some lil tweaks, and changed the taskbar to the "superbar"
what you can do on 7, you can do on xp. you can ronly do it BETTER on xp, because you need a shit ton of RAM to run. Xp can run on 200MB 7 (preferred) needs 3GB

@WNxAtlas I've used Vista, 7, and XP in the past. Professional for XP, Home Premium for Vista, and Ultimate for 7. Honestly I like Vista best. Admittedly I had tried it in 2008 shortly before Windows 7 was announced so most of the incompatibility issues were fixed. But it just ran so much better (with less viral vulns) than XP and had a nicer look than 7 (my opinion) with not much difference between Vista and 7.

@mauiboynokaoi. Yeah, I never liked the look of XP. I mean, it was a huge improvement over 200 and 98 and 95 but still, I was constantly downloading themes for it. It was annoying. Vista fixed that problem, but it offered many new problems as well. By the time the service pack came, it was too late. Everyone hated it. I believe that users who experienced (and had problems with it) should atleast get a discount on 7.

@inogi339 All depending on the actual version of 7 that comes with the computer usually its the cheapest version, but yes its the same as you would buy as the disk. Dells are all right I have had issues with them, but I would still own one though. Its a bit different from XP and it's really easy to pick up on.

im not a fan of windows. but what i do believe is a small ironic fact os x 10.6 snow leopard. is not a rewrite , however it is an upgrade price. Microsoft on the other hand did not rewrite their OS either, but they priced as a full OS windows upgrade. This i believe is a core example of why i prefer apple. they care about their customers. Well personally i think Windows is still the reigning (albeit flawed) king of OS's. What Microsoft needs to do is stop building on an old OS and come out with a completely brand new OS written on a totally different kernel. Drop Windows and re-invent itself, so to speak.
However, since Windows 7 is 99% unhackable, and has all the performance of XP, plus all the strengths of Vista with none of the weaknesses, I'd say it's the closest thing to perfect that MS is offering.

Like now I'm using XP and it runs like a charm, except for a few script errors (which I now got rid of) so it has to be something that was in your XP that gave you the blue screen of death not the XP itself.

Comes down to user functionality. I mean 7 looks great but the apps I generally use apply to XP. I have run XP, Vista, and now 7. If you want to work I would stick with XP. Vista and 7 are great for a casual user but XP is still the workhorse. It's really disappointing to wait so long for a new OS only to return to default. I run XP on my LT and 7 on a DT. So basically I have the work and play system. Other option is to run a duel boot system with XP and 7.

Half of my computers run Windows XP Professional, and they are flawless. The other half, run Windows Vista. One of them though, also runs Windows 7, and Ubuntu with it. I've played around with the Windows 7, and I think that it IS a truley amazing operating system. The thing is, my XP Machines are like... 1 second, faster than the 7 laptop is.

From what I have seen Windows 7 looks good so far. I haven't used it yet though. However, if it turns out to be anything like Vista...there's no way I am upgrading it. Vista was a shit hole! No it's just windows vista, I'\ve used it from alpha, Most of the OS has been rewritten for speed, Put it this way, windows 7 works on this netbook, reallyy really well. Vista died, it worked, but you could hear my flash drive literally melting.
