  • Actually, from 1:31 to 1:48 it is the Brand New Day chorus tune, but just with a sadder tone, while in Brand New Day it was more angry.

  • AND I WONT FEEEEELLLL.....a thing

  • Cold someone explain the ending for me?

I think he joined the Evil League but then left because his heart wasn't in it. Am i right?

  • @Dstorm20xx No he didn't leave. The end means that under all this Dr. Horrible Stuff there is still only Billy who had archieved all he wanted but is still not happy because Penny is dead. This Evil Villain stuff is only a kind of mascerade. Thats what i understood

  • @Dstorm20xx ThePowerfulThree got it spot on I think. Basically there is Dr. Horrible who is apparently pleased at all he has achieved, now the most horrific of all villians and completely feared but inside he's still Billy and he can't actually be happy because the one thing he really wanted was Penny and she's dead. For all outwards appearances though he's still Dr. Horrible of the Evil League.

  • @VinuVonVin Brand New Day appears to kick in at 1:31. just so ya know.

  • 14 people are bad horse's mares

  • Dr. Horrible I should have known you were behind this!

  • So you think justice has a voice? That we all have a choice?

  • I think penny realized she liked Billy when he brought her the frozen yogurt, but she already in a relationship and too passive to dump him. The way she seemed sad and said he was "pretty ok" and sang for Billy to cheer him up. I'd say she was just like Billy - to shy to tell him she liked him. Like when they first talked in the alley, and she looked so sad that he ignored her and she looked eager for him to come to her meeting thing.

  • I'm almost weeping. This is strangely powerful. I love how 'Brand New Day' kicks in...Too amazing.

  • @rassilonsvids Uh... that's not Brand New Day kicking in, that's Score (the opening theme). At least, I don't /recognise/ any of Brand New Day in this one.

  • 14 people don't feel a thing.

  • 14 people are tone deaf.

  • idk, Penny was so easy... I mean after sleeping with a douche she realizes she likes Billy afterall? I don't really sympathize with that character, meh. DH/Billy should've kept looking for a better girl.

  • @cloverforluck When did she realize she likes Billy? She was into the hammer the whole time. She even said at the end "It's ok, Captain Hammer will save us".

  • @lawlzerskates She was waiting for Billy with yogurt at the laundry place, and the lyrics of the song, "This is perfect for me, so they say, I guess he's pretty okay" Pretty okay isn't something you'd describe a guy you're 'into'.

  • @cloverforluck She was waiting for him as a friend. That didn't mean she was into Billy. She clearly had problems with Hammer, but she liked him because of how he helped the homeless. She didn't like his speech, but her last line showed that she still liked Captain Hammer. She was never into Billy.

  • @lawlzerskates Okay, buddy, if that's how you see it, I'm fine with that.

  • @lawlzerskates She was in a guy who was there, Billy just wasn't and, instead of just trying to be near her like any normal human being would do, he turned it all upside down and it all ended bad. If he tried just talking, she might've stayed with him.

  • @lawlzerskates

Yeah plus Hammer is a big muscular guy and shrimpy guys just can't compare.

  • @lawlzerskates She was holding onto one man, who happened to be a jackass, but nevertheless. In her quest of helping everybody around she needed a strong shoulder, but she never was "into" him. That last line was not said with heart, but with abandon.

  • you should use Free-Recorder so that you won't get all the static background noise...

  • Has anyone besides me noticed the sarcasm in the lyrics from 0:00 to 0:25 ??

"Here lies everything, the world I wanted at my feet" Penny! "My victory's complete, so hail to the king" he's basically calling himself an idiot at that part! At least in my opinion.

  • @Kialea: Wow! Have anyone helped you to Notice that? or have you realised by yourself?¿?¿ you are pretty clever...

PD: Have you noticed that sarcasm too?... genious

    With love Dr. Horrible muahahahaha

  • The ending really through me off. I never expected it to end that way. It was extremely sad. And the song was great. I love Neil's singing more than anyone else's.

  • @MythicalMistress josh whedon, We should have seen it coming.

  • It may be 43 minutes, it may be produced for the internet and showable on TV with commercials, but this movie out weighs most every other movie made today.

