Trade with other nations is not the issue defaulting all business and trade away from any local expression is killing free markets. When huge corporations control all food production and transportation, all energy production and transportation, all electronics, all utilities,all communications,

all credit and mortgages, you get huge centralized decision makers with no connection to people.  Free Market economies should be at least 70% local, corporations are death of free markets.

It depends on the nature of the corporation. When Rockefeller built up standard oil he did so in the face of government regulation, eventually to the point that absurd anti-trust legislation broke up the company. On the other hand some corporations - european farmers, nationalised banks etc - persist by getting gov't to subsidise their production or regulate their competition. In a free market corporations will arise, but they will only survive by producing more efficiently than anyone else.

Hate to break it to you but there is a growing backlash here in the US against free trade because it is not free. As we watch China, India and Mexico taking all our manufacturing jobs and leaving many Americans with with low paying employment, the anger is mounting. Countries try their best to limit our exports while dumping as much product on our shores as they can. I long for my country to return to its isolationist and protectionist past. Bring ALL our troops home and leave the world stage.

Anyway, as an EU guy, I'm pretty sure his views on free trade are much fairer and less corporatized. He's not an economist, that's for sure, at least not that I know of. The US and EU's ideas of what free trade should be are probably VERY different, and the EU's mainly done free trade throughout Europe where Western and Central Europe are pretty strong economically already. Outsourcing isn't as big an issue.
