albino monster sucks, many will disagree with me but, just listen to portnoy's awake mapex kit, and compare.
It was his best drumset in DT's history, the siamese monster was the less tama-sounding kit, so it was kinda good... but well, it's my very personal opinion.
and as regards octavarium, I think it's their worst cd, ToT was really heavy, and I liked it a lot.
I actually once agreed with you, and felt the Siamese monster (which I still don't like) and albino monster were unecessary and were just not good. But, after watching In Constant Motion, as well as Mike's live performances, I can see why he uses the kit. Personally, I like the Awake Kit the most too.
hey great to see at least one person agrees with me about the mapex awake kit xD, don't get me wrong I didn't say that the siamese monster was useless or anything of the kind, I think that setup was just great, but it would have been a lot better if the kit was made by mapex instead of tama
Oh! I thought you meant the kit wasn't as good because of the setup. I like the way mapex kits sound better too, but I like tama as well. I had a problem with the 6 inch tymp tom that Portnoy used as a floor tom, which produced no sound and made his performances a little lacking because he wouldn't complete fills properly all the time. I think the Albino Monster and his new Mirage monster are both great though.
i have to agree. octavarium is their best song. but im not so sure about their best album. it was a great one no doubt though. and yeah wtf petruccis like jacked not fat haha. hes like zeus but with shredding skills.
Dude, ToT wasn't that bad, and Octavarium is their best album. Just because it isn't all heavy metal doesn't mean it sucks. "Octavarium" is their best song ever, you cannot deny the amazingness of that song. Plus, I doubt this CD is as bad as you say it is.
Octavarium, the Root of all Evil, and Panic were the only memorable ones that are worth noting. Almost all the songs on ToT were very memorable, the only real weak ones being Vacant and well thats it. While all the songs on SC aren't necessarily bad, there aren't very many OUTSTANDING ones like we're used to from Dream Theater. The only great on is In the Presence of Enemies.
Jordan was born in '56, Petrucci, Portnoy, and Myung were born in '67, and Labrie was born in '63. They're pretty old for the kind of music they make.
Prophets of war bad???? is one of the best songs of the album, its really emotive,BTW i agree that In the prescence of enemies and ministry of lost souls are the best ones... SC owns!!!!
i' ve already listened SC and let me tell you that is one of the best DT albums ive ever heard Constant Motion is the Worst track of the album and it still kicks ass!!! i will never lose my faith on them
I can already tell this album will be more aggressive than Octavarium. That was a great album, but in a way, it seemed like they were kinda going throught the motions. This sounds like more in line with Awake and Train of Thought. Nice job. By the way, the people who wanna talk shit about this band and its fans, save your breath. You're not going to change a Dream Theater fan's mind. We'll all be collectively cranking this shit up come June 5.
For those who posted bad comments about SC please STFU, it will be a great album, the first time i heard COnstant Motion, i didnt liked it, but after a couple of times i started to see the quality of the song. we all now that the I&W era has ended, but.. Do we really need and I&W2?? we dont, if all Dt albums were like I&W or SFAM it would be boring

Man "Forsaken" sounds really awesome! We want more of that stuff! This album sounds like it's going to be awesome, but i must admit that i've been waiting for something a bit more progressive from DT for a long time, like Images and Words. I'm not saying that THIS album doesn't have some of that, but these 2 songs just aren't progressive in that particular way. Still, can't wait for this album! It's gonna be fucking awesome!
I'm pretty sure he didn't literally mean that there's going to be a song about a "vampire". If anything, there will be a couple of lyrics that allude to something like a vampire. Are you guys thinking that there's actually going to be lyrics like "I'm a vampire, RAWR"?
Face it, playing 7/8-4/4 is not unique anymore, especially if done four albums in a row. So if you're new to DT and think you're listening to progressive music, you're not.
What really pisses me of though, is when a 'new fan' runs around and calls this new direction "progressive". Progressive my ass. The word 'progressive' is so overused nowadays, every other band likes to call themselves "progressive" just because they have odd (which are not actually odd at all) time signatures. In that case, why don't we classify "Prodigy" as progressive? They have odd time signatures in some of their songs...
Since my expectations were extremely low for this album, I was rather pleasantly suprised upon hearing "Constant Motion" and "The Dark Eternal Night". However, I belive that DT is somehow running backwards in time. Instead of progressing to a more unique sound, they're doing the same shit that has already been done 20 years ago...
Pretty good song, unlike their most recent songs. However Petrucci still has the worst stage presence, he still hasnt learnt to put his guitar down a bit, he isn't a fucking jazz guitarist from the 40's

Definitely not My Chemical Romance, but listen to stuff like Estradasphere, Fishtank Ensemble, Secret Chiefs 3. It's much better than their squealing 80's guitars. And Steve Vai and about a million others blow Pettruci away. A good shredder is a dime a dozen.
Current fans could definitely find something better than Dream Theater to listen to. If it's pure talent you're looking for, there're millions of other bands out there with much more talent than Dream Theater. And honestly, that's what Dream Theater's all about.