  • @bobobano

i hate to disagree with you because i love the movie too

but if you condensed every movie ever made into the size that it was intended to be they would be much better

if you tried to make Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog twice it's length it would be a really drawn out musical that would look bad on NPH's IMDB account

  • ironic that you can hear a part of Brand New Day. I almost cried when Penny died. seriously

  • It's so dramatic how he cuts off after saying "a thing". It makes me want to cry

  • The only blog which can make the whole world Neil.

  • It's so very ironic. Penny died, not because Dr Horrible/Billy had become utterly ruthless, but because the good still in him made him hesitate to kill Hammer. This demands irony-meters with log scales.

  • @tankiawee Whats also ironic is that Dr Horrible achieved his dream by killing the girl he loved

  • God, I love NPH's voice. He's amazing.

  • If in sequel will not be Felicia i will never watch it! This song... and ending... great...

  • BAD HORSE IS A HORSE!!! OMG that was hilarious!! but, very very sad...

  • The ending ... perfect ... sad and fitting .... but sooo sad .... I love it, but I didn't expect such a tragic ending - HOWEVER - it's the perfect ending ... I only hope there is more to come ... the stroy can't be finished yet, can it?

  • It can, but I hope it's not =D

  • This song is so awesome, it gives me chills

  • I wish people wouldn't make a sequel. It was so perfectly tragic as it is. T_T

  • I'm worried they'll kill it.

I'm not opposed to a two hour theatrical remake, though.

  • @ExclusiveCheese yeah I'm not opposed to this idea either I'd love to see two hours of superhero/villian goodness

  • yes it's tragic and a great end. but dont u think that a sequel with a delirious Dr. Horrible who sees Penny in his Horribleness :P and captain hammer who also sees a Penny and a fun finale wherein they facedown and the 2 Penny's talk :P something strange like that. As long as its funny, there are some good songs, (A) and Felicia Day is in it (A) i'll watch it. And they can introduce us properly to Bad Horse :) and Dead Bowie xD.

  • evil to begin with remember the seen

evil to begin with. remember the scene*

    sorry for the mistake :$

  • @fuzzybear

ofcourse its better then hannah montana....

    @zombivamp

Dude ofcourse he's not evil, he's never been evil to begin with remember the seen about johny snow: " There's kids in that park!" and the first sentence of this song also sums it up:

Here lies everything, the world I wanted at my feet." So the world he wanted? or the one he wanted at his feet? So he is just heartbroken and puts up a façade to the outside world.

And a sequel could be cool. With maybe a delirious Billy?

  • What i think the message behind this was, He got the world he wanted because he's a bad guy, but at what cost? He lost his "love" and he has no one to share his life with now. Yes he's a good guy in general, when he makes the kids comment, But he's still a super villain. He's what you would call a tragic hero...

  • Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is way better than Hannah Montana

  • @Fuzzybear3312

Not even in the same Universe. Dr. Horrible is THAT much better.

  • @trackboy186 touche

  • @Fuzzybear3312 That's not saying much allow me to say that Dr. Horrible is better than Jesus.

  • @Fuzzybear3312 almost everything is

  • @Fuzzybear3312 How dare you compare Dr. Horrible with Hannah Montana D:

  • @Fuzzybear3312 ripping out my pubes with tweasers and then bathing in a tub of tabasco sauce is better than Hannah Montana, but Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is way better than other good things.

  • @Fuzzybear3312 Why would you even compare the two? I mean, I don't disagree with what you said, I just don't understand why anyone needed to acknowledge this in a comment. Isn't it needless to say?

  • This is such a sad song. =( tear.

  • There is going to be a sequel. Its in production now

  • But????? it ended so good what is this one going to be about??

  • While a sequal would be nice, I'd rather it be left where it is. The ending already works. Making a sequal means risking ruining it.

  • Then end of this is so heart wrenching. Dr. Horrible just wanted the bast for her. Capitan Hammer just wanted to do her and at the end she still said "Captain Hammer will save us". But there is still the end where he's back to Billy at the end so maybe he's not all evil. Or maybe I'm just over analyzing this. But if you like the series, check out the comic.

  • @zombivamp

    THERE'S A COMIC?

  • @lycaonpictus77

Dark Horse comics put out a prequel comic book. It's only a one shot though.

  • @zombivamp

    WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN.

Okay, so I'm totally going to go buy that now. Thaaank you for spreading this precious, precious knowledge.

