For me, the most impressive thing about this build is when you listen to the audio you hear...music. Not rattles and resonances from various trim panels and doors and wiper arms. Truly a testament to the skill and hard work that went in to prepping the vehicle. Awesome!
Pete I never get tired of watching your videos.. Hope life is treating you well. I consider you the King of Bass for less.. If half of the people out there got off this trip about size and watts and focused on acoustics instead I think the world would be a more beautiful sounding place.. Nice work bro!!
hey pete, i know u get alot of comments and mail, but please let me know how to contact u for u to make me a custom box for me. that way i can discuss what i have and how much everything would be worth to make and ship out. please gwt at back me if u can.
Hey can anybody help me out... I got a toyota celica 00-02 I have 2 12 DVC Mtx 9500's and a t20001bd I would like to know how can I get close to getting a 150db... Subs up port back or both up!!! Right now subs and port back @ 28 hertz 6 1/2 cubes. Money I'm going to get the car metered to see what I'm hitting in the car
@lunesta187 it's gonna be hard to hit that with a box tuned that low in my opinion...if all you care about is db's just tune it high and play songs/tones with bass lines with the same freuency as your box is tuned to you'll have a one note wonder, but you'll hit a high db.
@HexiBase Do you have some kind of method to set your ssf? Some people say that you should set it just a bit under the enclosure tuning frequency. Is that true?
Considering how thorough you are at essentially everything, I'm surprised you don't post a list of the tracks used in your videos. I don't recognize very many tracks in your videos at all, but I like your taste in music. I hope it's not too much to ask to post a list of the tracks used in this and other demo videos : ).
@31Orcas The idea is for everyone to arrive at their own playlist as opposed to just copying off of one another; that's how mainstream music is born *gag*
@7E0N Well, 150dB isn't really that difficult to accomplish these days, especially given the gear and the amount of prep work that went into getting this vehicle ready for it.
@HitemWithTheFlex while the resonant frequency of the vehicle has to do with tuning the box or enclosure can be tuned however you would like. Yes the vehicles peak may give you a higher frequency than what your going for but that was a burp on a sine wave. I was just stating that his peak was a little high for me. I also just helped build a wind tunnel tuned to 12hz though so maybe I am a little biased. And this particular vehicle still hits mid fifties at 24hz. It's what he wanted
@cotyballs i know how all that works, i was stating a generality, but even having a enclosure tuned to 30hz or so, you can peak at 45-55hz or around that area. but i understand what you are saying. i cant stand "burp" vehicles so im not big on anything above 45hz. But i bet his (Hexi's) car sounds amazing (i know he doesnt use his for burps fyi).
What is that track at 3:33? It sounds like "Phaeleh - Afterglow (feat. Soundmouse) Akira Kiteshi Remix"! [youtube.com/watch?v=SDQ2LIBNBkI] - YOU HAVE AN AMAZING SETUP - I have loved watching the build over a series of videos~! Also quite a few nice little cameras! I keep saving money, someday Pete, someday... I will have a very nice system. hahah
You have already established your name over and over/ Anybody who has reservations, is a clueless ass hat...... I look forward to seeing you around for sometime sir!!!!
You can be musical , hit notes with accuracy, punch, hold, deepness, fullness. yet still please the SPL gang. a 152. not shabby at all . No matter how you look at things.
@TylerTron21 Well, as far as the design goals of this setup are concerned, the pressure reading at the dash is largely coincidental. I wouldn't have cared if I put up low 120s as long as there was no difference in sound.
@HexiBase Just going off what ive seen from these build log / update videos all i can say is that it looks to be impressive. I like that the electrical is still so minimal. Im interesting in where the hybrid woofers will end up.
@NM31 I try to steer clear of that, especially since the music that accentuates the strong points of one setup may not do so for another. This was just some noise blaring to appease the audience. Most of the time, I'm playing Jazz and Trip-Hop.
@FxOxC Well, it was probably a lot more than 1400W. As I've said in the video description, I'm powering this with an M4a. Though I'm still working to get rid of as much of the flex as possible.
May I say that your work has had a huge impact on my life. All your builds have been impressive as hell. I have always web interested in speakers, subwoofers, and enclosure design. Your work has kept me in me interested in my passion, engineering. So I am doing 2 yours of community college, then hope to major in architectural engineering, with my minor being acoustical engineering. Thanks for doing what you do!
Also, what are some good electric or dubstep songs you listen to?
@21duthie Bare in mind that acoustic curriculum typically covers recording studio engineering, not so much what I do. Look into physics and trigonometry.
sounds really good I have an atomic ap 8 gonna have to put in an order for a box design for it i'm not happy with the fourth order design that its in now
@cardboardcat15 Thanks. But the bit with the TL was mainly to appease those who prefer to look at numbers than to listen to their speakers. And this setup is most certainly intended for listening.
@calvinblinkee Not just yet. Once I beef up my electrical system and wire the voice coils in parallel, then I'll more or less be milking them for all that they're worth. But I'm in no hurry.
@MrDownkiller No idea. I don't yank designs out of thin air. I'd have to model your vehicle and run some simulations to see how your 10s behave in different enclosure types. Also, "perfect" is subjective based on the kind of sound you're looking for.
Holy ******* ****!!?!! I never would have thought that I would see those numbers pop up with an all out sq setup. But then again.. This is what you get when you do it right from the start! Respect!! Few people get over 150 even with one note wonder boxes. I almost feel like traveling to the states from Sweden just to be able to put my ass in your front seat. Wow.. It's a shame that videos can't be felt the same way as your car.
@DTDahl Quite frankly, it wouldn't have surprised me if I scored 120dB. How it sounds and how it meters are two completely different experiences. In fact, a number isn't even an experience; just a flimsy quantifier of one.
Love your vids man... Maybe i'm a dumbass and I can't navigate your site, or it may just be that its too variable, but how much... ball park. do you charge for a box design... just design, not build?
@Jaimesnoise There's a $50 flat engineering fee. You can also add various upgrades to speed the process along or to get additional performance data, (or both.)
@NickRon06 I don't really do SPL. That bit at the end was just something that I wanted to get out of the way because I knew I'd be hounded about it like it meant something. (Which it really doesn't.)
@HexiBase sure, but impedance raise would need to be high to use all of the amp output voltage it can output, and not thermal overdrive the speakers... would you sometime meter what power at some freq. you get from the amp?
@First2ner My impedance rise is actually localized to a pair of very narrow points. Throughout most of the operating bandwidth, it stays below 5 ohms.
@FatManRepair Well, there's not going to be an SPL build done in my car. I just wanted to get the Term-LAB bit out of the way since it's the only way that some people "listen" to their stereo. It's just going to be music from here on forward.
