I really respect Zappa's guitar playing. While he didn't play it "like a machine-gun" his playing was always down and made sense within the compositional criteria he had selected. When he was playing he was playing, and when he wasn't, he definitely wasn't; a great oath of responsibility reflecting a complex, self disciplined and positively assertive talent. And he has something to rap about too
What a killer line up! Holy sh*t. It's got everyone I love. I am sad to admit I'm not familiar with the drummer, I must not be as big of a Zappa head as I thought. Still, golden era Zappa, for me. Anything with George Duke and Ruth. Ian too, wow! If had a time machine...
Whenever I introduce people to franks music this is the first video I pull up and people get hooked. This song and video epitomizes everything frank and his music was about. And it's easy to digest for people who have never experienced zappas greatness.
don't mind the fool who dislikes this, I am of an opinion that there is one guy who makes sure every video on here from the greats has a dislike just to be that guy.
Frank Zappa, one of the 20th century's most underrated and misunderstood musical genius's. Thanks for the legacy of archived videos and audio files that you left behind for us to enjoy. RIP Frank, your music and sense of humor are truly missed.
He didn't compromise, he hired the best musicians he could find, demanded high performance standards, did his own thing and became an icon without selling his soul. It's rare, but it can be done.
@harrykork It really boggles the mind! Why search this video out, only to click "dislike"? Yes it is Jean Luc Ponty, check the Wikipedia entry on FZ for personnel under Top 10 Albums 73-75. George Duke piano, Ruth Underwood percussion Ian Underwood reeds, Sal Maquez trumpet vocals, Napoleon Murphy Brock sax, flute, Bruce Fowler trombone, Tom Fowler bass Chester Thompson or Ralph Humphrey on drums.

And when you come to Seattle, please bring Jean Luc Ponty out for a ZPZ RDNZL encore.

My first concert ever was Zappa in Cleveland in 1980 with Jeff Graham. FZ rules, and I agree with an earlier poster: "dear zappa family trust, can i please have the suit frank was wearing in this video??? PLEASE!!" Also, saw Dweezil in Boston 2 years ago - smoking!
what an awesome fuckin band, ansley dunbar on drums, jean luc ponty on the fiddle... etc... FZ on the SG (ala angus and tony iommi....) rock on frank....
you can see the band laughing at Frank in this, and the violinist gets very impatient seemingly trying to coax the band back into the Montana motif while he solos for ages.
I'm surprised at the ratio of likes to dislikes. Admittedly, Zappa's music is not embraced by motherlodes of rock fans. I love the album. No crowd shots?
Met someone from Montana today. Couldn't resist: asked her if she raised dental floss there. She hadn't heard of this. Glad I could bring her into the fold.