  • damn, lovin this

  • Actually he says "I won't feel a thing". He's dead inside now.

  • I dont think they should have a sequal for this. It is best if they leave Dr. Horrible like this. A guy that wont hold back on the world because he lost the one he wanted most.

  • @iluvimports

    Or?

A heartbroken civilian who loathes himself. I usually don't like ambiguity, but in this case it worked out nicely because you don't really know who he turned out to be.

  • I really think this story works best without a sequel.

  • I think so too, but that ending just bugged me and I'd love to see a follow up. The whole part where it goes to him in a hoodie saying "a thing" just sets me off I don't know why.

  • If you think about it, he got exactly what he wanted. Remember right before the heist, he said "Maybe I should. . ."? He ignored Penny to get into the ELE. Just what he wanted.

But yeah, I wish he hadn't.

  • It's quite interesting that this particular song is paced differently than all of the other songs. Which in my opinion makes it the best song as it's perfectly timed with the ending.

  • Well its actually a reprise of "Brand New Day"

  • I love the photos you used for the slide show. Where'd you find them?

  • very good

  • A sequel O YESH! :D I loved this it was so cute :3

  • I WANT Penny to come back. But I know it'd ruin the sequel.

    So...Goodbye. Forever. ='(

  • sequel?! when's that coming out? :D

  • No idea. All the guy who made it has said that he's looking at numerous projects but a sequel is one he's eyeing up in particular.

But I'm guessing hopefully within 2 years. =)

  • maybe it will happen when we have another writers strike.

  • I want to capture his voice in a jar. :3

  • i wonder if they purposely made thirteen songs for this series beacause it looks good to end with this "jugdement day" song last.

  • just try imagine my surprise. I've never seen any of this authors works before, and here was a musical starting out with jokes and exaggerated characters. I never thought it would end that way...

I like it though. its brilliant. Opposing forces could never compromise, and in the end, none of them were happy.

  • That's because the entire cast weren't clones of NPH.

If you cloned NPH to fill every role, your movie automatically gets a happy ending.

I don't pretend to understand the physics involved, but they say its quite a bizarre transformation.

  • they are going to ruin the nicely plotted conclusion with a sequel...

at least we get to see Dr horrible get penny though

  • i hope not. i hope it has him coming to realize the horrors of his actions, and reacting to them in some way. perhaps finally getting his social reform, but having it end in a "The Dark Knight" way, in which he doesnt get to bask in the glow.

seriously... if they retcon the ending with some kind of "Time Machine" Thing, i'll be seriously pissed. if it was all in his head, i'll appreciate it, but if we're to take the last frame as him regretting his actions, it'll be lame to bring her back.

  • did you even read my comment? i was making a storyline comparison in what they COULD do. not saying that they were similar in quality or beauty.

As for penny, hell no. that'd fall into all the hollywood cliche's. it'd be horrible. it'd TOTALLY kill off the point of the story.

  • The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Poor Penny couldn't change his mind, and she paid for his naive arrogance. I think this is right up there on my list of good, depressing movies next to Schindler's List and 1984.

  • i mean, yea its depressing but it can NEVER compare to Schindler's List... Joss Whedon MAY be a genius but not compared to that :)

  • It's a bit hard to compare the two, wouldn't you say? I mean, Schindler's List was based off of something real. If you learn anything learn that real life tragedy and wickedness can never be trumped by fictional versions.

  • lol you're joking right?

  • You could look at it that way, or you could look at it like he couldn't change HER naive innocence/compassion. She was a bit thick to the end, proclaiming "It's okay... it's okay... Captain Hammer will save us..."

Really, what's sad is that they never made it to a middle ground.

  • As much as I love this and would give anything to have more of it, I don't think it can be improved upon--they should just leave it as-is: sequelless.

  • i agree, they should leave it as is, but theyve confirmed that a sequel is in the works. i just hope it doesnt do what so many other sequels do and ruin the magic of the first one.

  • Worst comes to worst, we pretend the sequel doesn't exist. At best, it'll be just as good and add to the story.

