Allowing R borders to be disregarded with little national commitment without doing a damn thing about it has resulted in growing mayhem by illegal criminals . The dark side of this invaison includes horrific crime being perpetrated by the hard core criminal element of the illegal population. The cost-benefit tradeoff of tolerating illegals/ criminals , how many Americans do YOU accept being molested, raped & murdered each yr to save 10 cents on a head of lettuce?
My husband is the only "gringo" willing to work the fields from Salinas all the way to Paso Robles. Most could not make it. I remember his first day of work he crawled up the front steps on his hands and knees. He went back and proved himself. He is working for the same wages as the "farm workers" cause we need the money. I am working for pennies on the dollar. I made more when I was sixteen but I have to care for my family.
Oh my god, wages would go up? What a nightmare, what ever would we do. Well, we know gringos never had a history of harvesting their own food before Mexicans got here, yeah, never was a white farmer in the whole world before we had illegal Mexican immigrants, nope, nope, nobody ever knew how to farm, oh wait! Except my grandfather and my father and everybody before that on my father's side who used to work on a goddamn farm, you fucking asshole! And he lived in the north, too.
@Redfingers Did they work for the same amount of money Mexican workers get? My dad came here in 1943 worked until he was 83. He calculated that he worked almost 2 years for free. Many of the farm owners underpaid him, and others times he wasn't paid at all. He developed Parkinson's and his doctors believed it was linked to all the years he worked in the fields. He was often sprayed by crop dusted while he worked.
"much of that food will come from undocumented immigrant workers" ... no it doesn't. Also - the government should go after corporations and people who hire illegal immigrants. Don't call them "undocumented" call them what they are ... Illegal aliens.
Sorry but this is just good capitalism. These workers are willing to sell their labour for far less. Let them have it. In a decade they will be displaced by workers willing to do the same job for a bowl of rice and a roof over their heads. A decade after that the next group will yeild up their human rights for a bowl of rice and the opportunity to ensure that their offspring inherit their spot in the field. It's not slavery it's just good capitalism. Money and markets are hell on earth.
I'd also like to point out that the tax code for contractors and for agriculture encourage exploitation and underhanded dealings. We've basically put organized crime and slavers in charge of both industries.
This is one of the best short recaps of the inequities involved in comprehensive immigration reform that I've seen in quite a while. If more people knew the whys and hows, there might be less inflammatory, unjust rhetoric and nonsense. Thanks for your efforts for my neighbors and their children.
gringos are hypocrite and lazy, only when their stupid patriotism is exacerbated by the puppet's media or Alex Jones they seem to remember who is feeding them and supporting their laziness, pussies that let their rogue government destroy the world complacently while their dumb kids join the army.
@MustacheVerra Division is the tool for dominance they use to lower wages, wage wars, discriminate people and ultimately stay in power using the stupid to build the pyramid on the one dollar bill ... and just to let you know, I am an American citizen too ... and no I am not organized, just not dumbed down ...
Yeah I need more cheap labor, shut up you fucking asshole.
Unemployment is the problem, Wal mart is the problem.
You people pretend you're liberal, if you're so god damn liberal how come you don't support labor rights and protections from the federal government and minimum wage standards? You people are obsessed with cheap shit. Fuck you stupid illegal cunts and fuck your brothers across the Atlantic in India. We don't need you. You're destroying us. No more outsourcing.
Undocumented farm workers have poor hygiene, they defecate all over the fruits & vegetables they pick. This is why all those cantaloupes got contaminated with E. Coli. Documented farm workers on the other hand practice good hygiene and wash their hands after defecating like all employees should.
@ZedAlfa273 I'll partially agree with that because I've seen it with my own eyes.Another problem that I saw was 7 year olds helping and crapping in the fields. The problem was the main farmer did'nt provide portable facilitation on a remote lot.
@JanRichardus Yep, all irony all sarcasm. I will gladly pay more for the food I eat if it means a decent living wage for those who pick it, whether they're undocumented or not.
Harvest work in France is well paid & documented & much appreciated but seasonal & people must have work papers & be here legally. This being said, there are undocumented workers who've been here for decades, taxes are taken from them, & they get NO BENEFITS. They should be regularized. If you are not French & have a child here, the child can only apply for citizenship at age 18. It's not automatic. I married here & had to apply, long method. Took years. No automatic work permit, either.
Because of NAFTA and globalization, mexicans are treated poorly in their own country, with terrible working conditions. There's no chance for these people. The only humane thing to do is to open the border indefinitely. If we believe in capitalism and the free market and competition, an open border is key. People ignore the fact that trade is a positive sum game.
I was talking about this exact topic last night. Invited to come back as illegals after the Bracero program ended... Interestingly, the Bracero program has been described by some past senators as legalized slavery. So, nothing changed before and after 1964. Now, corporate farmers bring illegal migrants into the U.S. paying human traffickers..
@asphyxiafeeling Try to look on the bright side man do not absorb yourself in sadness only depression and suicide will follow. I do not know your situation just trying to give you some hope.

Slavery was ended in 1862. Lets keep it that way and keep the illegals out.
Those people have no rights when they get here and are exploited by corporations. They are better off just staying in Mexico.