Petrucci does shred too much, but he can play very intense and emotional solos with just a few notes (spirit carries on, octavarium).

As usual full of nonsense remarks. I was at musicmeter dot nl and where one fan said song A was bad, the next said song B was the worst and A rocked. It's kind of fun.
DT and JMJ are the only two artists I can listen to every day without ever getting bored.
Some people even say DT is lacking emotion. Geeeee get real. 95% of the people living around live at the level of animals.

Hey, i'm not really surprised that the last fan said he especially came from morocco to see Dream theater, I'm moroccan too and i can tell that there's many people here that appreciate dream theater's music, it really shows how much the band is amazing...for everyone!

albino monster sucks, many will disagree with me but, just listen to portnoy's awake mapex kit, and compare.
It was his best drumset in DT's history, the siamese monster was the less tama-sounding kit, so it was kinda good... but well, it's my very personal opinion.
and as regards octavarium, I think it's their worst cd, ToT was really heavy, and I liked it a lot.

I actually once agreed with you, and felt the Siamese monster (which I still don't like) and albino monster were unecessary and were just not good. But, after watching In Constant Motion, as well as Mike's live performances, I can see why he uses the kit. Personally, I like the Awake Kit the most too.

Oh! I thought you meant the kit wasn't as good because of the setup. I like the way mapex kits sound better too, but I like tama as well. I had a problem with the 6 inch tymp tom that Portnoy used as a floor tom, which produced no sound and made his performances a little lacking because he wouldn't complete fills properly all the time. I think the Albino Monster and his new Mirage monster are both great though.

Dude, ToT wasn't that bad, and Octavarium is their best album. Just because it isn't all heavy metal doesn't mean it sucks. "Octavarium" is their best song ever, you cannot deny the amazingness of that song. Plus, I doubt this CD is as bad as you say it is.

Octavarium, the Root of all Evil, and Panic were the only memorable ones that are worth noting. Almost all the songs on ToT were very memorable, the only real weak ones being Vacant and well thats it. While all the songs on SC aren't necessarily bad, there aren't very many OUTSTANDING ones like we're used to from Dream Theater. The only great on is In the Presence of Enemies.

I can already tell this album will be more aggressive than Octavarium. That was a great album, but in a way, it seemed like they were kinda going throught the motions. This sounds like more in line with Awake and Train of Thought. Nice job. By the way, the people who wanna talk shit about this band and its fans, save your breath. You're not going to change a Dream Theater fan's mind. We'll all be collectively cranking this shit up come June 5.

i believe that the only reason y pplz r sayin this new album is not prog anymore is cus they using only common time but rly prog isn't all about time signature. and this band can do w/e they want and within wat they believe they want to do they can establish meaning in the music. i still think their melodic musical ways r prog but i do agree that they're not using much odd time signature. bottom line DT's still good.

Hey guys! Calm down. Nobody can judge what will be the next album only with this PROMOTIONAL video. Dont forget that DT is a PROGressive band. Here we just see some fragment of a little bunch of new song. And we know that these song are long and probably progressive. Just wait to listen the new album and maybe after that you'll be able to make a review of what DT became.

Man "Forsaken" sounds really awesome! We want more of that stuff! This album sounds like it's going to be awesome, but i must admit that i've been waiting for something a bit more progressive from DT for a long time, like Images and Words. I'm not saying that THIS album doesn't have some of that, but these 2 songs just aren't progressive in that particular way. Still, can't wait for this album! It's gonna be fucking awesome!

The word 'progressive' is so overused nowadays, every other band likes to call themselves "progressive" just because they have odd (which are not actually odd at all) time signatures. In that case, why don't we classify "Prodigy" as progressive? They have odd time signatures in some of their songs...

Since my expectations were extremely low for this album, I was rather pleasantly suprised upon hearing "Constant Motion" and "The Dark Eternal Night". However, I belive that DT is somehow running backwards in time. Instead of progressing to a more unique sound, they're doing the same shit that has already been done 20 years ago...

i like constant motion and dark eternal night. But DAMM so heavy in my opinion. But thats just me i kinda like the heavy metal part of dream theater. Yeah sure there might be other good bands out there that i don't know of... but Dream theater is like a 100 times better then all the other crap out there that people like.

Definitely not My Chemical Romance, but listen to stuff like Estradasphere, Fishtank Ensemble, Secret Chiefs 3. It's much better than their squealing 80's guitars. And Steve Vai and about a million others blow Pettruci away. A good shredder is a dime a dozen.