  • The greater you do, the less sequel making you should do. Onl6y thing I have ever loved that made an even more amazing sequel was space channel 5, but they quickly realized that they pushed their luck and got lucky in doing so well and didn't make a third game. Doctor Horrible, Space Channel 5, Rocky Horror Picture Show, all unique concepts that live on in my most fondest of memories, right next to my first cookie, and right before I learned I could make cookies easily at home XD

  • They can do it correctly. they just have to not make classic cliche's.

they CANT bring back penny. That'd be the worst decision.

  • I think it would work as an early evening Series, in the end it would come off to the audience (Since most people label things before watching it properly) as some dumb power rangers thing, so they would have to first market the show as a "Live Action Hero Spoof" to hook viewers, after they hooked viewers, they then could safely relabel themselves.. and yes... penny has got to stay dead. Besides, she has to wow us with "The Guild" (Pun intended, and also horrible)

  • i dont think they're making it into a SERIES... but they announced a sequel.

  • Whedon has said that Penny is still dead for the sequel.

  • It's not really a brining back, but more like an alteration. I do agree though, i love this original tale. I don't want them to ruin it either.

  • this and a brand new day are my favorites, i like brandnew day cuz it really shows some evil in him

  • Another victim of the Penny Theory.

  • penny + billy = <3

  • This and on the rise are my fave songs. The entire thing is great though XD

  • I love this song Its my fave really sad, but I still love it.

  • Inane, shallow comment! 2:06 through the end is freaking awesome!

  • also, Joss Whedon is an excellent writer (He wrote this musical)

  • And Firefly...

    And Dollhouse...

And Buffy (although i don't like buffy that much)

    Proving, Joss Whedon > God

  • hrm...I heard that Dr. Horrible is a ripoff of Dr. Steel....this song proves a bit otherwise, though the whole "Evil Scientist, who also sings" is originally Dr. Steel's bit. Also, I think Dr. Steel has the whole "Evil Scientist" thing down a lot better...though, to a much less humorous extent...oh well, just my opinion.

  • the humor is what makes this unique.

I have never heard of Dr. Steel, is it online?

  • yeah, he's a musician based in California. He's ridiculously underground...might be because he has no recording company backing him up (sort of suits his stage persona). Also, he's an excessively good actor; he claims he's crazy, and that he's gonna take over the world, but his speeches are so extensive, and filled with "facts" (the way he says it though, makes it sound all true), that a part of you wonders whether its all just an act... You can see some of his speeches on youtube

  • also, just so you don't get disappointed, Dr. Steel's humor is umm...not bad (not as good as Dr. Horrible's)....but different...He seems to focused on his character to make himself funny

  • Aww. Next time I have iTunes credit, I wanna buy this series. I love it.

  • omg the best musical ever!

  • Argh, the reason he lost Penny is because he hesitated killing someone. That is a catch 22. D: His good side interrupted his bad side, causing his good side to die with Penny, and his bad side to get everything it wanted.

    Aaah.

    Aaaaaaaaaah.

  • yes, I am also dissatisfied with this ending....good thing there'll be a sequel

  • Theres gonna be a sequal? thats gonna be cool i thought it had a sad ending

  • There isn't going to be a sequel. This is a tragedy. It's supposed to be.

    besides I LOVED this ending

  • Joss announced a sequel at Comic Con last year.

  • Really?? That's awesome and confusing at the same time1

  • wait relly omg YES YES YES YES *Jumping around like a crazy maniak* YES THANK YOU PUMPKINKING13X

  • pumpkinking13x is correct there will be a sequel probably released in 2010

  • is neil patric harris gonna be in it? he better

  • It wouldnt be doctor horrible without Neil.

I would appreciate if the Evil league of evil application/interview winners made appearances as well.

  • its classic Joss Whedon I liked it too!

  • the song "on the rise" isn't on this playlist...:S

  • in my opinion it was a win/lose for Dr.Horrible//Billy when Penny died. on one hand there was nothing stopping him for going for the league (you got to admit that the main reason he kept messing up was because he kept thinking of Penny) but on the other hand, he was sad because he lost the girl of his dreams... ='(

  • i love this ending song, its so awesome

  • well what you expect he chose power over happiness in that moment before the van heist he chose to pursue power over happiness. it's interesting how one decision affect how things played out but if he didnt pursue power I will point out there would be no story.

  • I have a PHd in horribleness

  • Am I the only one who laughed when near the beginning of this clip it shows the Cowboy Chorus and girly voices sing in the back ground? I hope not.

  • i was so sad when penny died. ='[

    still....dr horrible RULES!!!

  • I love how he says "Now Dr. Horrible is here." So much raw emotion.

  • i know, right. that part, yet short, was pretty raw

  • In my mind, that is the best part of the song

  • You see, I think Billy is like pie. The top layer is the guy who falls in love with Penny, Dr. Horrible is the filling, but when Penny is dead, there's teh deeper level, the crust, that's just the same as the top. It's a dead giveaway at the end. His last few words: And I won't feel... a thing.

  • thats why the metaphor is in there.

  • he wanted to be truly evil and un caring. it was his goal to be that villian but he never managed to pull it off because he wasnt evil thats why we all managed to care for him. it was the loss of penny that oushed him over the edge into being truly evil

  • Evil is a word that is confused because of people like Hitler who were mass murderers. Dr. Horrible WAS evil, the best kind of evil, because he wasn't concerned with petty things like death and destruction, but changing the world. People get the rap for being evil because they know that death and destruction are going to happen, but feel it's an acceptable loss for the end gain. He was "evil", but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have emotions or about people. It's because he cares he's evil.

  • oh noes penny!

  • This pretty much follows the plan of a Greek tragedy, doesn't it. Destroying what you love in the attempt to get what you want, or thought you wanted.

  • Comment removed

  • he got what he was striving to get but now he "does not feel a thing" because he got at at a price, penny's death

  • i wan't to cry every time i here this :(

  • Me too ;(

  • Why does the background music say "Everything You Ever?"

  • because Dr Horrible, in the end, gets Everything he Ever... wanted :D

  • No, he didn't really, he didn't get Penny, her last words were about Captin Hammer saving her, she didn't even say goodbye to Billy. Then he kinda just became an empty shell feeling no emotions.

  • yes, an empty shell in the league of evil who is feared and is on the fast track to world domination. that's the stuff he wanted.

  • He would probably given up everything for Penny. He did not get everything he wanted.

SerenityRox99: He is not an empty shell feeling no emotions. He says that, but if you see the last bit of the third act, you can see that he does feel something.

  • in he beginning of the feature, he was blogging as he who really wanted to be, dr horrible, a man who will take over the world

as he went on, he grew more attached to penny, and wasn't sure what he wanted wanted anymore

when she died, he realized what she really wanted

you'll notice at the end if this song, during "a thing", it shows normal billy standing on the blog set

i think that symbolizes that he no longer wants to be dr horrible

but what do i know, i'm some kid on youtube, right?

  • I see Penny as being his last hope in humanity, and when he dies, he turns cold inside, and becomes the super villain he couldn't while in love with her.

  • "she" sorry.

  • exactly what i thought

  • Listen to the song before it, Slipping. The line, "Then I will get everything I ever..." comes up in it.

  • Thank god, Nobody else seemd to be bringing that up

  • you are a hag

  • 12 down?

  • Though i dont know Sanzu101, i imagine they don't have the power of precognition. The video was posted before the song titles were known.

  • anyone else catch the symbolism in the movie at this part? throughout the entire film he blogs in his costume, but in his final blog (very last scene) he dresses as a normal man.

  • I get the sybolism I just can't seem to put it in words.

  • yea same lol. hoping somebody may know how to put it. I mean i know what it is supposed to mean, just not it's classification.

  • Maybe it means, he tries so hard to be the evil guy and when he finally achieves it, he doesn't care because Penny's gone.

  • I always thought those last two seconds were a symbol of him having made up the whole thing. His daydream about Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer and Penny reflected his real life, but it wasn't real. He was in love with Penny (which was probably even the girl's name in real life), but she was with another guy and in the end he couldn't have her, even if the rest of his dreams (probably something to do with changing the world) had come true.

  • you are thinking way too much into this.

  • I actually thought the same thing

  • He finally achieved what he wanted to, but it was meaningless because the reason he did it, Penny, was now gone.

Personally, I teared up a bit for him at this point =P

  • When he's in public, dressed in the Dr. Evil suit, he can put on the Dr. Evil persona and act as cruel, cool, and heartless as he's supposed to be. But when he goes home and takes off the persona (the suit), he's just... dead inside, hollowed out with all the grief and guilt he's not allowed to feel as Dr. Evil.
